I would be open to work with the players but my instinct is to just go with Boot Hill 2e. It is normally $5 on DrivethruRPG for the PDF (on sale this weekend for $3.34) and I own a copy of the box from back in the day. I much prefer it to 3e but once we identify who all is playing I'd be open to suggestions on the system.Isungr wrote:I'm interested in playing in a western game. New to pbp, however. What game?

Well, thanks for the warm welcome. I believe you did mention that in your email.

Cool Isungr, we'll see if anyone else wants to step up to GM, if not I'll start soliciting players in a couple weeks and will reach out to you at that time!

Just so you know, I plan on running a brown hat. Makes me flexible enough for whichever direction the party (posse? gang?) takes.

I might be interested in oiling my six-guns, also, Jason. I'll try to read some of the Boot Hill rules to prepare myself... back in middle school, we had a homebrew "Western" where everything was resolved with a d12. I remember we played a lot of it during field trips to museums. Boot Hill, by contrast, looks super crunchy on the combat! I guess that's what it's all about!

If you decide to run a Western game, I'd like to join. I'm a complete system-agnostic, so pick what you're comfortable with.

Wow, lots of interest! OK, when my schedule slows down later this month I'll research what running a game here entails and put up a sign up thread.
Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
I've been thinking about this for some time and I am interested in running a 5e game. I realize this site is primarily OSR so I would be running the campaign setting Ghosts of Saltmarsh. I have some material from the DMs Guild which I would throw into the mix as well. Is there any interest?

Sure. How many players are you looking for?ybn1197 wrote:I've been thinking about this for some time and I am interested in running a 5e game. I'm always interested in a 5e game.
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

I'm looking for 4-6 players. The game won't start till after the New Year as I will be gone on vacation starting the 21st and returning Jan 4th.Faanku wrote:Sure. How many players are you looking for?

While I can't play, I'll definitely be lurking whatever you all come up with.jason.connerley wrote:Wow, lots of interest! OK, when my schedule slows down later this month I'll research what running a game here entails and put up a sign up thread.
While it's more "Weird" West than Western, I've always wanted to see Usherwood's OSRIC Supplement, Revolvers & Wizardry, in action. It looks fun.

There's a sample file here: PDF LINK
And the cover looks pretty neat:

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

There's a couple games in archive, and some in the Completed Games section. There is definitely an audience for 5E here.ybn1197 wrote:I'm looking for 4-6 players. Good luck ybn1197!

I have that Usherwood supplement and definitely recommend it if you are looking for a more "weird wild" system that nearly everyone is familiar with. If you do go with a "weird wild" system of any sort, count me in.rredmond wrote:While I can't play, I'll definitely be lurking whatever you all come up with.jason.connerley wrote:Wow, lots of interest! I'd be in for either 5e or a western. The Boot Hill game we had on here a while ago (it was Boot Hill, right?) was lots of fun while it lasted.
And 5e is really growing on me.

I helped edit it for Jim Kramer, but I don't know if I got a copy.ybn1197 wrote:I have that Usherwood supplement and definitely recommend it if you are looking for a more "weird wild" system that nearly everyone is familiar with. If you do go with a "weird wild" system of any sort, count me in.

But I don't know how good I'd be running it... maybe, we'll see.

I would be interested in a Western game as well!

So instead of me gearing up to run a western I need to be talking you into running this!rredmond wrote:I helped edit it for Jim Kramer, but I don't know if I got a copy.ybn1197 wrote:I have that Usherwood supplement and definitely recommend it if you are looking for a more "weird wild" system that nearly everyone is familiar with. BTW I helped proofread a module for Jim and he is good people, I hated hearing about his situation.
