Rast nods at Tarrin's explanation. "Well, the offer stands should you need it in the future. Now, ah, yes! Here are some old things I've had lying around for awhile - might come in handy for you on your journey."
And he takes the following items out of the old chest:

> A large yellow-striped dart with black fletching - "When you hurl this, it will multiply in the air and buzz like bees!"

> A fragile band made of dark green forest ivy - "Wear this and you can have some control over plants and speak to them!"

> A large sack made of heavy brown cloth; inside are several large, pebble-like objects - "Ever heard the story of Jake and the Attack of the Bean Sprouts? Well, this bag contains magical beans. If you plant and water them, something amazing happens. What exactly is up to the bean. Just don't dump 'em out on the ground! Take them out gently by hand, one at a time."

> A trio of arrows - two with orange fletching and one with fletching from an eagle - "The two orange arrows will outline your target (assuming you hit them) with an orange faerie fire, making it easier to see them in the dark and giving you a better chance to hit them. The eagle feathered arrow produces a high-pitched scream mid-flight that can cause enemies to lose confidence and flee."

> A trio of small pouches of powder (kinda like a pixie stick - remember those?) - "These are three different kinds of powders, each with a single use:
Gardenia - "Sprinkle it or blow it onto your target and unless they are strong-willed their muscles will lock up and they will be unable to move at all for several minutes."
Wintergreen - "When inhaled, it cures minor damage (1d6) and makes you much more resistant to disease for a full day."
Carnation - "When inhaled, it cures all non-magical diseases and for a full day, you will be immune to all non-magical and magical diseases...including lycanthropy! I wish I had more, but this is my last pouch. Use it wisely."

> A small clay jar with a cork stopper - "The salve in this jar can do just about anything - cure wounds, treat snakebites, maybe even cure some diseases. But use it sparingly - it is all I have."

> A thick-banded ring of iron with a ram's head on top - "Using this ring will allow you to break down doors and possibly break the bones of your opponents. It's a nifty item!
Rast sits back and looks at all of the items and then looks up at you with a smile. "See anything you can use?"

Apologies for the late post, fellers - been a long day. Talk to me.
Winter is coming...

Greystone's eyes glint at the sight of so many magical items. "You are being most helpful, Master Rast. You mind if I ask why?"

As he is asking, he gently picks up the fragile band of green ivy and slips it onto his wrist. He quietly murmurs to himself, "I've always wanted to have a better understanding of some of the plants I come across in the forest..."

He ponders the usefulness of the other items as everyone else takes their first selection.

"Nevertheless, I apologize, and I thank you for your offer, Tarrin said.

His eyes lit up at the bag and he lifted it gently. "Ah, a bag of beans! I might be able to turn this to greater use than most. Thank you."

Darkstar looks at the items with wonder.

These are precious gifts. Aside from our thanks how can we repay you for your generosity, friend Rast?

He moves forward to examine the arrows and the jar of ointment further.

Nokrugh approaches the box after everyone else has selected their trinkets and grabbing both the darts and a vial of gardenia looks untrustingly towards Rast and with great wariness says, "Thank you."

"Because I want to help...and these things," he gestures with a hairy paw, "are only collecting dust. I've been waiting for a good time and a good cause for their use. Seems the Oak Father has sent you to me for just such a one."

The old hermit alaghi stands and looks out the window, smiles and says, "Looks like the storm is abating, and here comes the ranger with old King Gundar! Ha! He looks like a drowned squirrel!"

Outside the cabin, King Gundar and the other barbarians refuse to go in, but the king shouts, "If yer done with yer tea party with the mad hermit, we have wolves to hunt!"

Darkstar waits to see if any of the other offered items are picked up. If not he will take them all to distribute later. "Only a fool would leave gifts such as these behind" he thinks to himself.

Ah, I'd forgotten Cole wasn't in the cabin. We could grab the ring and the other two powders (think that is all that is left...) before we leave. I'm sure Cole could put the ring to good use. In order to keep healing items distributed, he could take the two powders, too, if he wants. If not, Greystone could take them.

Cole waits outside with the barbarians,
makes sure to understand how to use whatever is left of the gifts

he waits for the group to start moving to approach the hermit, with a nod he slaps him on the shoulder

We'll make good use of these gifts and deliver justice to the deserving

without having much more to say to the hermit he tips his hat and moves out with the rest of the group

Anything else for Rast before you move out? Once I get majority vote, we'll move forward.

Darkstar bows to Rast and says You have my thanks friend Rast. May the Lady of the Forest bless you for your aid in our cause. If you should even need aid I will come to help you.

Greystone thinks for a minute before saying goodbye. Finally, he says,"Thank you for your hospitality and the gift. Do you have any advice on our next course of action? the best path for our intended destination? Also... You mentioned something about being able to relay messages? If you could get a message to my elders, to let them know I've made it this far, I would appreciate it."

He nods, steps away, then waits for the rest of the party to gather.

Nokrugh packs up his belongings and with a slight nod to Rast, leaves the hermits cabin.

"Aye, our thanks. We'll put these to good use against the werewolves." Tarrin paused to see if the hermit had anything else to say about their current path, then headed back out into the forest with the others.

"I will gladly send a message to the Elders of the Lynx clan. Tell me, Greystone, which Elder is now the Speaker? Winter? Summer?"

Then he says, "Your best course is to follow the southern trail, always bearing to the right It appears to be leading away from the tors, but it is the true path that will lead you directly to the territory of the pack. Any other trail will lead you astray and you may become lost in the Lurkwood...not something you want to do. Look for the blood grove - it is a stand of old cedars - you will likely smell them before you reach them. This will be a sign that you are on the doorstep of the pack's territory. Use the gifts wisely and may the Oak Father bless you all."

"Ah, the Lady - I should love to gaze upon her one time in my life before I die. I hear she is the most beautiful creature in the forest. Should I need you, Darkstar, I will call you through the green."

Anything else, fellers? I'm ready to move waaay ahead. In fact, the next group post will put you on "the doorstep."

Greystone smiles and replies, "Winter is but a child, born anew this very month. Thank you again for your hospitality," he adds, touching the ivy bracelet, before turning and joining the rest of the party.

Nokrugh is outside the cabin already, relaying what they were told by Rast to the King.
