Expedition: Golgarth/Bogling Ruins - October 12th 2021
Re: Expedition: Golgarth/Bogling Ruins - October 12th 2021
(OOC: DM, can we have a map of this with our position?)
Re: Expedition: Golgarth/Bogling Ruins - October 12th 2021
Dawg Dann
Sees the tall and short figures exit the ruin from the door frame. Did the branch snap under his feet? Most likely, he is not known for being dextrous.
Rather than hiding in the grass he tries a distraction technique. Well away from others to focus the humanoid attention on him. He steps out the reed beds and into view, "Hail friends. I come hunting croc and beaver skins. How ya doing, nice to meet the neighbours. "

Tollander remains in cover, waiting to see how the situation plays out. He clenches his fists inside the Blessed Knuckles of Holy Fury.

Golgarth
Sees the humanoids move out the doorway and step towards the barge. Sword drawn he leaves the window frame, hand gesturing others to follow and sneaks around the last wall of the house to come behind the figures.
If we can get surprise it is to our advantage..with that in mind he signals he will take on the large figure and Sten or Tollander can take care of the other one.
Golgarth longsword [1d20+2] = 2+2 = 4 [1d12+2] = 11+2 = 13

Confused by what would be his first real battle, Griswold follow Golgarth. He believes he can make a diference, attacking with his spear from the second row.
[1d20] = 14 -1 from ST, 13
[1d6-1] = 3-1 = 2

Ruin in the creek.
Dawg Dann emerges from behind a thick clump of reeds and putting on his friendliest face, walks towards the humanoids alerted to the trio's presence by the snapping branch.
The tall and short duo step forward into a clearer light. The larger one clearly has the features of an ogre type, bulky in stature and oddly postured with brutish heavy set brows and large protruding cheekbones. His head must be the size of a pumpkin and his smile reminds you of those 'jack o' lantern' grins cut out on wintry festive nights. "Hey, I know you. Some logger fellow who drifts downstream on logs. Say how is cousin Aagrok. Come inside, sure step this way ... neighbour." He waves an invitation to the ruin with his left hand but behind his back, the ogre clutches a large dagger in clenched webbed claws. The other fellow is considerably smaller though still man sized. He has goblinoid features and a sickly rubbery olive green face. He eyes the creek warily as if scanning for any other intruders.
Backs to the scouting trio and attention diverted, they are almost caught unawares by the attacks from behind. As the ogre nods to the logger to step forward, Golgarth's surprise attack is a wild swing, the powerful hack at the ogre embeds itself into the doorframe. Griswold follows up and stabs 'shorty'. The squeal of pain alerts everyone that an assault is upon them.
Inside the ruin room, the two others reach to grab weapons and rush outside, not sure who or what surrounds them. The anticipated advantage has not materialised.
Galmit and Sten can rush to melee covering the distance to the ruin easily or attack from range. Tollander remains behind the rear wall, peeking around the corner to view the encounter.
three of you are in direct melee. Everyone please roll attacks and post actions and Golgarth to roll initiative. Thanks.

Sten Danilmaga
Sten races from his hiding position, light flail raises as he closes the distance to the large brutish figure and swings the flail as hard as he can.
To hit [1d20] = 17
Flail damage [1d6] = 3

Galmit charges into the melee wielding his new axe towards the nearest ogre/foe.
Dwarven battleaxe +1 [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20 to hit, [1d8+2] = 3+2 = 5 dmg

Dawg Dann
Not familiar with the ogre or his tone, the encounter obviously changes as the duo attack from behind. Grasping his peavey spear he will charge the distance to the ruin and attempt to run through the aquatic ogre, presuming the webbed features indicate one of that variety.
Dawg Dann peavey (polearm) [1d20] = 18 [1d10] = 5

Griswold is very scared right now. In his mind, the knight would do a great cut to the ogre, and old Gris would do the final blow. Now he can only think about the ogre smell and wait for the upcoming attack

With battle joined, Tollander tries to rush to the rear of the closest ogre and deal a punishing blow to it's kidneys. However, in his eagerness he slips and slides on the moss and weeds beneath his feet and comes nowhere near to landing the blow.
Blessed Knuckles of Holy Fury (vs Living). To Hit: [1d20] = 3 (THACO:16) Damage: [1d4+3] = 4+3 = 7

Golgarth
Dismayed he missed a good opportunity to deal with the duplicitous ogre, he steels himself and attacks the large figure again hoping his strike finds a mark thus time.
Golgarth longsword [1d20+2] = 13+2 = 15 [1d12+2] = 11+2 = 13

Battle in the creek ruins
GM: Initiative for creek party [1d6] = 3
GM: Initiative for creek humanoids [1d6] = 4
Aquatic ogre attack [1d20] = 7 [1d10] = 4
Hobgoblins attack [1d20] = 16 [1d6] = 3 [1d20] = 13 [1d6] = 4 (both good enough vs AC 5. Tollander you have AC 5 now you are 4th level).
Throgrin attack [1d20] = 11 [1d3] = 1 [1d20] = 8 [1d3] = 2
Following the failed surprise attack on the lookout duo, the humanoid group quickly assemble together and attack the raiders outside the ruin of the stone dwelling. The aquatic ogre turns quickly to face the young wannabe knight who tried to hack his head off. The ogre stands a good two or three feet taller than the muscular warrior and almost twice as broad. He raises a huge fist and jabs at Golgarth who ducks under the blow and weaves in a fashion that would make pugilist Tollander applaud. The edged blade of his sword slices an uppercut of his own and spills out guts from a huge wound in the ogre's midriff.
The two hobgoblins emerge from the room clutching spears and both gang up on the cleric boxer, stabbing at him as he attacks and slips. (-7hp Tollander). The rubbery faced greener skinned throgrin tries to claw at Griswold who thrust at him with a spear. His claws are rancid and diseased and carry a noxious venom which affects the nerves. A paralysing toxin which causes any touched victim to jerk before falling prone, as nervous systems react to the venom coursing through their bodies. Griswold does his best to dodge but though his chainmail is strong a lack of dexterity penalises his defence and the troll like humanoid scratches him. -1 hp and save vs paralysis please.
The party reciprocate attacks. Sten bashes his spiked flail upon the ogres pumpkin sized head, It squishes into the cranium with a crack. Galmit follows up with a deadly blow that brings the ogre to his knees as his legs buckle under the onslaught. Dawg Dann completes the ogre slaying by skewering him on his peavey and fending his body into the creek reed beds, the hook tearing the internal organs out of the giant humanoid.
The battle though is still in the balance as one character suffers a major wound and another the possible rigours of a ghoulish poison.
next actions and initiative form Golgarth please.
Edited to reflect Griswold injury

Tollander realizes he's in over his head. But he also knows he'll be cut down if he turns to run. It is the will of Gwanwen. The razor's edge between life and death, and which way we fall matters not".
He swings again at his attackers, but the blood from his wounds only adds to the greasy surface he's standing on.
Blessed Knuckles of Holy Fury (vs Living). To Hit: [1d20] = 2 (THACO:16) Damage: [1d4+3] = 3+3 = 6

Galmit if the ogre is truly dead changes targets and attacks a hobgoblin.

Griswold feels the creeping sensation of death crawling his spine. Gathering his will to survive, he tries another attack to the monster, with little effect
