No bugs. Spam fighting measures. Welcome!
—Ron—
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Hi Darklin2!

Just off the top of my head: there's definitely no Illusionist and /or gnome. I think that's the biggest gap. (There was one, he's missing presumed dead, in the jungle.)

Several fighters
Three rangers (one more and the universe will explode  But we like to live dangerously on BSI :D )
One Paladin
Several clerics, a fighter/cleric, a cleric/MU.
Several MUs, a fighter/MU
Two druids
One thief, one fighter/thief
One monk.

Quite a lot of humans, one dwarf, two half-orcs, two halflings, a half-elf, can't think of any elves right now*(well, there might be one, but the jungle may have got her too.  ;) )

Apologies to anybody I missed! :D

* Actually I can. He's the F/MU. D'oh
Chance of being Suprised: 33%

Our mods do a fantastic job keeping those who would do evil here at bay. I think they might be paladins in real life or something. :D

Happily, there are no bugs here either, though I cant say the same for the jungle you are about to enter.

Jernau summed up the character register pretty well for you, but please don't feel like you need to fill any voids. I have lost count on how many active characters there are in the game, but there are no real needs that I can think of off the top of my head.

Besides, I think you should play what you like, regardless if we already have enough Clerics or Rangers or whatever. I find that the great players in this game invest more into the characters by playing whichever class/race they enjoy the most. You should do that too.

The game will be 3 years old in January and it has only gained speed since it started. Unlike a lot of other games that come and go, this one isn't going away any time soon. Characters range from 1st to 4th level so far, with plenty more room for advancement.

The best thing.......most of the dirty work of exploration and clearing out dangerous areas in order to get at the good stuff underneath has already been accomplished. In fact, the players don't know this yet, but one group is just about to find something very significant that pertains to the inner workings of the island. Very exciting (and deadly) things await just around the corner for everyone involved in the game.

Any good players are welcome to jump in! The water's always fine on Big Shiny Island.

I suppose I should mention that we keep a pretty solid 48 hour posting rate in the game, but I can (and do) post more often if/when necessary. So the missions move along pretty fast for a PbP game.

Solo adventuring is pretty popular and profitable (and also deadly) on the island as well.

Hi! I'm new to PbP, but not new to 1e. If you have room for another warm body on the Island, I'd like to play! :)

You are in luck, Paladin. Big Shiny Island is like a training ground for newer players. We have a long list of really good folks who don’t mind showing a newbie the ropes.

If you can post regularly, every couple of days, by all means, roll up a character you’d like to play and send it to me in a PM.

Most of your char-gen questions will be answered here:

Great! You really should join us.

We have some PC's returning to town right now, so your timing is perfect.

As long as you can make a post every couple of days, just send me a character sheet in a PM and we will get you rolling as soon as you are ready.

This link should help you, but if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.

Bumping this up for our newest members, in case there is interest.

Jump on in! The water is fine!

New players and characters are just getting “on board” right now, so this is a perfect time to start out.

(actually, the water is not safe.....don’t go near any water)

That seemed sorta telegraphed.

Good to hear, Holy!

If you don’t think you will have a problem with the minimum 48 hour posting rate, just send me a character sheet in a PM and we will get you rolling as soon as you are ready. Snoop around in the game threads if you like to see what we have to offer.

This link should help the most, but if you have any questions, just ask.

No, no, it was totally impromptu as an action. *cough cough, sheepish grin*

 Sounds like you’ll fit right in. :D

I don’t expect new players to read through 15,000 posts to understand everything, so I will summarize a bit here.

Most of the game happens on a newly discovered island in the Azure Sea in the world of Greyhawk, an island that mysteriously appeared one day. (we are still trying to figure out the “why” on that one, but it’s coming)

A small town is in development there, on a beautiful stretch of sandy beach. Beautiful, if you like hot, humid weather, dangerous monsters, mean dwarves, bloodthirsty pirates, and more bugs than you can possibly imagine. (still trying to figure that one out too) The characters have been involving themselves in the town processes as much, or as little, as their players like, but some have already sowed permanent roots, so it can’t be all that bad there. (It’s pretty bad) Jungle exploration has been the mainstay for the groups so far as they slowly piece together the many mysteries of this strange place.

We currently have 4 separate groups out adventuring right now, all getting themselves into varying degrees of trouble. Smaller groups or even solo adventures are possible, and though highly profitable, have proven a bit dangerous in the past. This is a true sandbox style game, so there is really no right or wrong way to go about things.

The groups are flexible and almost always fluctuate by at least a member or two, allowing everyone to play with whomever they like. I think we have some of the very best players on this site involved in this game, so the opportunity to fall into a really involved and fun group right away exists around every palm tree.

Well, well, all that sounds very interesting. I did some reading and I liked what I saw. :)

I have finished my character sheet, settled on a Hill Dwarf Fighter/Thief. Linking the character sheet here for your approval! I must mention that it's been AGES since I played 1e, so I hope no mistakes crept in. Also, for any mistakes in English that I will certainly make, I must apologise in advance but I am not a native speaker.

Sheet looks great at first glance. I will request a private forum for you and add you to the game.

In the meantime, this is the thread you will be starting out in, so go ahead and familiarize yourself with it, if you'd like.
