Seeing Goshawk go down is unnerving to the brave. Somehow, Gardo still manages to attack the creature and this steels her resolve. She rushes back in to attack with her spear on the unnatural creature, hoping to not be overcome by the buzzing sound.

It's hard to explain puns to kleptomaniacs because they always take things literally.

Re: IC
Round Six
The adventurers don't fare much better as the fight progresses. Gardo manages to shake off the fugue, but is unable to damage the creature. Only Newton, newly awakened, is able to inflict any damage with a cunningly placed arrow. Ribar and Wulfka remain confused, but luckily they just stand there, unable to act. Telemachus tosses a torch but it flies wild and doesn't ignite the oil.
The creature, having lost the element of surprise and unable to gain a definitive upper hand, turns and begins to fly away, back down the alley from whence it emerged. It moves slowly, like a bloated horsefly, and soon those affected by the drone are able to resist its effects. From down the street, behind the adventurers, a commotion can be heard.

Feargus
Feargus remains on the ground, not fully asleep and yet not awake either. Pain is beginning to blossom in his head.

Re: IC
Aldus, not knowing what else to do, fires another arrow.
Wulfka tries to run ahead in the direction the monster is flying (although trying to not re-enter its droning range), and sounds the alarm. "A monster! A blood-sucking monster is headed this way! Clear out! Its buzz is maddening! It has defeated mighty heroes!"

Re: IC
Round Seven
The creature is around the corner of the alley before anyone can act. By the time the adventurers can act, and Telemachus lights a torch, the alley is apparently empty. It's short, about forty feet long and ten feet wide and dead-ends against the blank wall of a stone building. The buildings hemming it in on three sides are tall, at least thirty or forty feet, making it seem as though they lean in, constricting the space. It's hard to tell by torchlight, but there's a jumble of steep rooflines and peaks and valleys of the buildings. The ground of the alley itself is pretty dirty and grimy; there are windows that occasionally break the building facades, and it is likely the residents just toss their waste out into the alley. On both the right and left side the adventurers see what look to be basement access doors, laid almost parallel with the ground and covered with hinged doors. One, the one on the right, is open.
Outside on the main street Ribar runs over to Feargus and shakes him awake. The warrior seems fine, if badly wounded. Ribar tries to tend to the him without magic, but the wound in his chest is suppurating and nasty and he is unsuccesful. By the time he's been able to look Feargus over a trio of armed guards, in chain, with crossbows in hand, run up. "Ho there! Put down your weapons and declare your names or face arrest!"

Feargus
Feargus groggily makes it to his feet. "What...happened? I have whopper of a headache." He looks down at his chest. "WHAT HAPPENED!" He then scrambles over to the still form in the alley. "Goshawk! Oh no..."

Re: IC
Aldus, not in the alley, fades back into the shadows and looks for a good place to climb onto the rooftops and see what there is to be seen.
Re: IC
Gardo
He tenses, trying to resist the call of rushing after the foul creature and possibly getting a bolt in the back. Angrily he replies to the guards. "I am Gardo, of the Company of the Scarlet Warriors, newly arrived in town. And you are preventing us from capturing that foul beast that has been killing your people! You can see the damage it did to our comrade. Let us after it or this creature may continue to plague your people with death!!"

The basement is dark, filled with shadows, but Newton could swear he hears something. Not the drone of blasphemous, insectile wings, but a low mewling, like the noise an injured kitten might make.shaidar wrote:Newton points out the open door to Telemachus. He gestures for silence as he listens for the beast.

There's but a moment's pause as the guards, one of them also bearing a torch, look over the scene: the light dusting of snow melted from the deadly dance of combat, the bare cobblestones stained with spilled blood, Goshawk's still form on the road, and Feargus, leaning against Ribar. "Shit, brother!" he exclaims, "lead on! No one will be able to say Tonbet Ma let the Nightstalker get away!"
Re: IC
Gardo
The affirmation is all Gardo needs. He pivots and starts down the alley. Seeing Telemachus move towards Newton with the torch to look in the basement access door, he pauses. Turning he puts finger to lips to call for silence. He hisses, "You, with the torch, move quietly to help. Others, eyes up for anything up high anywhere in this alley." He grips his sword and moves gently towards his comrades to support them.

Re: IC
Round Eight
Aldus is unable to find a way up to the roof-line; the walls are sheer, of tightly laid stone, and slippery with water. He is pretty sure he is unobserved by the guard, though.
Thrusting the torch forward, the adventurers who approached down the alley peer down the steps. Or rather, the ramshackle ladder that leads into the cellar. The ceilings are low, the floor stone, and it's filthy. Nothing is immediately visible from where they stand, as their view is limited . . . although Newton is pretty sure he catches a glimpse of what looks to be a boot, at the outside of his vision.
The guards come puffing up, following Gardo. "What is it?" the guard who referred to himself as Tonbet Ma says, trying to peer around Newton and Telemachus, "the boys and I wager it's a vampire. They're known to suck blood from their victims."
