Hal stays pressed against the door's wall.
He plans to take the shotgun "Stick 'em up!"

A pause for rules mechanic note, should it influence your actions. Hal's low Dex. makes it unlikely he'll get initiative. You are poised with a gun, but so is Joe Bob with the shotgun. Surprise is possible but very unlikely, as Joe Bob is expecting you to be hiding in there if he decides to venture in.

Thanks
Fearing no expecting to be too slow, Hal shouts "Drop the gun or you're takin' two to the head!"

Hal and Joe Bob tensely face off.

Seconds seems like minutes.

Joe Bob takes a step forward, aiming the shotgun at the thin wall of the trailer behind which Hal stands.

A car barrels into Joe Bob from the side. His broken body flies forward.

“Get in!” Sipowicz yells.

Sipowicz peels away. Freaks scatter.

“I couldn’t leave a soldier behind,” says Sipowicz.

Gun shots fire. The back window shatters.

The car bumps and heaves over the ground until it reaches the dirt road. Soon they reach the main road and are traveling north to Aiken.

Hal's head is drooped and his jaw slack, his bottom lip is wet from saliva "What the fuck just happened?" he says to himself. A moment later "Thanks, Sipowicz. I thought I was done for" He jerks his head up "That Pharaoh chap, he murdered Sam, I'm sure of it. He had to pay for what he done, that's why I did what I did: bullet to the skull. But he wasn't dead I reckon. Shit!"

“You’re a loose cannon Hal,” says Sipowicz, shaking his head. “I don’t know if that would have turned sideways if you didn’t put the gun to his head. It wasn’t looking like he was forthcoming though.”

Sipowicz looks in the rearview mirror. “We have company.”

A jalopy is accelerating behind Sipowicz, trying to catch up.

Sipowicz grimaces and nods his head no. He reaches in the glove compartment and takes out a .38 pistol.

"Have at it."

Hal checks its chambers, to count the bullets. "Got any more bullets and for the .22 as well?" He swivels round "Are they gaining on us?"

A shot rings out from the chasing jalopy. Sipowicz’ back window shatters. Glass flies foward, cutting Hal and Sipowicz in the back of the head.

“Gaining, slowly,” answers Sipowicz.

Hal finds six more .22 shells in the glove compartment.

Sipowicz rounds a bend and screeches the car to a stop. The men get out, guns ready.

The jalopy appears on the road. The investigators have the jump on the carnies.

Guns bark. Sipowicz' .38 pierces the front windshield and hits the passenger.

Hal fires his .38...
You get the surprise round. State action and roll to hit and damage if necessary.

Sipowicz gun shot [1d100] = 35 damage [1d6] = 6

Hal fires his pistol but the shot goes wide as the carnies' jalopy swerves dangerously. It looks like the car is going to strike the investigators!

Hal and Sipowicz dive out of the way.

The car passs, swerves, skids, turns around for another strike.

Actions?
Carnie car strike investigators? [1d100] = 76 A miss.

I feel Hal should have a higher Handgun skill given his soldier background. It could be a case of skill points not being distributed fully, as I noticed on his professional skills a few months ago. Feel free to review your point allocation.

His hand gun % is 30, what can I boost it to?

It doesn't look like the skills were done right so you may want to assigns from scratch.

Int. x 5 = number of skill points that can allocated to non-profession skills including combat.

Edu. x 15 = number of skill points to allocate to profession skills. As an ex-soldier and given your current circumstances, the private eye profession seems the closest profession. You can see what skills go with that (handgun is one).

The 3e (or 2nd or 4th are the same) rules are readily available online for free if you do a search.

I've got the 3e on my bookshelf! so you'd have thought Hal's skills were correct, oh well. Okay, I'll re-allocate those points.

I just thought, Hal may die in the next post, so it seems a wasted effort to redo his skills now, to be frank; if he survives, I'll do it. What can I boost his handgun % to?
