IC
Re: IC
Aldus feels put out that the party has so little faith in his skills that they would save a spell for dealing with locks. He doesn't say anything, because he feels sure that if he did, the fates would inevitably be sure to put an impossible lock in his immediate path.
When the door is opened and the magicians have examined it, he will grab the ten foot pole and make a careful survey of the room, with Wulfka right behind him, word and shield at the ready.

Nothing obstructs Gardo's approach.VonAlric wrote:Gardo
"Seems like something more for the learned folks here. Follow me." Gardo will enter into the room, shield up and sword down in the water, probing before each step and sweeping to see if there are any hidden objects under the water. He will slowly advance towards the stone door but stop at the stairs to it.
Telemachus sees no sign of furniture, just shelf after shelf of sodden, rotting books and scrolls. Here and there he sees one that looks like it may be intact; those on the higher shelves, generally, or perhaps it may be bound in something more durable than leather.sulldawga wrote:Telemachus
"Can we get another Detect Magic spell up and running?"
Telemachus looks to see if there is any furniture, or the remnants of such, in the room.
Aldus approaches the stone door. There is no keyhole, so he casts his gaze about the wall and landing.Pulpatoon wrote:Aldus feels put out that the party has so little faith in his skills that they would save a spell for dealing with locks. Aldus can say two things for sure: one, there is a trigger concealed into a flagstone on the landing that, when depressed, should cause the door to swing open, away from them into whatever is on the other side. Two, the door is not trapped.
Re: IC
Aldus: "Peculiar construction for a door. I suppose it would allow an avid reader cross into the room with an armload of books without having to fumble for a door handle. Let's leave it alone until we have made a thorough examination of this room."
He begins a search of the shelves, looking for any legible text, as well as what might be behind the books. Given the amount of mold they probably contain, he puts on gloves, and tries to handle the books as little as possible.

It's slow going, and somewhat foul, as disturbing the shelves releases clouds of mold into the air. Any hopes that the shelves contain scrolls of puissant spells, or tomes of ancient wisdom, are dashed by the search. Those writings that remain intact are written in a tongue in which Aldus is not familiar, although it uses the alphabet of the Common Tongue of Man. However, the thief is savvy enough to recognize that the surviving scrolls and books are records and ledgers, journals and musings of a personal nature. He judges that they may have some value to historians -- perhaps even to Brassan Cen, who mentioned that he studies the history of the surrounding lands. If this tomb indeed contains the remains of a king or potentate of the boar-folk of old.
Re: IC
Aldus heads out of the dungeon in order to catch a breath of fresh air and clear the dust and mold off himself. He carries out a couple tomes, just as curiosity pieces. "When we come back for the statues, we can clear out the library, too. I think we may be responsible for a blossoming of study in the history of these parts.
"Shall we try the next door? It's not trapped, and stepping on the flagstone should pop it open, as long as the mechanism is still in good shape. Who wants to be first in line?"

"Perhaps I can compose some kind of a song on these works...anyway, forward we go. I can help flank the door as we enter. Goshawk - Get that long polearm ready."

Wulfka is prepared to be among the first to go through the door, adopting a defensive stance.
Aldus hangs back.

The Dungeon of the Door
Five Turns Elapsed
Once Aldus points it out the trigger is readily apparent; a small square of stone maybe a handswidth long and wide, set into the floor at the base of the wall. Goshawk presses it with the butt end of his weapon. There's a grinding noise from somewhere within the earth, and the door swings inward as if on a pivot hinge, revealing a darkened room beyond. There's a blur of movement before anyone can focus on what lies within the room, and in an instant five shapes -- humanoid, but possessing an almost feral, canine mien -- spring forth from within, followed by an absolutely ghastly stench!

Feargus
"Not if I do first, Gardo!" Feargus tests out the weight of the new spear and jabs it one handed at one of the shapes while ducking behind the new shield. Goshawk will follow behind as closely as possible, jabbing his polearm over the shoulders of Gardo and Feargus.

Re: IC
Round One
The warriors had already arrayed themselves in front of the door, so they take the brunt of the attack. A foul miasma enters the room, causing everyone except Casfrea, Feargus, Gardo, and Telemachus to retch and heave; spellcasting is impossible as the affected adventurers' stomachs empty. Gardo slays one, his blade biting deeply into another one on the backstroke. Goshawk is bitten by one, whilst Casfrea is scored on one cheek by an ancient claw. One manages to penetrate the line of fighters and leaps upon Naldo, sending the poor cleric splashing into the water. He screams, and then is silent!
Newton finds he is unable to cast any spells due to his heaving belly; Aldus looses an arrow that misses. Feargus and Goshawk both hit their targets; Wulfka's blade just barely misses another, whistling over its head. Casfrea lets out an incoherent yawp, her eyes glazing over, and she moves with a dexterity and speed that belies her size, but slips in the water, her blow going wild and missing the undead creature attacking her by feet.

"Foul Undead!" Feargus keeps stabbing.
Goshawk lowers his polearm and attempts to trip one of the ghasts.

Gardo
"That's one! Try and keep up, Feargus. Careful Casfrea!, Don't let that thing hit you." Gardo will concentrate on dispatching the creature in front of him then turn his attention to the one that got past him and took out Nald.

It's hard to explain puns to kleptomaniacs because they always take things literally.
