Announcement
Going forward, I am going to request that everyone include an unmodified 1d20 roll with each of your updates. Something like:
Roll, If Needed: [1d20]

This would be in addition to any rolls you would normally include.

If this included roll is needed, it will be used. If not, it will be ignored (the result will not carry over).

There are many times when, while compiling a list of everyone's actions, and factoring in what a monster/NPC would do, a roll would normally be called for. For instance, a Stealth check. I will sometimes:
  • Make a roll myself;
  • Publish the update but request the roll after the fact, then go back and edit to reflect the roll result; or
  • Post the update but stop the action short, then specifically call for a roll(s).

It's not a huge deal if you forget, but it would be really helpful, especially in my current situation where I'm extremely pressed for time, to have these rolls to call upon.

Apologies for my absence, everything is good now.
Hopefully we can get some downtime to introduce ourselves properly when we're not in imminent peril!

Just a quick note, which I'll be adding to all my games, that I'm starting to get into a better groove at work, even with the increased workload.

Hopefully that will mean an uptick in activity.

Yes... but, crap!

I apparently forgot to actually post either update in the private forums and shut down my work computer when I left for the day.

They're probably gone, so I'll have to try and recreate them later tonight.

Crazy work week. I had two major presentations I've been preparing for (on top of all my normal responsibilities) and just finished the first of the two. Which is a relief.

My plan is to try and move all my games today, which, if I'm being realistic, probably won't happen, but we'll see. Expect an update here either later today or tomorrow.

With maintenance about to start at any time (I've already been pushing my luck for 20 minutes), I'm afraid to start a new update and potentially lose it. I will move this one tomorrow, for sure.[/ooc]

Please make sure to include your rolls next time.

Not just the rolls for your attack spell, but I also request an "if needed" roll which should be supplied with each player response.

Maybe it’s lack of sleep but I am very confused on what is going on. Especially the rogue distraction part...

That was me, and I corrected it. Replace "rogue" with "ranger" and it will hopefully make more sense (Ed is playing a rogue in one of my other games; I just confused his characters).

Something else has been bothering me about my last update, and I just now went to track down the official rule and I made another mistake:
dmw71 wrote:An instant later, a human wearing a chain shirt carrying a shield and scimitar bursts out from a door behind Grimbul and forces their way past the dwarf --

Per the 'Moving Around Other Creatures' rule, this should not have been possible.
Moving Around Other Creatures wrote:"You can move through a nonhostile creature's space. In contrast, you can move through a hostile creature's space only if the creature is at least two sizes larger or smaller than you. Remember that another creature's space is difficult terrain for you." (emphasis mine)

So, the Guard could not have gotten through the door and past Grimbul like he did. But, as undoing the situation would actually be detrimental to you guys (the Guard would still be alive since he couldn't have been targeted; or technically could have, but would have had at least half cover).

For some reason (probably because of the 'Halfling Nimbleness' trait) that situation had been bothering me, and I should have looked it up before --

Actually...

Okay, I did find a way to retcon that action without breaking things (and, actually, it will benefit Grimbul).

So, instead of this:
dmw71 wrote:An instant later, a human wearing a chain shirt carrying a shield and scimitar bursts out from a door behind Grimbul and forces their way past the dwarf --

Which immediately followed with an attack (that hit), I will have the Guard shove Grimbul out of the way (rule: Shoving a Creature) which would create the space necessary to get past him. The Guard's attack roll was a 22 (link) would have been enough to succeed on the shove attempt (Ed didn't actually supply an "as needed" roll, so, for narrative reasons, we'll assume the 22 was an automatic success).

So, instead of hitting Grimbul with a scimitar (and doing 3 damage), the guard will have simply pushed Grimbul out of the way (so I'll remove 3 points of damage from Grimbul's status).

Okay, I feel a lot better now. :D

D&D Beyond just announced a new 'Campaign Character Limit Updates' update, and I'm still trying to figure out how I can best take advantage of these changes.
Essentially, it used to be where each game could only have 12 characters in it. Now they've changed the limit from characters to players.

The "problem" that I currently have has to do with the fact that you can only enable content sharing in three campaigns, and I have my four games organized into four individual campaigns:

After taking a quick inventory, it turns out that I only have 13 unique players (19 total characters) across all four games:
Players.jpg
Players.jpg (85.76 KiB) Viewed 1598 times
This is just one over the limit, otherwise I could have thrown everyone into a single group. I'm not even sure how/if that would make things easier? But, it would definitely remove the content sharing issue, and also allow for a lot of room for expansion (e.g. new players).

Interesting.

Even though I do have characters built (or in development) on D&D Beyond, I've only ever used the tool as a DM, not as a player. So, to see how things worked from a player's perspective, I added a couple of my characters into different campaigns I have created. As a player, things are actually organized fairly well:
Characters.jpg
Characters.jpg (34.01 KiB) Viewed 1598 times
I was worried that I would complicate things for you guys if I shuffled things around, but the only real change is on my end.

Okay, this is helpful.

I'm going to spend some time planning out how I want to reorganize everything, but do expect for me to be requesting that you use the 'Leave Campaign' option on your characters and join a new campaign I've created instead (using new invite links which I will create and send out).[/ooc]

Sorry, I assumed that we'd use my unresolved attack that had already been rolled.

Apologies for the lack of update over the weekend. It was a busy one.

I also snagged a good deal on a used Chromebook which I started to familiarize myself with. I found one potential bug with it (I'm having issues scrolling on maps in Roll20; mostly horizontally), and I also need to find a new screen capture tool since SnagIt isn't supported. :(

I'll get it figured out (or just continue to use my old laptop) soonish, and update this game either later today or tomorrow.

Also, after losing one player in one of my games, that brings my total down to twelve, which is the limit allowed in a campaign. I think, for now, I'm just going to try throwing everyone into a single campaign to see how that works.

If I could have everyone leave the current campaign you're in:
Remove.jpg
Remove.jpg (25.31 KiB) Viewed 1240 times
Then, once you're a free agent again, join this one instead: Unseen Servant #1.

This will need to be done for all characters, so those of you in two games will need to do this twice.

Thanks![/ooc]
