Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Could be, wizards are a strange lot for sure. If that annoying midget dragon was with us we could ask him.

Alordan listens to Maag but thinks to himself, "Spider Mazes? Old wizards? Of course there would be on this crazy island..."

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
The Search For The Way Out
Freeday, 12th of Goodmonth
Late Morning, Warm, Humid, Damp
Lerrick gladly extinguishes the torch once she enters the naturally lit entrance cave, leaning it against the wall to use again later if necessary. She is about to exit the cave to go climb a tree when she stops abruptly at the opening. Saracen suggests resting again as he too stops in his tracks before exiting the cave.
Maag suggests to those who were with him in the wooded maze that the wizard mentioned here might be the same one mentioned there. Gramble agrees. He nearly walks into the folks stopped at the exit as he tries to get outside.
Alordan checks over the area just inside and outside the cave entrance. He spots fresh bovine tracks that start near the raised platform and head outside the cave. Looking out over the stone circle, everyone sees the back of a large minotaur leaning over the area where you left the dead body of the last minotaur you defeated to gain access to this cave. The huge bullish brute appears to be feeding on something, chewing and grunting loudly as he swallows chunks of bloody meat. Somehow, it hasn't noticed any of you yet, likely because Crestbrook is still unconscious.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
I am in no shape to face the beast without healing.
Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Saracen draws the group inside quietly. I have a spell that could burn it and possibly blind it for a few rounds, or one that could blind it for an hour and more, and another that would smite it from some 30 feet or so. Then I could try and engage it in battle, or we could shoot it with missiles and damage it before we rush it. If it knows the common tongue I might be able to knock it out for a minute, if someone else is ready to end it once it succumbs to the spell. Alas I can only do one of those and one spiritual hammer.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Maag
"I've got no problem wiv finishin' it off", whispers Maag. "Blind it, confuse it, knock it out, wot ever yer got".
"Is it gonna 'ear yer when yer start castin' yer spell? he asks the cleric. "If it does, maybe you can stand where it can see yer. Den when it charges at yer, we can jump it from behind."
Once the subject turns to dirty tricks, Maag's brain settles into a comfortable, well-worn rut. "'ow about dis: you start yer magic, it charges at yer. Lerrick an' Alordan are crouchin' down either side of der entrance wiv der 10' pole. It runs by, dey trip it wiv der pole, an' der rest of us jump on it when it's on der floor."
Just editing this to ask: does the layout of the cave allow two people to crouch down unseen inside the entrance? Or would they be obviously visible from outside?

Sir Chrestbrook the Mighty
continues to slumber with a smile on his face
Lerrick
The cleric listens to Maag's plan. Although she has serious doubts, she shrugs her shoulders, then whispers...My mother always told me that if you come to a crossroads, take the most challenging path. She smiles. Where is the pole?
Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Saracen thinks on it for a while. Spells are easily disreputable, it would be better if I could cast the spell before the creature attacks. Perhaps we could subdue it and see if it can communicate with us, perhaps it has answers to what’s happening here? he whispers.
I think perhaps The Blistering Beam or a light spell might be worth a try?

Lerrick
The cleric turns to Saracen. What you are suggesting is something that we could attempt at full strength. I understand your reasoning. However, look at us. We are barely alive with the exception of you. We need to kill it quickly or avoid it.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Agreed if you can knock the beats out do it and we can slit it's throat.
Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Saracen winces. If I call out to it there’s no guarantee it will understand me, and if it doesn’t understand me the command will be wasted and we will be back to square one. I am happy to take point against this creature and be its focus, but I think we need to try and disable it somewhat first. Blind it perhaps and shoot at it before it has a chance to close with us. If I knew for sure it understood the common speech of humans or even orcish I would use the command. Would that we had more magic at our disposal, but alas we don’t.

Maag
"Rope." says the half-orc, suddenly. "If we use two lines of rope to trip it, den it 'as to avoid both of dem'. Twice der chance of failin'".
" 'an rope on der floor is less obvious dan a stick".
"Or lasso it. Throw a couple of lines around it an' drag it down".
Maag's eyes light up at the thought of all the different ways of not fighting fair.

Who's got some rope? I'm ready to do my part.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Saracen, once the others are in position, steps to the entrance to watch the Minotaur scoffing his big cowy face and waits for the Creature to turn. As soon as he sees its eyes he calls to Pholtus the blinding light to do just that, chanting a spell of light and targeting the great bullmans eyes.

:And so it begins....

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Maag
Maag quickly passes out his coil of rope. He'll suggest that Lerrick and Alordan hold the first line between them across the entrance and then loop it back for him and Gramble to make a second line. That way, he and Gramble can be the first to attack the minotaur once it hits the ground.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
There should be a net still in front of the cave entrance that alordan put down. Is that still there? We can use that to try and capture it.......? oh boy.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
The net is still laying there, spread out on the ground in front of the cave entrance, but Alordan was attacked before he had time to set up any pull cords or trip wires, etc. It was never mentioned again after that.

The Search For The Way Out
Freeday, 12th of Goodmonth
Noon, Hot, Humid, Damp
The badly injured party knows that they must either take this monster down quickly, or avoid it all together. They choose to fight.
Alordan sees his net on the ground where he left it. Maag starts handing out rope and getting the wounded members of the group into position to trip up the minotaur as it advances.
Saracen starts a spell of light. Once the beast turns towards the noise of the casting priest, the half-orc targets its eyes with his magic.
Taking a few steps towards the cave, but not actually entering it, the spell goes off. The minotaur begins flailing and shifting around, trying to extinguish the bright light in front of its face.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Saracen cheers and picks up his sword and Shield. If you have Missile weapons use them once I have lured it away. he says charging the Minotaur without yelling.
[1d20+3] = 4+3 = 7 : [1d8+4] = 5+4 = 9 : [1d12+4] = 1+4 = 5
Not including +2 for charge and +4 for it being blinded and possibly +2 for attacking behind.
He will run passed the beast and then cry out to try and lure it away from the cave entrance and put as much distance as he can between them.
