This mage has Asmodeus' own luck.
I assume this is some kind of charm or will power save, so am including my wisdom adjustment: Save VS will spell [1d20+3] = 11+3 = 14

Finnigan likewise frantically tries to finish the cobwebs so he can get his axe into the wizard.

Grossphil the Feeble
He ponders the placement of the coins and gems, but decides not to let curiosity get the better of him for now. He refrains from opening the door, in case some other nasty creature is waiting on the other side. However, with no spells aside from Mac's book-- none of which are helpful at the moment -- and no weapons, he'll simply watch the door he's near and hope nothing comes through it. Mac's spell book in hand just in case it's needed.
I've never seen an enemy get as lucky as Zemroy in my D&D career. It's unbelievable.

Burning Down The Next Level
Day 5
Mourning?
The party has held onto an item that could have easily destroyed Zemroy since before Mac was killed, but despite numerous hints, you still haven't used it. His saves and initiative rolls have been about 50/50 so far, so I wouldn't necessarily call that extraordinarily lucky. He is a wizard who is clearly out of spells, isn't carrying a visible weapon, has gone half crazy, has an obvious death wish, and.....he's BLIND! None of that sounds very lucky to me.
The badly injured group behind the webs continue to chop as fast as they can, not to escape danger, but to rush headlong into a big pile of it. Finnigan continues to chop wildly, the only one to make any real progress.
Zefarrel is just about to smash the final and real wizards head into pulp when he turns and speaks to her through a small glass cone. Seeing the obvious crazed look in the wizards eyes, she has never wanted to kill something so badly in her life. But the words of the wizard start to make sense to her, this really is a very dangerous place to be right now. Just as she spots Finnigan's ax blade cutting through the last ribbon of webs, she takes off through the northern black portal to possible safety.
Finnigan finally exposes a slit where he can bust through the webs, past the stinky cloud, and into the next room. He spots Zefarrel about to brain the blind mage, but then suddenly change her mind and take off out of the room. Zemroy stands and smiles at his accomplishments, apparently quite proud of himself that he has won the day despite his severe handicap. He again reaches into his pouch and draws forth a small crystal sphere, completely unaware that Finnigan is now looking directly at him.
Actions!
map:Elitir 5/22
Finnigan 10/25
Zefarrel 6/20 0/4 first 2/3 second
Sprig 8/10 1/2 first
Grossphil 6/16 0/2 first 0/1 second

Re: Taking The Search To Another Level
Sprig will, as quietly as he can, sneak through the opening and try to get in position for a backstab.
Re: Taking The Search To Another Level
Elitir
Elitir will attempt to kill Zemroy.
Long Sword [1d20+1] = 6+1 = 7 to hit [1d8+1] = 7+1 = 8 to damage
I think the Zemroy issue has more to do with us then him. See my roll above.

I would say you could do a front stab on a blind person, as long as you move silently.ChubbyPixie wrote:Does it have to be the back if they’re blind?
Aahhhh. Then his good luck is mostly due to your poor luck. That makes sense.Rex wrote:I think the Zemroy issue has more to do with us then him.

Grossphil the Feeble
Upon noticing the webs have been cut through, Grossphil will abandon his temporary post by the far door and move himself into position for a potential spell the following round. So he will move to about where Sprig is currently situated on the map but won't go through the door yet in case Zemroy still has another area of effect spell. No sense in all being caught out in it, again.
Yeah Rex hit it on the head with our lousy luck. On top of our dreadful rolling, he always seems to find us at the worst possible times and we never get the chance to rest. Though really that's cost him too cause we killed his familiar, whereas that wouldn't have happened if he didn't pointlessly pursue us time and time again.

Icing Down The Next Level
Day 5
Mourning?
Finnigan and Elitir charge the unarmed mage, but neither of their attacks are able to penetrate the wizards invisible shield of protection. Sprig takes a much slower and quieter approach, sneaking around the room to come at him from another angle, a move that likely saves his life again. Grossphil moves to the doorway to watch Zemroy die, unable to cause the man any real physical harm.
Now giggling to himself hysterically, Zemroy let’s the frosted glass sphere slip through his fingers so it can smash open on the stone floor. The area directly in front of the mage instantly erupts in a freakish whiteout blizzard, as snow, sleet, and freezing ice violently pelt the trio relentlessly. Save vs. Spells please. 7/14 dam
Sprig stops in his tracks before he too is caught in the icy maelstrom. He sees Zemroy fall to his knees in the blizzard, apparently not immune to his own vicious tricks. And then the effect ceases completely, leaving a wet puddle of snow and ice covering the floor in a small circle.
Quickly becoming a master of the portals herself now, Zefarrel suddenly appears in the room from the west to witness the aftermath of this next wave of carnage. Half frozen, Zemroy continues to blather and babble from his knees, reaching into his pouch again with one numb hand.
Actions!

Zefarrel will hit Zemroy with her hammer (I take it I am behind him?).

Elitir
Save Spells (16) [1d20] = 18
Elitir goes down.
OOC: I think she gets a +1 to save for her magic armor but it doesn't matter with her roll.

Re: Taking The Search To Another Level
Sprig strides silently up and attempts to place his short sword, secretly, between Zemroy's 3rd and 4th rib:
Back Stab Sneak Attack!! with Short Sword (THAC0:20): To Hit: [1d20+4] = 12+4 = 16 Damage vs. s/m: [1d6] = 5, vs. Lg: [1d8] = 1 (x2)...so 10 if it lands?

It's been 4 days, so we are moving on.
Icing Down The Next Level
Day 5
Mourning?
As the wet puddle from the melting ice grows, the three survivors see their fighters have both fallen from the wizards inst-freeze sphere. The badly injured Zemroy pulls out a strange looking bottle from his side pouch and yanks out the stopper. He puts the bottle to his lips and begins to drink.
Zefarrel and Sprig wisely approach the man from behind, unhindered by the magical shield still out in front of him. When the man starts to look better from whatever he just drank, he appears to be about to take another swig when the rear pair pounces. The priestess's hammer lands on one side of the mans head, spraying brains and gore all over the gnome, right after he also stabs his sword into the chest of the evil mage. The two blows are more than enough to finally snuff the life out of this bastard, once and for all.
While the dead mage bleeds his life force into the wet puddle, the half full, oddly shaped bottle drops from his dying hand, tinkling unbroken to the stone floor.
Actions!

Zefarrel: Grabs the bottle and administers half to Elitir & half to Fin, hoping that it is enough.

Grossphil the Feeble
Grossphil breathes a sigh of relief as Zemroy dies, muttering under his breath about how annoying he and his magic protection were. He's a bit concerned with what happened to their fighter friends, but after Zefarrel confirms they're breathing and begins distributing the healing potion he relaxes a tad. But, he's quite curious about what other goodies Zemroy might have. So while the priestess saves their pals, Grossphil will go dig around in Zemroy's bag (assuming he has one) as well as his robes and pockets.
"Just think Sprig, I could use Zemroy's spell book too and have some seriously powerful magic..." He practically salivates at the thought of adding it to his collection of magic.

Re: Taking The Search To Another Level
“You don’t suppose the storeroom was Zemroy‘s own secret stash of treasure and magical artifacts?” says Sprig. He will also rifle the wizard’s corpse, specifically looking for any notes with, say, passwords to flying rugs jotted on them.
