Re: Taking The Search To Another Level
Grossphil the Feeble
Grossphil will take the gem of seeing for himself, in the hopes that it will still be beneficial in getting them out of here. He'll also take Mac's spellbook (Grossphil would be able to use the spells from Mac's book as if they were a scroll right? As in I could use the web, charm or any other spell once but then it would disappear from the book. Or do you run it differently Ogre Mage?)
With no healing potions left, Grossphil is not sure how he could aid Sprig so he'll wait for the cleric to use some divine magic on him. For this round, Grossphil will cast invisibility on himself.
Also since Sprig was at 0 HP how come he lost a hit point? I've always been under the impression that 0 HP meant unconscious but stabilized. Would you clear that up?

Re: Taking The Search To Another Level
I assume we are on the next round. If OM hasn't already rolled for it...
Zefarrel cast CLW on Sprig
cure light wounds [1d8] = 8
I'm on a roll!
After her healing magic is spent, her eyes find Mac again. He will die for this. She looks at Grossphil. How does "the evil one" renew his magic if he can't see his spell book? Did he formerly see through the bird's eyes? If so, he won't be able to regain the spells he has cast. I have a spell of holding and a spell of silence if we want to pursue...

Sprig gasps, sits up and vomits. “There were grey people all clamoring to get on a boat...” he trails off as he looks around and realizes he is back amongst the living.

Burning Down The Next Level
Day 5
Morning?
Zefarrel moves to Sprig next, bringing the gnome back to consciousness with her prayer and soft touch. The cleric seems willing to follow after their injured nemesis. Sprig mumbles about grey people boarding a boat.
Finnigan quickly pops a potion for himself and quaffs it down before the wizard or any other nasty creatures return, felling a bit better for the effort. He moves to the burnt flesh monster next, but doesn't see anything on that dead creature. The secret room beyond remains dark.
Grossphil pockets Mac's powerful Gem of Seeing for himself, just in case they might need it again in the future. He goes through the wizards pack next, finding most of the contents badly burnt. Retrieving the spellbook, he finds a few of the pages unharmed by the powerful flames. (the first four spells on his list are damaged beyond use, but the others appear intact)
Elitir takes a sample of the mystery potion recovered from Sprigs pack. Her tiny taste feels slightly warm in her mouth and has the flavor of burnt cinnamon. When she burps the taste up, a slight hint of smoke penetrates the air around her mouth. The skinny elf then begins one of his incantations, trying to make himself invisible again.
As the group looks upon Mac, they discuss all the nasty things they will do to this damn wizard if he ever shows himself again. Their wait is shorter than they hope once two disheveled orcs suddenly rush in through the western portal, followed by Zemroy himself, already moving his hands through the air and reciting magical phrases. His eyes don't target anyone in particular, staring only at the wall directly across the room.
Actions!
map:Elitir 5/22
Finnigan 10/25
Mac -13/7 2/2 first 0/1 second (Deceased)
Zefarrel 6/20 1/4 first 3/3 second

Grossphil 6/16 0/2 first 1/1 second

Finnigan throws a few of the gems from the armour on the ground in front of the orcs, then runs into the secret room. "In here!"

Elitir follows Finnigan into the room, drawing her sword and reading her shield as she does.

Re: Taking The Search To Another Level
Zefarrel will quickly step behind the corner of the wall that she is near as she gives the "come on gesture" to Sprig. Her hope is to be out of the area of effect of the spell.
Guys, I don't like the idea of all of us being bottled up in a secret room that may be a dead end. I think it better if he doesn't know where we all are. I'm hoping that whatever he is casting can't go around corners. Command is quick, but I'm out of range. Hold person is too long & since he is already casting, there is no way I'd beat him.

My only option is a bull rush and if I take a hit I am dead. Thinking Finnigian and I can hold the door for a round or 2.

Re: Taking The Search To Another Level
Sprig glances in Zefarel’s direction, then recalls how fireballs go around corners, then recalls how he was just dropped by a fireball. Would Zemroy risk blasting himself again? The guy was clearly desperate or nuts - definitely evil, as evidenced by his companions - there was no telling what he would do. He whips out his sling and lets a bullet fly, hoping to get lucky and disrupt the casting...
Attack with Sling (THAC0:18): To Hit: [1d20] = 3 Damage vs. s/m: [1d4+1] = 1+1 = 2, vs. Lg: [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5
... and stares dumbly as the bullet ricochets harmlessly off the wall. “Aw, beans!” he mutters.

Grossphil the Feeble
Seeing Zemroy blindly enter the room with 2 orcs confirms Grossphil's belief that Zemroy is not only evil but crazy as it seems a poorly miscalculated move. Still, it changes his own plans and he is forced to curse and drop the invisibility spell he was casting. Instead of being a sitting duck, Grossphil follows his fighter companions Finnigan and Elitir into the secret room, Mac's spellbook at the ready to use as soon as possible.

A bold gnome my friend, a shame it did not work. If it's any consolation I think it impossible he has another fireball ready since those orcs had to be a monster summoning spell which is also a level 3 spell. Anywho, fingers crossed we can finally kill this son of a bitchHe whips out his sling and lets a bullet fly, hoping to get lucky and disrupt the casting...

Burning Down The Next Level
Day 5
Morning?
The seasoned adventurers don't wait to see what the wizard is up to, scattering for their lives after being so recently scorched. Finnigan tosses a handful of small gems at the feet of the orcs before bounding into the dark room with Elitir right on his tail, the smoky aftertaste of the strange warm potion still lingering on her lips. The room is completely dark, with the only light coming through the door temporarily obstructing the demi-humans dark vision.
Zefarrel sprints around the corner while Sprig loads his sling, staying near the action, trying to disrupt Zemroy's latest spell. He fails.
Grossphil abandons his casting, forfeiting his spell, but likely saving his life. He bolts away from the oncoming orcs just in time to get through the doorway with the fighters. The summoned beasts stop for a moment to gather Finnigans gems, one of them calls out loudly in broken common. "Three went in room! Two around corner!"
With that, a smelly vaporous cloud instantly develops in the main room, no doubt the result of the blind wizards casting. Sprig gets caught at its very edge and starts to cough and sputter instantly. Can I get a save vs. Spells, please. If you fail, Sprig will be overcome by the stink and unable to act.
Zemroy shouts out, presumably to his orcish escorts. "If they're beyond the cloud, then get moving!"

Finnigan pulls Grossphil to the side and prepares to fight the orcs... he'll swing away, as soon as the first one steps into the doorway.

Elitir
Elitir will try to get around the cloud and Orc's and attack Zemroy, if not possible she will attack an Orc.
Long Sword [1d20+1] = 5+1 = 6 to hit [1d8+1] = 2+1 = 3 to damage

Save vs. Spell (8): [1d20] = 9
Coughing, Sprig runs for the door, hoping he’ll beat the orcs to it.

Re: Taking The Search To Another Level
The cloud is directly in front of the doorway.
Moving into the cloud will require a save vs. spells. Failing that renders you helpless.
The way I read the spell description is that leaving the cloud as quickly as possible is the only viable action whilst in the cloud, and that is only if you save. So Sprig would need to make a second save as well, if he wanted to move deeper into the cloud.
Does that make sense?

Elitir
Elitir will defend the door then and not enter the cloud. If an Orc comes through she will attack it.

Zefarrel will wait with hammer in hand to hit any orcs that come through the cloud.
