Bregalad the elf
Bregalad would like to spend the remainder of the day working on learning Magic Missile -- if needed, studying even through the 17th. If he succeeds in this, and if there is time remaining, he would ask Drudsa if the magic-user can help him to also master Invisibility. This is something he will continue to do during his free time, until he has mastered the spell.

Both Drudsa and Meagnor need only two hours to master their respective spells. Do you guys want to spend the remaining two hours of the day studying another spell? Also, how about the 17th, when Marodin and Thordin are practicing their warcraft?
Drudsa the dabbler

It all makes sense now! What a wondrous incantation...

He then lets the others know that he can assist anyone with learning Invisibility, and will resume study of Shield.

rremedio wrote:Meagnor the Elf is not in a good mood for feasts. When not hunting nor helping the elves with their preparations and recovery, he spends all his available time studying the new spell.

He asks the elves about their leaders, warriors and mages, and about the living in that village before the coming of the ogres: "Are there other elvish villages in these lands? Do you have business with Karameikos and Darokin? Do you know anything about that abandoned tower and its former mad owner?" These and other questions, and the small talk allow Meagnor in avoiding thinking about the enchantment cast on him the day before.

He will also talk to Bregalad: "My friend, please accept your shield back. I know how dear it is to you and you can handle it in a much more skilled way than me."
Meagnor engages several of the elves in conversation during the day. They inform him that theirs was never a warlike clan, that the most skilled in the martial arts were either killed during the ogre's attack or had been one of the three sent to find help. "We can all string and fire a bow, of course, and know the rudiments of swordplay, but we are not warlike, nor are we great mages or wizards." As far as those he speaks to knows, theirs is the only elvish village within fifty or so miles. An older female tells him, "We came to this place six centuries ago seeking peace and quiet, and we had what we wanted, until a month ago." She shakes her head.

It appears that most of the elves trade is northwards, towards Darokin, although the occasional Karameikan caravan passes through, following the same rough path the heroes took north. They know nothing of the tower or its former occupant.

Thaumont 17, AC 1000

Those adventurers looking to hone their skills do so while the others perform minor chores and tasks; salting venison to replace the rations given to the elves, moving rubble and otherwise assisting in the rebuilding effort.

Tratiln and Bregalad are both successful at grasping the arcane mechanics behind their chosen spells. Thordin immediately makes a breakthrough considering the nature of melee combat using a sword; Marodin has yet to make such progress. Unfortunately for Drudsa, the structure of the Shielding spell is such that he doubts he will ever be able to learn it.
Tratiln and Bregalad both learn their spells. Thordin is now Skilled with a sword -- riftstone, can you note the corresponding abilities on your character post (not on the sheet itself, below it, please. I rolled a 100 for Drudsa learning Shield. That means he is unable to learn the spell, although he can cast it from a scroll, use magical items that duplicate its effects, etc.

Do you guys want to wait another day to give Marodin a chance to become Skilled?

Bregalad the elf

Bregalad thanks Lanny for his patience in teaching him Magic Missile! He will have that and Light memorized for the next adventure!
Bregalad has no problem giving Marodin another day to practice. Although the village is just starting to recover, it reminds him of home, and he has no problem staying there for awhile to help the villagers, or teach anyone (including the village elves) the Light spell or Magic Missile, if they are interested.

Thaumont 18, AC 1000

By the time morning comes it appears the rain has been banished to some more remote, damper corner of the Duchy. The sky is a clear and crisp blue, the air fresh. Marodin trains with his warhammer whilst the others busy themselves with their mounts. The capable cleric soon discovers the insight he has been seeking, and is ready to go just as the horses are fed and saddled.

The remaining population of Tall Oak waves the companions out of sight, thanking them for both their courageous help and selfless generosity. The ride is long but welcome after many days of rain and camping in the cavern which, while cleared of evil influence, still did not feel quite right.

It is near sundown when the companions arrive in the small town of Jessup. The folk are eager for news from the north.

Marodin becomes Skilled in the warhammer after a mere two more hours. I decided that there would not be enough time to study, and that the rest of the crew would busy themselves preparing to go. The town of Jessup can be reached after a long ride, again not leaving time to study, but I figured that is preferable to a night-time wilderness encounter check. If I am wrong, please correct me. Basic equipment (such as a new shield, oil, torches etc. may be purchased in Jessup. Arrows and such are available, as are basic weapons, but more exotic/expensive goods are not.

If there is anything you guys want to do here, great, otherwise we shall move on.

Semele will buy a week of iron rations.

Bregalad the elf

Bregalad will also purchase a week's worth of dried rations. He will not say anything about their most recent adventure with the cube/ogres/elves, because he would like to give the elves some anonymity until they have sufficiently recovered. He figures they will make themselves known to the surrounding towns, when they are ready.

Thordin the dwarf will purchase 2 weeks of iron rations, another skin for water and one for wine. He will try to purchase another pony for use as a pack animal (complete with packs).

50gp will go towards the innkeeper for "future visits".
Thordin has a Rowan shield he is not using, should anyone else need to use it.

Thaumont 19, AC 1000

Drudsa makes inquiries in the morning about the availability of the rare materials needed to scribe arcane syllables into his spellbook and is informed that just south of town is the house of a hedge wizard name Lemarr. Though the innkeeper is half convinced Lemarr is a charlatan and fraud, he admits that there is a strong likelihood the wizard may have such ingredients for sale.

The hedge wizard genuflects greatly when Drudsa intrudes into the small house, almost a hut. Dried herbs hang from the ceiling, a stuffed dog stands stiffly besides the hearth and a large bureau is pawed through before Lemarr produces the necessary ingredients.
Drudsa may purchase either 75 or 150 gp worth of ingredients.

Meagnor the Elf Before leaving, Meagnor will donate 200gp to the elvish village. At Jessup he will buy 1 week of dried rations and 20 normal arrows. He will also go with Drudsa to check the wizard and buy materials to buy the spell.

"Sir, do you sell special potions that could be useful to adventurers like us?"
tk, you did not answer my previous question about the availability of stuff to scribe spells, so I'll just assume that the amount of money Meagnor "paid" (75gp) was actually spent now with Lemarr.

Lemarr the hedge wizard

"Alas, sir elf, I do not. This village is altogether too poor to be able to afford such extravagances."
Shit, I must have missed the question. Can you ask it again OOC? To clarify, dude has components available to scribe two first level spells or one second level spell.

The adventurers leave the safety and quiet of Jessup and head south under cloudy skies. Far off in the distance, just as the party leaves the cover of the forest and begins to ascend into the mountain to the southeast, can be seen the silhouettes of a half dozen or so winged horses, flying just under the cloud cover in a southerly direction. Lanny, with the spyglass, estimates them to be a good three or four miles off and getting further away.

The group ascends into the mountains by mid-morning, with the tower visible to the west. It takes another hour of careful searching before they come across what is likely the trail to the tower; overgrown with brambles and weeds, it looks at one point to have been wide enough for a wagon or carriage, but time and the elements has reduced it to little more than a narrow path, barely wide enough for a horse. It appears as if the tower is perhaps two miles away, although distances are hard to judge in this mountainous terrain.
