It takes 2d4 turns to break free.

No Trogs are currently free - Fingers backstabbed the only one.

The answer depends on how you all try to cross the pit.

Fingers would try to rig up some kind of rope harness to lower Sprinkles down, then climb carefully down himself. He could also take the end of a rope, so that everyone else could cross over on the rope, if that's possible.

Fingers climbs down the pit wall, crosses gingerly between the tall spikes, and climbs the shear wall on the other side of the pit. Having achieved the opposite position, he's able to use the group's ropes and a few pitons to rig a rope-line across the pit-top which allows the groups to scale their way across one at a time without climbing 30' to the pit below, but where they must be careful to balance and not fall.

In the meantime, Hengist, Winnie, Markd, and Bandy dispatch all the stuck and/or sleeping troglodytes. The foul smell of their flesh and blood polutes the hallway, growing more noxious by the moment as their blood and ichor washes the floor.

No more creatures emerge, the spells over and the wall no longer swirling. There's a section of webbing obscuring your way ahead still, but you hear no activity in the hallway beyond. You could cut your way through the webbing pretty quickly to continue pursuing or follow Finger's way back.

"So...are we running away from the angry spell-casting elf now, or what?" asks Fingers from the other side of the pit.

"We got chewed up a bit, but we're still here. If that elf throws much more at us I'm not sure I fancy our chances. I think I'm with Fingers on this one, says Hengist.

I'll do whatever the group wants on this one. I havent had time to pay as much attention as it deserves, but also dont want to give up on a good chance to clear it if we think we have the skills to do it.

If you'll pardon a moment of experience-based threat assessment—or metagaming, if you prefer:

Whatever that was just brought forth three groups of trogs. If that was from a spell, it was Monster Summoning II, which is a 4th-level spell. Which would mean we're dealing with a 10th-level spell-caster. OTOH, I wouldn't expect someone with three 4th-level spells available just to pull back after summoning monsters three times, so maybe that's a 3x/day ability, or it used an item with charges. Who knows?

Even more meta: our lone arcane spellcaster prepped for a different threat and is an NPC for a while. Maybe Winnie, now that she's no longer casting an offensive spell, could try once more to make nice? If that fails, then I suggest we withdraw unless Bandy and Markd are condifent that they can handle whatever just attacked us.

"We were wanting to help!" whines Fingers.

"Winnie, please ask again if we could make friends, this time without mooching for loot. But if we can't even talk without getting stinky trogs thrown at us, let's just go."

Winnie calls ahead once more, entreating through the wall of webbing, offering friendship. The creature beyond, however, appears to have retreated. There is nothing but silence in return for her efforts.

With Fingers' expert help rigging the rope-walk, the group is able to cautiously traverse the pit trap, then with their maps assuring your way, arrive back to the keep by the most expeditious route. You are back up with the spectral swordsmen around mindnight. They set up a watch to allow you all to rest, which you do, rising after the sun is fully into the sky in the morning.

A new day is before you - along with the same three challenges as yesterday. You can go below to again pursue Gadrinest the elf, take your chances with the Wizard Tower at the north end of the wall, or clear out the Gargoyles (particular their lair tower at the south end of the curtain wall). Or, you can leave these challenges to Markd's future endeavors and all return to civiliation...

(Hengist - please specify evening and morning healing.)

Markd selfishly votes for the gargoyles. Plus, it would help the caravans going along the plains, and allow mounts to come back to the city safely.

I have two Cure Light Wounds left for tonight. I need one for myself, but can use the other on someone else if it would help. In the morning a restock back to 5

"Well, that was a bust," sighs Fingers, sitting with an arm wrapped around his dog's neck. "Sorry, everyone. I kind of suck at getting us loot."

He ponders the group's options. Wizard tower? Gargoyles? Go back to the elf? Go to one of the other places they have maps for? Go home? The last option is tempting, but he feels bad that the group hasn't turned a profit on the trip. "We originally came here to fight the gargoyles, so let's do that. But the blessing on my bow is gone so I'm not going to be much help in killing them. How's everyone on food? Do we have enough to rest a couple of days to get everyone healthy again?"

Markd shouldnt need one. Your PC is the only one marked moderately wounded. My suggestion would be to do this one at a time, since in theory you would have to anyway. If you get a good roll on first, then ask if the others need the 2nd one. If you dont, or still have lots of HP to heal, use the 2nd on you as well.

Hengist distributes Baudh's blessings upon the group, which are quite strong in mending their injuries. He finds that Markd's wounds are fully healed by the time they reach the keep above once more.

The cleric realizes he is the worst-injured and feels much better after his initial ministration. Not wanting to appear stingy, he prays next for Fingers instead, who is fully healed by Baudh.

The decisions for the morning stand before you.
