Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Welcome, To Minotaur Island
Freeday, 12th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Warm, Misty, Buggy
After a healing prayer from the priest of Pholtus, Alordan thinks for a moment, if he were a tree, what might he consider a friendly gesture. The ranger walks over to the strange tree, seeing its exposed roots, like many of the other trees growing in this sandy island soil. He pours some of his precious water out onto the ground and watches it quickly absorb into the dry earth at the trees base. He watches for a reaction from the huge plant, but nothing comes of the humans kind gesture.
Maag retrieves his cumbersome pole and joins the others near the cave mouth that he almost forgot about. Lerrick asks around to see if anyone else is in need of healing before they investigate the cave. Crestbrook lowers his voice slightly and lights up a torch, telling the others he has spotted something just inside the opening. With his sword at the ready, he walks into the darkness.
Inside the cave, its dry and fairly clean, with a large area just beyond the entrance that appears to be a sleeping mat for a rather large creature. The paladin spots 3 tunnels leading off of this larger cave, each appears to head off in a different direction. There is also a short raised circular dais in the center of the stone cave floor. This dais is 4 feet wide, but only about 8 or 10 inches off of the ground. The top of it is adorned with a chiseled engraving of a crude outline of a bulls head. Mystic symbols ring the outer rim of the circle, engraved all around the carved image.
The cave and all of its passages are pitch black except where the natural light shines in near the entrance.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Alordan watches the tree for a bit longer before backing away. Another of natures puzzles to consider for another time.
Entering the cave he searches for tracks or clues of any comings and goings. If he finds none, he'll examine the dais. Is it a platform or an entrance to something deeper perhaps.

The paladin checks out the room, checking in particular the sleeping mat area. He stirs things around with the tip of his sword, checking to see if anything is underneath it.
Lerrick
Lerrick is instantly drawn to the dais in the middle of the room. She inspects the surface and tries to read the runes on the sides

Can we get an action from Maag?
Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Sorry
Maag
Maag sees people poking around with the weird looking dias. "I'm not sure yer wanna mess wiv dat", he growls cautiously. He remains at the entrance to the cave, waiting for everybody else to set off the various traps that are obviously strewn around inside.
He stands across the threshold, where he can also keep an eye open for the sneaky magical tree.

Welcome, To Minotaur Island
Freeday, 12th of Goodmonth

The anxious group moves into the cave in front of their trusted trap finder, but none of them die from it.
Alordan sees a few more of the hooved tracks near the entrance to the cave, but they are hard to spot now on the hard stone floor of the cave system. He joins Lerrick and Gramble at the strange dais, the large fighter already has his henchman scribe recording the sigals into his journal. The dais looks quite solid and doesn’t appear to open in any way. The symbols on its surface definitely appear arcane in nature.
Sir Crestbrook finds only soiled, rotting vegetation in the apparent bedroll. It looks as though this might have been a place where the minotaur slept to keep out of any bad weather. It is curious to the paladin why it would be so close to the exit, however, as if the beast was afraid to get too far into the cave.
Saracen and Maag are the last to enter the cave, the priest of Pholtus casting a prayer and looking around carefully as he does so. They spot slightly more swaying from the tree than the breeze would allow, but don’t pick up anything overly evil or magical from its presence. Nothing inside of the stone ring detects as magical, including the many statues, so the cleric moves into the cave with the others. There he finds the dais glowing brightly under his spell, clearly registering as a magical device.
Then Sir Crestbrook spots something scrawled on the cave wall in front of him, barely illuminated in the light of his flickering torch.

Thinking out loud as he pokes through the makeshift bed Why would the beast set up camp here? the paladin notices some writing on the wall in front of him. He lifts up his sword and moves closer to wall so that his touch light gives him a better view. He then boldly announces to his party members of his find. I HAVE FOUND SOMETHING! Come and see!
Lerrick
The cleric gives up on the dias and moves to check out the writings on the wall discovered by the paladin.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Saracen will mention what he finds is magical to the group, and what is not. Whilst the others examine the scales on the wall, the Holy Champion of Pholtus will stand at the entrance to each of the tunnels leading from this room and extend his enhanced senses to try and discover any magical emanations coming from the passages. detects magic down each of the tunnels.

Crestbrook holds his torch up high towards the cave walls and sees words scribbled on them in the common tongue.
I will have my revenge! is written there, not just once, but many, many times over. In fact, the more the group searches the inside walls of this cave, the more of them they find. The exact same sentence, written out hundreds of times. The “ink” used is a brownish red color, of course.
Saracen peers down each of the three passages leading off of this main cave. He doesn’t detect any magical emanations from any of them, but does pick up a slight hint of a sweet fragrance, lilac or lavender possibly, coming from the passage leading north.

Hmmm perhaps someone was exiled to this rock at some point and wasn't happy about it.

Maag continues to follow his own Watch yer back advice and lurks near the entrance until the group has decided which way to proceed.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Saracen siddles up to the Paladin and coughs gently in his ear. If you keep being loud and attracting the attention of every monster or resident that lairs in the place by announcing our presence here, we shall be buttering you up and feeding you to the next creature that is drawn to us because of your big fat mouth. So put a sock in it will you! Can you sense any evil nearby? Paladins can do that right? the fighter/cleric hisses sharply. (
)
Some flowery scent coming from this tunnel,” the holy champion whispers to the others, pointing to the northern tunnel.
Stowing his bow he will keep his sword out and Shield at the ready, happy to be underground and in the cooler air.
The Dias is enchanted, and powerfully so. How I do not know. It could be a ward, or trap, or a secret way deeper under the island maybe, or it might hold something enchanted within it. The half-orc shrugs and takes a closer look at it in his enhanced vision, seeing if he can pinpoint what part is magical with further scrutiny, or whether it’s just all enchanted. Are there any protrusions or patterns cross it that can be seen without touching the thing?

Welcome, To The Cave, On Minotaur Island
Freeday, 12th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Warm, Humid, Damp
The boisterous paladin continues to shout and thrust, much to the chagrin of his fellow party members. Most shrug his excitable speeches off, but Saracen finally offers the young human a bit of advice, suggesting he calm down and use his pious powers to detect for any evil emanations, if he can.
Looking over the dais more carefully, the holy warrior sees that the arcane symbols etched around the circle seem to hold most of its power, though the entire dais detects as magical. The cleric can’t read the sigils himself, but he knows that wizards use magic circles for many of their conjuring and summoning arts. Saracen then looks around at the others, one at a time, as if to ask what their next step should be.

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Alordan looks concerned at the magical explanation of the dais. It probably won’t end well.
“I suppose keeping a wide berth of that thing for now lest we trigger it? Flowery smells in a cave like this is probably a trap or a lure. Flowers like that usually like the sun - not a dark cave like this...”
He considers a moment then looks up at the paladin. “Why don’t you lead the way?”

Sir Creastbrook detects evil

The cleric raises her eyebrow at Alordan's comment and replies quietly, being careful not to disturb the concentration of the paladin, now that he has finally shut up. You know he'll think that is a complement. After a small laugh she checks on her medical supples, like she's done several times before when preparing to go into a place that maybe potentially hazardous.
The paladin turns to Saracen with a puzzled look on his face "You are not the first who has told me that. Strange to keep hearing that over and over again. He shakes his head in disbelieve and pauses for a moment...and yes, I shall check for evil. This takes a few minutes. Please provide protection as it will take all of my concentration to do so. He turns to the towards the northern tunnel and then closes his eyes to focus and begins to hum in a quiet, low monotone voice.Storm11 wrote:Saracen If you keep being loud and attracting the attention of every monster or resident that lairs in the place by announcing our presence here, we shall be buttering you up and feeding you to the next creature that is drawn to us because of your big fat mouth.
