Investigation 1: Etta + Lionel:
Save the Hammer for the Man
Aug. 10, 2018, 9:30am
Warm, Humid
Etta goes up to the office door and an older woman who waves you in. When she looks up at you she squints a little through some glasses that might be as old as she is. Nice cardigan... What's that lapel pen though? What brings you to John Henry Tooling Warehouse?
Lionel is lead down the work floor by NPC42 Oops Charlie where he calls out to some of the other workers about finding Morty? Where is he? Other Guys steadily begin pointing him to other parts of the noisy shop floor. Everyone is busy and Lionel gets the impression of this being a real blue-collar ant farm.
In relatively short time Charlie gets him to someone obviously coordinating everything who is talking to some of the other workers, sending them to other parts of the warehouse on various errands. He looks up at Charlie and then Lionel, raising an eyebrow, but seems impressed on some small level as he moves forward. Charlie... you get that inventory scanned in? Well, get on it!
Come on kid! Hello sir, how can I help you? he offers a hand as Charlie hurries off to get back to whatever it was he was supposed to be doing.

Etta smiles broadly at the woman. "Well, thank you! The pin has this cute little ghost on it. Ghostbusters, right? Well, that's me. I'm Dr. Vanette Conklin, from Ghostbusters International." She holds a hand out to shake with the woman. "We received a call that there might be some trouble. May I speak with whoever is in charge?"
Re: Investigation 1 - Etta + Lionel: Leave the Hammer for t
The woman nods a little then blinks when she hears there was a call. Oh boy... she gets up and shuffles over to the door to Etta's left. Mr. Frank! knock knock knock Mr. Frank! Someone here to see you! Turning back to Etta. He'll be a minute...Pulpatoon wrote:Etta smiles broadly at the woman. "Well, thank you! The pin has this cute little ghost on it. Ghostbusters, right? After a moment an older man walks in leaning on a cane and sucking on an old pipe as he looked over at Etta with squinted eyes. This guy looks like he should have retired 20 years ago. His sparse white hair standing out wildly like a strange halo off his mostly bald head. His voice wavered as he spoke but it held extreme authority... Suddenly Etta felt like she was talking to her dad... maybe her grandpa...? What seems to be the problem...? he wheezes grumpily... cocking one eye at Etta as a puff of blueish smoke wafted up out of his mouth as he spoke.

Lionel will shake the offered hand, introducing himself as he does so. My name is Lionel Williams, sir. I'm with Ghostbusters, International- we have a regional office here in Fort Smith. You may have heard of us? Anyway, we received a call that there had been...how to put this delicately...a sighting, that may have been responsible for causing an employee to get injured recently. Are you the foreman? My associate is in the office. With your permission, we'd like to take some readings, maybe speak with a few people, kind of get a preliminary assessment of what might have happened and how we can best prevent it from happening again.

Re: Investigation 1 - Etta + Lionel: Leave the Hammer for t
Etta introduces herself and asks Mr. Frank's title, and whether they can step into his office. There, she explains that they are responding to a call, and are wondering if the warehouse management wants to formally engage the Fort Smith Ghostbusters to investigate the premises. She demonstrates the PKE meter and outlines their basic investigation procedure, and the fee schedule. "Businesses are often unaware of how much of a drain even the most minor of hauntings can be on productivity."

The older man reaches out and shakes Lionel's hand. Yeah, I'm the dayside foreman, Frank. Not sure about permission to look around. What does it intel? We have a lot of stock moving around this area and someone can get hurt quick and bad if they are not paying attention or somewhere they are not supposed to be. You don't even have a hardhat... Are you wearing steel-toed boots? An injury...? Oh wait... You mean Pee-Wee? Yeah, took his hardhat off or something and got konked on the head. Not sure on details.
That happened on 2nd shift. Must have been Gredy's shift. He's the night foreman... Let's have a look over here... With that, Frank walks Lionel over to a desk to one side of the floor. Once there, he grabs a white hardhat and hands it over to Lionel. Here... put that on... He then begins going through papers on his desk and finds some handwritten notes. Well, crap... he reads through the note then nods. Well, can't fault him... some other papers got put on top of this one... Apparently, Pee-Wee claimed Old Griff threw a hammer at him in the old utility room... That's all we need is those old rumors starting up again.
Appreciate that you are both handling dialog this way since it keeps things from getting bogged down.
My name is Frank Henry, Sr. I own this company and I am the President of the company for 63 years now. I know nothing about any Ghostbusters nor do I know any reason to engage in some kind of business with them. What could there possibly be to investigate here? I don't care about your video games, woman... I am losing my patience with all this! when she demonstrates the PKE. Are you here from OCEA or something? Come to harass me for money? I wasn't bought out by Harper and his Gang... I won't be bought out by you, either! Bah! Our productivity is up! Now, I have heard enough. Unless you have something else to say... I.... say.... *sigh* I say................ Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... and just like that the old man drops to sleep at his desk.

Re: Investigation 1 - Etta + Lionel: Leave the Hammer for t
Etta looks at the sleeping head of Mr. Henry for a moment, and then quietly puts her stuff away and quietly lets herself out of the office. Outside, she informs the the woman, presumedly his secretary, "Asleep, poor dear. All tuckered out. Tell me, how active is Mr. Henry in the day-to-day operations of this facility? Is there someone more... hands on I should be talking to?"
Re: Investigation 1 - Etta + Lionel: Leave the Hammer for t
Secretary not exactly a spring chicken herself, the old hen of very similar age to Etta looks at the door uncomfortably and looks up speaking in a slightly elevated very clear voice. Frank, Sr. is now and always has been the man in charge of John Henry Tooling Warehouse. that being said as she scribbled something on a piece of scrap paper and hands it to Etta with a pointed look.
She points to the white hardhats hanging on the wall near the exit to the floor. Now Ma'am, I am going to have to ask you to leave now, before Mr. Henry gets upset.

Donning the hardhat, Lionel responds. We definitely don't want to do anything that would disrupt your operations any more than absolutely necessary. Whatever safety gear we need to wear so we are not violating any safety regulations...We'd need to see the area the incident occurred, take some readings with our equipment. It'd probably be best to do it around the same time the incident happened, maybe need to alter schedules a bit, not really sure...Do you have a few moments? We should head to the office and speak with my associate, Etta. She'll have a better handle on the process and how to work up an invoice and whatnot. If you have any questions, she should be able to answer them.

Etta did not have one going into the office. If someone points out that she should don one as she begins to follow the painted line pointed out to her earlier, she will, but it probably won't occur to her on her own.

Thanks for the reminder! Yes, Etta sensibly grabs a hardhat and takes a moment to fit her coiffure in it, so that she won't have hat-hair afterwards.

Etta having donned a hardhat on her way out of the office was quickly able to "follow the line" and find Lionel over by one of the walls where Frank, Jr. was speaking about the note left by the night foreman about Pee-Wee getting hurt and calling you in for an investigation.
GM rolls Dice.
Frank, Jr. Looks up to see Etta and noticing a new face and putting two and two together, offering her a nod as she approaches while he continues to speak to Lionel. Okay, so you being here checks out, not that I was calling anyone a lier or anything. I can tell you that there have been rumors for a long time that there was a ghost or something that people say is Steve. Folks tend to blame things that go wrong on him, half as a joke, some trying to get out of whatever it is they cause, but I think there are some people that really do believe what they see. Personally, I am a skeptic...

Any chance Etta can use Salsa Dancing to get out of the way? No, I didn't think so.
6 BP: [6d6] = 19 Moves: [1d6] = 1 Ghost: [1d6] = 4
Etta lets out a strangled squeak as she sees the tottering tower of shelving, and attempts to get away. Pushing her rolling-bag ahead of her, and knowing that she can't leap far enough, she builds up momentum, throws herself onto the wheeled luggage, and attempts to body-surf at maximum speed. It's not dignified, but it might just save her life.

Seeing Etta in danger, Lionel's football instincts kick in. Without thinking, the former star athlete hits top speed in two strides, launching himself at Etta. He attempts to grab her and, since he is not sacking a quarterback, he attempts to roll so she lands on top of him instead of driving her into the warehouse floor.

Ahem............................. BOOM!!! is all Etta can hear as she takes a dive only to feel herself jolted in another direction. As the two ghostbusters untangle themselves on the far side of the work floor, they can see the large industrial shelf and all of its contents slam into the concrete like a hammer smiting and anvil. Heavy equipment and good scatter across the floor in a cone of debris, the impact of which seems to shake the entire warehouse. All activities stops for a split second before every worker seems to come running to make sure no one is hurt or needs rescuing.
There is a man standing behind where the shelf was standing who looks pale and shocked... you know... like this
I swear! I didn't touch it! he says his hands up.
There is all the loud colorful explanations back and forth between everyone as they scramble to make double sure there are no injuries. The worker that was behind the shelf looks plenty rattled. He continues to explain he did nothing.
Frank, Jr. eventually had everyone coordinated to start the cleanup and comes over to Etta & Lionel Everyone okay? Heck of a move there son, you play ball or something?

Etta is flustered to the point of distraction by her brush with pulverization. For a few minutes all she can do is repeat "Oh my goodness," while tentatively touching different parts of her body, reassuring herself that they are still there.
Finally collecting herself, she thanks Lionel, reassures the workers that she is okay, and pulls up the PKE app on her phone. She takes a reading on the shelves.
