Ch. 1: Rescue Penelope Primrose!
Re: Ch. 1: Rescue Penelope Primrose!
Twiddle puts an arrow in the side of one of the startled wolves (W3), which yelps in pain—then growls with with fury and runs towards him! As the foul beast bears down on him, its eyes crazed with hunger, Twiddle hastily grabs and nocks another arrow. The wolf leaps! Twiddle fires! They both hit the ground in a pile. The wolf has another arrow in its hide. Twiddle, thankfully, is unharmed.
Iliro moves to the left and fires two sling stones that clink harmlessly off the ceiling.
Tanta and Cy charge the nearest wolf (W1). Tanta plunges his sword deep into its chest. Cy smacks it on the nose like the bad dog it is. Molly follows just behind, her spear just missing the wolf. It lunges for Tanta's neck—but instead of tasty halfling neck, the wolf tastes only the tip of Molly's spear. It falls to the floor, dead.
The third wolf (W2) attacks Dax, who has taken a defensive position. Dax nicks it with his battle axe. The wolf grabs hold of one of the dwarf's legs and chews (-5 HP). Grond swings his mighty two-handed sword at the creature, hoping to dislodge it, but the wolf manages to avoid the big blade.
W1: Dead
W2: Barely wounded
W3: Moderately wounded

Re: Ch. 1: Rescue Penelope Primrose!
Twiddle crawls free of the dead wolf that he killed. Alone. He curses that his bow is trapped under its weight. Unwilling to lose another companion today, Even if it is the dwarf that was mesmerized by a statue of a little boy urinating, he charges W2 with his spear, impaling it with a grim smile. Gotcher back, Dax. he grunts.
Twiddle struggles under the weight of W3, which has somehow managed to survive two arrows, one through the eye. He really hates dogs! Against all odds, he manages to bring his spear to bear on the slobbering, foul-breathed, enviably-fur-footed creature. Just DIE! he rages.
Spear (THAC0 19): [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16, damage [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3, Initiative [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5

Iliro
The excitement of battle gets the better of Iliro and he frowns as both of this shots go upward instead of to his target. He readies another stone and takes more care with his aim.
Sling (THAC0:19): [1d20] = 8 [1d4] = 1 Init: [1d6] = 1
He inwardly groans with the result.

Combat Round 2
Twiddle climbs to his feet, glad to be rid of the foul wolf that he killed (W3), and turns to help Dax. Fortunately for Twiddle, he notices just in time that the "dead" wolf is also climbing to its feet. Twiddle spins and stabs the foul-breathed creature with his spear—while noting to himself that the wolf really does have an enviable amount of fur on its feet. The wolf, heavily wounded but still fighting, snaps ineffectively at the brave halfling.
Tanta, Molly and Cy rush forward to help Twiddle. Only Molly is able to draw blood—she gives the beast yet another hole in its hide. Annoyingly, the wolf still lives.
Meanwhile, Grond and Dax fight the remaining lone wolf (W2). Er, lone remaining wolf. Grond's big sword swooshes just over the wolf's head. Dax's axe strikes the wolf's side precisely but not deeply. The wolf keeps chewing on Dax's leg like it's a rawhide toy—which, in a way, maybe it is (Dax: -3 HP). Blood gushes from the wound.
Iliro stands back and fires a sling stone at the wolf fighting Dax and Grond—heedless of the melee and the risk that he might hit one of his allies. The stone zings just past Dax's left ear.
W2: Lightly wounded
W3: Critically wounded

Tanta
Tanta tries to hit the wolf with her sword and misses badly.
Sword [1d20] = 1 to hit [1d8] = 2 damage
Critical fumble?

Molly
Alongside her Halfling compatriots, Tanta and Twiddle, Molly continues determinedly jabbing at the injured wolf with her spear. But, to little avail. Its hide is tough and the damn thing just doesn't want to die.
Initiative: [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3
Spear (THAC0 19): [1d20] = 9 to hit, damage: [1d6] = 6

Re: Ch. 1: Rescue Penelope Primrose!
Twiddle is torn. Not literally, mind you, but torn between gratitude for over the help, and irritation that this is his kill. He swings fast. He swings furiously. He swings ineffectively. He decides more help wouldn't be amiss. Aack! is his lame war cry.
Spear (THAC0 19): [1d20+1] = 5+1 = 6, damage [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5, Initiative [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6

Cy
Cy coughs and shakes his head. Stay focused, Cy. Drink can come later. He swings his mace...it is almost like he is totally out of practice with the thing all of a sudden.
Mace (THAC0 19): [1d20] = 4 [1d6] = 1 Init: [1d6] = 1
I see in your notes that Cy is weakened - do you remember when that happened?
Apologies to everybody for being away!

Round 3
The third round of combat is nearly a push, as everyone forgets how to hit their opponents. Twiddle is so worried about people trying to steal his kill that he neglects to kill it himself. Fortunately, the wolf fighting him gets nothing but a mouth full of chain mail.
Only Grond, with his big two-handed sword, is able to do any damage. With sudden power and accuracy, as if his hand is guided by an unseen force (like, say, the DM making an NPC roll), he brings his sword into the haunches of the wolf gnawing on Dax. The wolf yelps and lets go of Dax, who jumps away. Iliro puts away his sling and attacks the wolf with his spear, but can't finish it off.
Actions for Round 4!

Seeing that poking with a spear works better than swinging it, Twiddle does just that. And expertly, too! The more-furry-footed-than-Twiddle-beast will be his for the killing yet! Ha! I ain't no holler back girl, puppy! Gotcha that time, didn't' I!?
