how do you handle spell reversel? Does the reverse spell have to be memprized? or can yoiu cast the reverse of a memeorized spell?

Strom tries his best to account for the weakness he feels as he launches a second attack at the nearest foe.

Attack:
[1d20] = 12

Dmg: (if necessary)
[1d8+1] = 6+1 = 7

Yes, and no. They're 2 hit die creatures and attacking common, unarmored farmers.

This is a good question, and I have updated the '09. Spells' section to reflect the following rule, from the 2E PHB, Appendix 2, 'Notes on Spells':

Spell Reversals
Some spells are reversible (they can be cast for an effect opposite to that of the standard spell). This is noted after the spell name. Priests with reversible spells must memorize the desired version. For example, a priest who desires a cause light wounds spell must petition for this form of the spell when meditating and praying.

Reversible wizard spells operate similarly. When the spell is learned, both forms are recorded in the wizard's spell books. However, the wizard must decide which version of the spell he desires to cast when memorizing the spell, unless the spell description specifically states otherwise.

Round 3

#65 Post by dmw71 »

Once again, the monsters act more quickly. The first troglodyte (a8) continues its assault against the final unfamiliar farmer remaining in the melee. While the beast misses with a ferocious bite, it does manage to successfully rake with both sets of claws, dropping the unnamed local (L1) dead. The second swamp beast (a2) looks to finish off Norian and, despite landing a successful claw and bite attack, can't seem to fell the determined defender. Alordan seems to have drawn the ire of the troglodyte he sniped at last round (a2) as it wheels to attack the ranger. While able to avoid two claw attempts, Alordan feels flesh tear as he becomes a victim of a wicked bite attempt (-5). The sword-weilding foe (a4) has to decide between Ewell and Kaltar, and chooses the warrior. While able to avoid serious damage, the cavalier does receive a nasty cut (-3) as the lizard blade catches him solidly.

Gwilt, Kaltar, Alordan and Strom all suffer some bad luck as none are able to land successful blows against their opponents. Ewell fares better, managing to extract some revenge against the sword-weilding troglodyte (a4), but the beast still appears strong... until Theora unleashes a powerful blow against the scaly foe! It is left hobbling badly, but still looking to carry on the fight.

Shannigans, looking to avoid firing into melee, moves south, passing behind Epsilon, to get a clearer shot at one of the entangled trogs (sc1) that killed a farmer. His arrow flies wide causing the halfling to look at his bow as if something must be wrong with it.

Epsilon fires a sling bullet over the unsuspecting head of an entangled trot. A miss, but hopefully a warning of things to come.

---

On the far north side of the entangled area, the troglodyte (l1) engaged with Garth, having already thrown its two javelins, successfully fights through its binds, freeing itself. It quickly launches a succession of natural attacks against Garth which, except for a nick from a claw (-1), the elf is able to avoid. Garth quickly drops his sling and switches to his scimitar, slashing almost defensively at the approaching troglodyte and managing to connect with a glancing blow, but one that leaves the scaled beast severely damaged. Seeing the troglodyte weakened so, Garth hopes to end his conflict quickly.

---

The two entangled troglodytes north of the stream (a10, sc1) continue to fight to break free, but both remain held fast. The pair south of the stream also fight to free themselves; one of them (a9) able to do so successfully.

This newly freed swamp creature quickly comes to the defense of the recently ambushed troglodytes (a7, l2). The tackled pair (a7, l2) are clearly still fighting off the shock of their tumble and miss in embrassing fashion; the first of the two to act (l2) claws and bites at the olive-skinned warrior and misses with all three attacks without coming close. The second beast (a7), armed with a javelin, is no match for the agility of this warrior, nearly snapping his spear in half as a result of his futile effort. Even the recently unentangled third troglodyte (a9) can't match the quickness of this latest warrior to the scene. Then, with an animistic war cry, the olive-skinned man brings his dark steel in a sweeping arc, cleanly relieving the javelin-toting lizards neck of its head (a7).

---

Garth and Epsilon are still entitled to actions in round three.

However, everyone should feel free to begin declaring round four actions, with one of you rolling for initiative.

Initiative [1d10] = 6

Gwilt continues his attack against the trog in front of him (a8), feinting towards the left leg before slashing at the right one.

To Hit, Scimitar [1d20+4] = 17+4 = 21

Damage, Scimitar [1d8+3] = 4+3 = 7

Ewell decides to...

longsword to hit (+3 str bonus): [1d20+3] = 2+3 = 5 , damage1d8 (+4 str bonus): [1d8+4 ] = 4+4 = 8

well apparently nothing of value other than not breaking his sword...

Kaltar attempts to show the young warrior how its done , clerical style....

Mace Action To Hit [1d20] = 17 Dam [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7

...And strikes a sound blow:
"that's how you do it my son, of course I am not suggesting it was all my own work!" he doesn't even glance in Ewell's direction but smiles at his joke.

Alordan mutters to himself as he swings his blade around for another blow at the Trogs:

Long sword attack (Normal;) [1d20] = 4 (THACO=20)

:shock:

Long sword (Normal; +3 Str Damage) - damage [1d8+3] = 4+3 = 7 (7 - 2str drain) = 5

Seeing an eminent melee situation, the druid drops his sling and draws his blade.

[1d20] = 17 to hit
[1d8] = 1 damage

You're totally fine. If anything, I was a bit early, but only because most actions were already in, and I had an unexpected break in my day that allowed me a chance to get an update out there. Because my days are far more chaotic now than even a week ago, my posting will still be pretty steady, but less predicable.

Like wolfpack/Epsilon, what you just posted will be your third round action. While your intentions are pretty clear, I'd rather have you post your own fourth round actions/rolls, but will move you along (or temporarily skip) depending upon the timing.

You're right. Not sure how that happened? I'll blame it on my working on a Kindle, but even that doesn't really excuse it.

Yes, I do still need a fourth round action for Garth, not Strom.

You can fire another bullet this round. I'm looking at the equipment page and it shows a speed factor of 11, but a rate-of-fire of 1 per round. So, you can shoot once per round, but it will be a very late action in the order of events in a given round.
