Malak, while hoping he would be able to reengage, sees nothing but a congestion of friendly bodies in front of him, blocking his path. Accepting that an attack is unlikely, he will attempt to sneak (clockwise) around the pillar he's next to, joining Wulfgard, hoping he can better position himself to take a meaningful action in the future (next round).

Ilhalevar frowns at the ineffectiveness of her spell. She grips her staff in frustration, unable to inflict any damage with it, as well, and says, "Try fire! Maybe the thing does not like fire."

Determined to press the attack, a flash of thought also pierces the Ranger's thick skull. As he strikes, he yells to the others: Try to pull Varkos free!

To hit: [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12, damage with WS spear, sm-med: [1d6+3] = 5+3 = 8

"Good idea!" Rake answers the ranger's suggestion.

Dropping his sword and shield he attempts to grab whatever anatomy of Varkos is showing nearest from among teh plant mess, grabs on and pulls.

"Hold off on that fire! It might burn our friend!" Zaf cries out quickly.

Realizing that even her successful attacks are basically ineffective against the shambling mound-thing, Zafalia drops her spear, grabs up some mistletoe out of her belt pouch and begins making the somatic gestures that will allow her to cast one of her cure light wounds spells. She will grab a hold of one of Varkos's legs or ankles to be able to cast the spell.

Cure Light Wounds spell [1d8] = 8

"You might not have to set it afire; only threaten it with the flames! We must do SOMETHING!" Ilhalevar replies.

Day 1 – 2:51 p
Round 4

.

Malak sneaks around the pillar to join Wulfgard.
Illhalevar suggests fire.

The ranger attempts to attack, but his spear can’t pierce the leafy hide this time around. Neither Odo, nor Al’Zur seem to be able to get past those leaves either. It’s tougher, more “armored” than it looks!!
As Rake tries to pull, the creature slides along the ground firmly holding Varkos. Trying to brace himself against it to pull again, he realizes that he’s just engulfing himself in swampy leafiness and stops.

Zafalia casts CLW and is able to touch Varkos’s ankles. It seems to work and sets both feet desperately kicking. Desperate and apparently futile!

The creature, other than Rake’s pulling, does not move.
Standing it looked like this:
Picture1.gif
Picture1.gif (48.01 KiB) Viewed 1438 times
Now it looks like a heap of slimy rotting leaves and vegetation.
For Round 5 don’t worry about initiative, the creature is in some sort of shut down mode. But it’s still considered prone and that gives everyone a +4 to hit so please factor that in when everyone states what actions they would like to do and does their corresponding rolls. It seems to all that you just can’t get past the tough “skin” of this creature, not that your weapons are being ineffective. Son of Thunder will get 2 attacks this round.

As soon as she casts her spell, Zafalia grabs up her spear and attempts to skewer the leafy menace, being mindful not to harm her trapped companion any more than he already is...

To Hit: Spear [1d20] = 19, Damage: vs sm/med sized creatures [1d6] = 6

"Alas, I do not, sister. All I have is my entangle spell. I had thought about what effect it would have on the beast but was worried that it would make Varkos's situation even worse. For lack of knowing anything better, we're just going to have to kill this thing to free our friend!"

OOC: dang, this little halfling is 3 for 4 with that spear! Wish I had the same luck with some of my other toons!

"Here," the thief says, poking at the leafy beast with his short sword. "Lemme at it" he says, fully confident he can be the one to end the parties trouble.

Short Sword (vs. l) [1d20-1] = 12-1 = 11 [1d8] = 7

A shocked look crosses his face as his efforts appear to be unsuccessful.

Ilhalevar shugs, "What the hell..." and swings her staff at it.

Melee Attack, Quarterstaff [1d20] = 13

Most likely to no avail...
