Heading Back To Beachtown
Godsday, The 9th of Goodmonth
Late Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy

The rangers continue firing on the men in the trees, with Alordan hitting the wounded man a second time. Luther jumps from the pile, heading towards the tree on the right, taking another bolt to his arm in the process. 2 dam

Lerrick darts up a tree near the uninjured crossbowman on the left, hoping to knock him from his precarious perch using her newfound tree climbing skills. A second bolt crashes off of Chauncey's magical barrier as he begins his sleeping incantation, aiming it at both of the aerial threats. Just in the nick of time, he spots Lerrick swinging through the trees on his left. Not happy about it in the least, the mage quickly adjusts the area of affect mid spell so he doesn't catch the climbing cleric as well.

Taking the brunt of the magic, the injured man instantly falls asleep Slowly leaning backwards, he eventually falls from his thick branch. He topples downward, hitting several branches on his way down before eventually splatting sickeningly on the jungle floor. Almost hitting Luther on the ground, he doesn't move again.

Lightfinger continues chasing the runner, wincing when he hears Monocar shouting out from behind him again. He wonders if the human will ever learn how bad of an idea that is. Keeping pace but not gaining on the man, the Halfling chances a look behind him to see how close Monocar is. He winces again when he sees the huge brute bumble himself into a covered shallow pit freshly dug in the middle of the trail. The pit is only a few feet deep, but it is filled with sharpened spikes. The spikes are all covered in some kind of smelly green substance that the fighter has never seen before. 3 spikes jam into the legs and feet of Monocar, causing him a great deal of pain and smearing his puncture wounds with the stinking goo. 9 dam and Save vs. Poison, please

Luther

Luther makes sure the crossbowman is dead, then collects his crossbow and any bolts he has left. He'll be hunkering down to try and find the other shooter as soon as he can.

As the cleric steadies herself above the unsuspected archer, she takes a big breath, then let's out slowly. Clutching the the vine with a tight grip, she leaps from her branch towards the foe. As she gathers speed from her swing, she lets out a blood curling scream aaaaaAAAAGGGHHHHHHHH!. With her feet thrust forward, she smash into the back of her target, with the intent of knocking the archer of his perch.

Lightfinger winced again.

Oh, I bet that hurts, He thinks and keeps pacing the runner. Even hearing a second scream, he intends to keep an eye on his quarry, but worries another pit trap could be waiting for him!

Luther

Luther sighs when he hears Monologue, then hurries toward where the big man disappeared. I should leave him to his own stupidity... I just hope he learns somethin'

He sticks to the edge of the trail, constantly scanning for trouble in the trees.

Hearing Monocar's cries, Chauncey calls back. "I did suggest we circumvent this obstacle, Monocar. I do hope you've learned an important lesson... Can someone help the brute while I prepare to incinerate this remaining fool brigand?" He begins cracking his knuckles and waggling his fingers.

Monocar continues to scream out in pain, trying to pull himself from the sharpened sticks poking through his feet and legs. Luther shakes his head at the young mans continuous racket, moving off carefully to help him if he can. The ranger sees no threats in the trees, but he does spot 2 more of the concealed pits along the trail, now that he is actually looking for them.

Before Chauncey can begin admonishing the cleric for getting in the way of his magic, Lerrick swings from one tree to the next, kicking the final perched smuggler square in his back, knocking him all the way to the ground. The 40 foot fall kills the man instantly before the mage gets a chance to finish him off. Alordan moves to the fallen enemy, looking up and smiling at their brave climbing cleric.

With all of the foes either running away or dead, Monocar's screaming is the only threat left to contend with at the barricade. Talaris moves up to join the others on the southern side of the log pile.

Lightfinger feels his right foot squish down a little on the trail in mid stride as he chases his target even further down the path. Now well ahead of the others, he wonders if he just escaped another pit trap. Again, he is able to keep pace with the human, running full stride behind him, but he isn't able to make up any ground on the sprinting smuggler. The ugly man risks a look behind him, spotting the halfling a short distance away. He lets a big grin cross his face as he continues to lead the way down the trail.

Yessssss!!! Lerrick screams in triumph. She grabs a nearby vine and gracefully descends the vine with head held high. Once reaching the ground she runs to meet the others.

Observing Lerrick's amazing feat of acrobatics and the fatal plunge of the bandit, Chauncey is stunned silent a moment be fore finally blurting out, "Well... I helped. I believe, Lerrick, that you actually kicked the miscreant into the lingering effects of my sleep incantation, thereby causing him to... well... you know.... Good work." he trails off. "At any rate, now they know we are coming. This was but an outpost. We cannot hope to defeat the main body on our own. We must come back another day. Will you heed my advice? I say we circumvent the path as we did on our approach and return to the settlement with all haste."

Lightfinger stops.

Oh, this is ever so not good, He thinks. It's quite obvious the pirate's comrades are close by, and he believes the Hobbit to be easy prey. But Artemis Backbrush knows a trap when he sees one! He will follow no more. He steps back and hacks the area he believes to be yet another pit, just enough to be certain and to mark its presence, then makes his way back toward his fellows, tho not at great speed. He's trying harder to be concealed now, and to keep an eye on his backtrail in case the remaining marauders indeed aren't laying in wait.

Luther

IF he can do so safely, Luther will move some of the camoflage from the pits to make them more visible for the others. He proceeds carefully to where Monocar is impaled to evaluate him and decide how best to get him out of the pit.

Enough, Monocar! We heard you.

Lightfinger remembers that he is smarter than Monocar, so he stops abruptly in his tracks and turns to rejoin the others. On his way back, he does indeed find another spiked pit in the center of the trail that he marks.

Luther points out a couple more of them near the pile, marking them as well so nobody else falls into one. Monocar calms down long enough to pull his feet from the spikes. The pain is bad but the man-boy's screaming is worse.

Lerrick beams with pride, glad to be able to help her fellow combatants.

Once everyone is together again, Talaris walks up to Luther and casts a prayer of healing over the burly human. healed 3 He then looks to Monocar and speaks. "Would you like aid as well, or maybe if we keep you injured a little, you will be less likely to run off into trouble? Oh, who am I kidding? That wont help!" He casts his last heal upon the bumbling human. healed 5

Chauncey gathers the group together again, urging everyone to see the simple fact that the smugglers know that they are coming. He suggest slogging through the jungle to the beach, in order to bypass their numbers completely. The wizard knows travel through the bush wont be easier, but it should be much safer, and still allow them enough daylight to get back to town.

Luther

Luther scowls at Chauncey. I never been one to run from a fight... but you're right, wizard. We're just beggin' for the Fool Killer to take us all.

When everyone is ready to travel, Luther will lead the way, breaking trail and marking blazes on trees as he goes.

Alordan searches the bodies before departing. He considers a burial but realizes they just don't have the time. He'll cover the trail of where they have been and where they enter the jungle.
