Chapter 1: So it begins.
Re: Chapter 1: So it begins.
Humfrey speaks up, "I think I found something. Some of this brush looks like it has been moves recently."
Humfrey leads the way over to where the trail bends north. Behind the brush is a natural crack in the limestone. Roughly 3 feet high and 6 feet wide, the air coming out feels damp. It slopes up about 3 foot in 15 feet. Examining the brush you see half of a large foot print, similar to what you found by the river at the village.
Actions?
Humfrey search roll [4d6] = 9

Ingvar
"Well then. We have found a way in, let's see if the beast is home!"
He starts fiddling with flint, steel and tinder to get a torch lit.
Proposed action: go in, single file, marching order as before.

Re: Chapter 1: So it begins.
With the entrance only 3 feet high, everyone is going to need to crawl. Humfrey's cat refuses to even get near the entrance, even with coaxing. The cave floor slowly slopes up as you crawl in. You also notice that as you the ceiling is slowly getting higher. At about the 20 feet in mark the ceiling has reached 5 foot, by the 40 foot mark the floor is now about 5 feet higher than the opening and the ceiling has reached a full 7 feet.
Just then a explosion of bats rush from the cavern in front of you out the tunnel you just crawled through.
Beyond is a natural cavern, with some irregularities around the edges. Another 10 feet and it opens into a natural limestone cavern, roughly 65 feet long (straight ahead of you) and maybe 25 feet wide at its most, the ceiling in here varies from 10 to 12 feet high. The floor of the cavern is highest at the entrance where you currently stand, it slopes down away from you, being perhaps 6 feet lower at the far end. There is also a 10 foot diameter sinkhole in the center of the cave. Piles of stone rubble litter the floor in places and it is damp and dank, with moisture dripping in places along the walls.
The cavern appears empty of inhabitants at the moment.

Surveying the cavern, Rodbert weighs options. He speaks in a low voice, "Earnest. Light a torch. Move around to the right and see if you note any footprints or scuffing. Ingvar? Sheamus? Should we split to two sides to investigate and then look towards the sinkhole? That creature has to come from somewhere. That pool of water you saw earlier must be further ahead somewhere." Rodbert begins a spell then halts, shaking his head. "Not yet...."

Sheamus speaks up "Well it may help if i could see I didn't bring any torches with me. And it's fun squeezing in these small spaces being as big as I am. Maybe some of the shorter of us should do the investigating."

Re: Chapter 1: So it begins.
Ingvar uses his torch to light Earnest's, then digs out another one, lights it up and hands it to Sheamus.
"I will search this side."
He starts walking toward the opposite end, following the left wall of the cave.
Any other openings than the sinkhole? How about the ceiling?

Re: Chapter 1: So it begins.
Here is a map. Scale is not 1mm = 1 foot since I zoomed in to make it bigger, you can use the scale in the corner though and it works fine. +# with nothing over it is the elevation of the floor. a # with something over it is the ceiling height, the shape over the number represents the general shape of the ceiling.
Earnest is moving right with a torch. Humfrey moves right with Earnest, holding his lit lantern. Ingvar and Solvi are moving left with 2 torches. Sheamus, his follower and Rodbert are in the area of the +5 and +0 on the left end of the cave. Sheamus has a lit torch.
If I have anything wrong, you have further actions or you want to change something let me know. If I don't hear back by latter tonight I will update with the results of your search.
Please post a 1d20 roll for you and your follower.

Rodbert: [1d20] = 18
Earnest: [1d20] = 10
Rodbert will move to the right a bit more and keep an eye on the tunnel they just came in through.
(Never knowing about rolling high or low is always a stresser in situations like this)

Sheamus moves forward and to the left of the sinkhole stopping when he is about the same distance as the sinkhole but keeping a good 15 feet between him and the sinkhole.
Sheamus[1d20] = 5 , Not Sheamus [1d20] = 2

Re: Chapter 1: So it begins.
As Ingvar and Solvi begin to move left; Earnest and Humfrey start right. As they come even with the hole, Sheamus drops his torch and starts walking with purpose straight towards the hole.
The closest to Sheamus are his follower and Rodbert, no one else can reach him before he walks into the hole.

Re: Chapter 1: So it begins.
Not Sheamus aka Cedric tries to stop Sheamus before he falls down the sinkhole.

Re: Chapter 1: So it begins.
For a brief moment, Ingvar is frozen, watching Sheamus progressing forward with a look of incomprehension. He then dashes towards the sinkhole, with spear in one hand and his torch in the other. "What are you doing, man!?"
If Sheamus goes in, he will approach close enough to see inside and will jump in if the bottom is closer than 10 ft and solid ground. If Sheamus is stopped, he will not jump in.
Just in case

Re: Chapter 1: So it begins.
If there is enough time, Rodbert will drop his sword and rush Sheamus, trying to grab him and take him towards the left wall, tackling him if needed.

Re: Chapter 1: So it begins.
Cedric and Rodbert both lunge for Sheamus, Cedric missing and Rodbert tackling him just before he reaches the pit. Ingvar starts towards the pit. Suddenly Humfrey screams "SOLVI!" a second to late as a huge form seems to coalesce from the wall behind her, grabs her head in its massive hands and twists dropping her now lifeless body to the ground as it continues moving towards the pit. Sheamus is still struggling to drag himself to the pit.
The demon/creature is nearly 7 feet tall and massive in size. Its skin appears to move like rubber but has the texture of stone. Its coloration changes and shifts like a chameleons. It is missing its right eye and 2 fingers on its left hand. It was strong enough to twist Solvi's head around so she now faces the wrong way.

Map with every ones location. S/R is Sheamus and Rodbert struggling together on the ground. C is Cedric, I is Ingvar, D is the Demon, S near the D is Solvi's body. H is Humfrey and E is Earnest. See other comments on the OOC thread.
