Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
Pocc watches and waits to see what happens while his ettin snake curls around one of his arms he asks "What do you think Roger and Gaston?"

Alderhay follows the others across
Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
Zoggrot scans the thick planks (the jetty not the party), finding nothing insidious about the gap. It is strong enough to take his weight though bends with a creak in the middle as he passes. The plank spans the 10ft gap above the seawater which is about twice that distance below. The wooden frame holding up the jetty is covered in soggy masses of stinking kelp strands and blossoming vine fronds. The rotten fish smell mirroring an equally pungent waft from the ship.
Zoggrot gets safely across, quickly followed by Goldie. Alderhay follows suit with shaman Iggway a step or two behind. He scans for the odd and out of place. Unfortunately it is the seemingly normal that trips him up. Literally!
A vine like noose seems to snare his ankle and Alderhay trips though he lands flat on his face hugging the plank. The 'seaweed' begins a 'tug of war' with his leg as it attempts to pull him down and into the snapping maw of a large giant cabbage like head which slowly emerges from the kelp mass.
Attack [1d6] = 3 [2d6] = 10
Old Plighty leans over the rails and notices that several more long fronds and vine are inching slowly up the jetty frame behind you. He tries to hobble away but the creeping vines follow his foot and clubsteps. Geoffrey stabs with his longsword but more seaweed creeps under the jetty sprouting finger like tendrils between loosened planks.
Gaston intones a hissing 'augury' and determines (in good old Gerry Anderson fashion ...) "anything can happen in the next half hour".
next actions for your character please

Alderhay draws his short sword and tries to cut the 'vine' around his leg.
Short Sword: to-hit [1d20] = 7, dmg [1d6] = 4

Fenis
Fenis will step up behind Alderhay and starts cutting the seaweed with his axe.
Axe [1d20] = 17 to hit [1d6] = 2 damage

Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
Siggard motions for Gin to step back away from the tentacles as the mage holds up a looped leather strand and starts an incantation.
In mere seconds, he starts to rise up off of the surface of the jetty with a smirk upon his chiseled, half-elven face.
(casts: Levitate)
If Gin VdP needs to defend himself against the oncoming monster, he does so.
VdP Attack Roll [1d20] = 17

Bello
Quite accustomed to escaping from delicate situations, Bello leaps the gap and tries to land on the other side of the gap. He pulls his longsword and starts hacking at nearby vines.
Jump: [3d6] = 10
Longsword: [1d20] = 14
Damage: S/M: [1d8] = 4 L: [1d12] = 1

"Well now, that's interesting." Stubble said. He drew his short sword and went for the nearest vine.
Short Sword to hit: [1d20] = 18, damage [1d6] = 5

Rexling & Fishy
Fire! he says as he retrains his aim on the Cabbage Monster.
Rexlin:
To Hit [1d20-1] = 13-1 = 12 Dmg [2d6] = 7
Fishy:
To Hit [1d20-1] = 12-1 = 11 Dmg [2d6] = 8+[1d4] = 4

Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
Siggard winces after the cacophony of gunfire on their supposedly secret boarding of the derelict ship.
Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
Iggway’s chanting switches over to a repetitive prayer, spinning around, holding the ecdysis of her most beloved snake in the air, she casts Bless on the group.....
Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
Zoggrot hacks at any part of the vine thing he can reach.
Cutlass (THAC0 20): [1d20+1] = 14+1 = 15. Dmg: [1d6+3] = 1+3 = 4/[1d8+3] = 7+3 = 10 (SM/L)

Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
Zoggrot, Goldie and the spring heeled Ferrol 'Bello' draw blades and cut through any seaweed vine snares and kelpie fingers that linger around the far edge of the jetty gap. Alderhay struggles on the plank to cut through the snare wrapped around his ankle and tugging him off the plank. Fenis reacts first, stepping onto the plank and hacking the vine (and thankfully not a leg), freeing the snared 1/2 elf. Quick to his feet, Alderhay dextrously jumps to the far side, rolling away from danger.
On the near side, shaman Iggway intones a blessing. Those gathered close by feel the encouragement and are empowered with a truer aim in combat. Rexlin and Fishy demonstrate what splashing out 440gp on guns gets you. Their muskets shred the cabbage like head of the strangleweed which spurts an inky green ichor and slowly submerges below the normal kelp. Fenis demonstrates what splashing out on chainmail gets you. Encumbered and unbalanced on the plank, he falls off, sploshing like a brick. His weight and shield splatting more ichor mass before the 1/2 orc sinks below the surface, leaving only a trail of bubbles behind. The bridge plank duly follows him into the water.
Geoffrey, Pocc, Stubble and Old Plighty dodge grasping tendrils that lift up loosened planks. Van de Poel zaps one seaweed arm with his golem spear, an arc of blue electricity frying the weed into a burnt crisp.
The second strangleweed flails its vines as gripping fingers are severed. It reacts by breaking the last two planks on the edge of the near side from under the feet of the party. Luckily the group are able to step away in time. The gap widens to about 14'ft, now. The jetty is about 15'ft wide so using another plank may bridge the gap if it can be secured. The alternative of a running jump doesn't look as easy to achieve. (4d6 instead of 3d6 vs dex). The weed mass below moves slowly, undulating between the wooden pillars which hold up the jetty. The long seaweed arms and vines reach to the jetty above but that seems to be the limit of their reach. Unable to grasp a victim from above it senses some thrashing in the waters below and wriggles in that direction.
Siggard avoids the hassle and combat by levitating above the crowd and with a leap from the jetty rail, secures a grasp on the wooden ribs which circle the galleon. He casually floats up the prow and takes a sneaky look over the forecastle. Sensing no dangers, Siggard settles like a silent butterfly on the deck. He 'tuts' as the night silence is broken by the retort of firearms which scares into flight a few dark birds roosting on the rails. The forecastle is crenelated but broken in places. Scratched graffiti and splinters abound the deck. You notice there is a carved figurehead under the bowsprit leaning over the water. The figure looks disfigured and vandalised also. Some small bronzed cannon barrels lie amid the ruins of broken frames. Several pieces of thick mouldy sail, still attached to spars and frayed ropes covers the deck. From underneath a mangy giant rat appears, running by your feet and down some wooden stairs. It carries a severed hand between its jaws like a newly won trophy. As the ship bobs with the tide two more bulky shapes come hurrying straight for your feet whilst trying to remain hidden under the sailcloth, their humps giving the impression of mice scampering under a carpet; only bigger, much bigger.
The circling dark feathered birds return to perch on the stricken vessel and watch the mage and the party progress warily with beady eyes.
okay, so post an action for your character please. Fenis I will post in your private forum. I hope to post the next update by Wednesday evening if possible. cheers.

Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
Alderhay comes out of his roll alert and ready, scanning this end of the jetty for any more danger. Seeing the half-orc fall into the water he looks around for something that might assist in fishing him out or bridging the gap in the jetty.
Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
"Help me get two of these." Stubble said. "We can secure them with blades."

Re: Exploring the 'Guineaman'.
Siggard rises from the deck again, hoping to avoid whatever is coming at him from under the fallen sail. He will use his magic if he must, but for now he would rather see what the threat is first.
He tries to read the graffiti scrawled about the place, eventually pulling his floating self towards the prow of the vessel so he can check the carving on the bowsprit there.
