The lone man sounds human and appears to be dressed in light leathers.

He is still too far away to get a good look at him through the branches though.

You could always wait around for a better look. He is approaching you and obviously knows you're there.

Galanthas makes a quick dismissive gesture with his hand We're fine and in a hurry, but thank you! and keeps walking, looking at the man out of the corner of his eye.

Wes

The druid follows along after Galanthas, smiling and giving the man a brief wave. He scans the bushes for signs of any of the man's friends. He makes sure to turn his head to get a good view of the area behind them as they move along.

On The River Trail
Godsday, 9th of Goodmonth
Late Morning, Warm, Humid

The human stranger continues walking up the trail towards the adventurers, shouting out his words now for everyone and anyone to hear.

"HEY! I JUST WANT TO TALK! I DONT MEAN YOU NO HARM!!!"

Actions?

Wes 19/34 6/6 first 1/4 second 3/3 third
Galanthas 9/12 1/1 first

I should set this up a little better.

You moved into the jungle before reaching the river. I didn't get an exact distance traveled from either of you, so I rolled that randomly, as usual.

That puts you somewhere on the river trail in between the first burned out village that Wes remembers and the Azure Sea.

viewtopic.php?f=446&t=6346#p316912

The man is coming towards you from the south (seaside) portion of the trail. So, if you want to walk "away" from him, that would mean either going north, further up the trail and away from Beachtown, or moving back into the thick jungle.

I will need to know which direction you intend to head if you are trying to evade this person.

Thanks!

(I hope that is all clear enough)

Wes

Sensing that the man is up to no good, Wes invokes the power of Obad Hai to cause the vegetation to entangle him before the man can block their path. He centers his spell so that it will not impede or block the path that he and Galanthas are travelling.

Yup, clear enough!

So Galanthas goes south along with Wes and the baby, as long as the man is entangled by Wes' spell.

In the 18 seconds that it takes Wes to get his spell off, the man figures out what is happening. The look of terror on his face is obvious as he takes off into the jungle. He reaches into his shirt as he flees.

The druid adjusts his spells area to accommodate for the movement and sticks the stranger right where he is, entwined with massive amounts of varying jungle vegetation. Unfortunately, just as the man is stopped in his tracks, he begins blowing on some type of whistling device, sending a shrill sound into the air with surprising volume.

The two males and a baby see the man is well stuck, giving them free passage past him down the trail again.

Wes

Once the whistle starts to sound, Wes follows Galanthas, knowing that his elven companion will exit the area as rapidly as he can.

"I hope we won't run into any more of theses fellas," he says. "But I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt from now on".

Just in case, Galanthas takes his bow in one han and starts to touch an arrow from his quiver, without actually grabbing it... yet. His goal is to get out of the place as quick as he can, but wary of what can happen.

Yes, let's keep walking and hope they don't get that quickly here. It seems every corner of this place is full of perils. I wonder how beasts and bandits aren't killing each other.

Racing past the whistling smuggler, Wes gets a better look. He doesn't recognize him personally, but he is now certain that he must be one of Bings men.

The whistling doesn't stop, nor does the crying from the baby. She has periods of silence now and again, when she becomes so exhausted she cant continue, but as soon as her strength returns, the wail from the infant becomes louder than ever.

At a steady trot down the trail, it doesn't take the pair long to reach the sandy beach again. They don't see any hazards and there is no repercussion from the whistling coming from behind them.

Beachtown lies just a few hours hike to the west.

Wes

Wes slaps Galanthas on the shoulder in anticipation of a job well done. "I feel a little more secure now", he confesses. "Though I suppose we should keep moving as fast as we can. That fella might just bring his friends along to follow us".

Wes starts to head up the beach, still following Galanthas and keeping a regular check for anybody following them. He suggests the usual routine of staying fairly close, but not too close, to the treeline as they move along.

"After all this, I hope this is the right bloody baby", he says after a while. "I hope we don't hand it over and the mother says 'I've never seen her before in my life'"

Galanthas laughs at Wes' last comment. This baby looks strange anyway. She may have been cursed by the hag or maybe she's not a regular baby... I hope we are not bringing a wicked demon into the town. He keeps walking along the path and relatively close to the forest, as advised by his friend and says a last comment: She won't stop crying anyway... Let's get to town as soon as possible... I don't know how to deal with babies.

On The Beach Trail

Keeping to the hard packed trail near the tree line, the pair make good progress, quickly leaving the worries of the river trail behind them. They don't spot any pursuit coming from behind them as they walk. With some trepidation, they hurry towards town, hoping this baby is who they think it is.

After about an hours travel, the keen eyes of the elf spot a few of the furry tree people watching them from the high branches of the trees along the beach. Before long, both men spot a few more of the phanaton, watching them intently as they approach. The tree dwellers don't climb down from their high perches, but they do seem to be pointing and gesticulating towards the wailing baby a lot.

Wes

"Randall at the tavern likes to tell stories about how the monkoons kidnap babies", Wes tells Galanthas. "I very much doubt it's true. I've spoken to them and they are intelligent folk. They are probably just wondering why we so far from town with a crying baby".

Wes waves at the treefolk, hoping that they will keep their distance nevertheless. Even if they aren't hostile, he's looking forward to getting back to town, and a few cups of grog, as quickly as possible.

Galanthas waves his hand to the Phanaton in turn but, like Wes, he is in a hurry to get back to town, get rid of the baby with the hope they'll find her parents and she's a true human baby and not some kind of incubus.

Yes... Let's keep our distance. I've already sore muscles and would thank a bit of quite and food this evening.

The friendly waves are not returned.

A few of the tree folk swing lower to the ground as the pair approach their position. You see dozens of them in the trees now, most of them screeching along with the baby and bouncing on their branches.

Just as the two groups are about to unite, another much louder screech is heard overhead. In the blink of an eye, the tree folk silently disappear into the foliage.

The screeching grows louder and you suddenly spot the silhouette of a large avian creature flying at you from the northeast, staying just above the treetops.

Wes

"It's Pterry! Run for the trees!" calls Wes, and starts to do exactly that. Knowing that the monkoons are nearby and might not be friendly, he doesn't go too far in at first. He ducks behind a tree about twenty feet past the treeline and waits to see if it really is Pterry.

Galanthas also runs for it to take cover among the trees, trying to grab the basket so it doesn't fall onto the sand with the baby in it. He tries to find a good spot asking the bushes and close to the trees, as close as Wes as he can get.

The pair of travelers hits the tree line once they see the shadow of the flying monster. Hearing more of its squawks as it circles overhead, the two stay right where they are initially.

Soon they are joined by several of the treefolk, hiding in the trees alongside of them. They motion for the two to be quiet at first, but then seem to get a bit more agitated.

Eventually Pterry lands upon the sand, just a few feet away from the trees. He roars into the underbrush several times, certain that something tasty must be waiting in there somewhere.

A few of the monkoons motion for Galanthas to hand them the baby while several others point towards the screeching monster, trying to get the men to go out to interact with the creature, who is starting to poke its long snout into the underbrush.
