Kelben having stocked up on more arrows and a spare bow agrees with Sky "Yeah I suppose we will have to see where these more natural passages lead after all we still haven't located the missing kids or the tree and it's keeper."

Apologies, guys. I'm going to blame the strange shaddowing in the northern room, but there is an extra door leading out of the room Klilxuac, Hargrem, and Elky investigated.

So, there's that, and it also appears as if rift can also be explored.


New Exit
The shadows previously played tricks on your DMs eyes, but a new investigation of the weapons room reveals a new exit. It's a simple wooden door without any lock.

Empty Room
"Hey, over here! I found a door!" Sky purrs with delight after finding a hidden door in the weapon room. The door, which was untrapped and unlocked, opens into a small, 10-foot square room that is empty except for some small cobwebs in the corners along the ceiling, and some slightly larger-than-human footprint impressions left in the dusty floor. These prints appear to, at one time or another, to have gone in both directions through this tiny area.

On the opposite wall is another simple wooden door without any lock.

A hint of light from the room on the other side can be seen from the top and bottom of the door frame.

Sky watches the glaive slice inches over the head of Kelben. "Guess he thought you would be taller." she laughs.
Initiative: [1d20+4] = 13+4 = 17
Sky casts sleep, positioned on the wall behind the bugbear. I don't know if you want me to roll the sleep dice. I like the suspense when you do it. :D
Sky enters the room, moves to Kelben's left, the north. She starts singing a familiar lullaby.

I will roll. However, there is a potentially important question that I don't want to just assume the answer to:
  • Are you casting Sleep using a 1st or 2nd-level spell slot?


The difference being 5d8 vs 7d8 hit points of creature this spell will affect.

Round 1
Erky remains safely positioned outside the adjoining room, and chuckles weakly as Sky cracks a joke about the height of his fellow gnome. At almost the same time, the wise-cracking feline begins to wave her paws in a rhythmic pattern and purr a melodious lullaby. The eyes of the party's assailant begin to grow heavy, but the giant bugbear appears to shrug off the effects of the bard's spell.

Klilxuac enters the room, shifting slightly to the right, and fires off a mote of flame in the bugbear's direction, which lands on the creatures hide armor which momentarily flashes brightly...

... but the looming beast roars with laughter as he snuffs out the feeble flame sent in his direction. "Fomok will make you pay!" it grunts in a guttural voice, in an understood common dialect. The hulking beast surveys the attackers in his immediate vicinity, and in a perfect demonstration of its power and capabilities, thrusts the sickle end of its long-reaching glaive into the soft flesh of Sky's gut! (-22) The bard feels an intense pain as she feels the curved blade slicing through the layers of her abdomen before ultimately succumbing to the overwhelming pain and collapsing into the corner of the new battlefield. "See, Fomok told you so!"

Kelben, looking to create a space for Hargrem, slides to his left, around the fallen form of Sky, and fires an arrow at close distance. His projectile sticks into the creatures hide armor, but then falls harmlessly to the floor, seemingly without inflicting any harm.

Hargrem takes advantage of the newly vacated space, and without entering the room, reaches into it and grabs Sky by a scruff of her hair, dragging her back into the relative safety of empty room behind the action. There, he casts 'Spare the Dying' on the bard, stabilizing her.

Round 2
Erky, witnessing Sky's innards spilling out as Hargrem pulls the fallen bard back away from the combat, remains safely in place two rooms away. "Lemme know if there's some way I can help," the gnome offers.

Klilxuac draws upon the chaotic energies swirling through this underground system and sends three bolts of flame streaking toward their terrifying foe. With a flash, the first bolt, guided by the mystifying chaotic power of the sorcerer, strikes true, blasting the bugbear in the right shoulder, the force of which causes the creature to reel momentarily... but this reaction causes the second and third bolts to sail harmlessly overhead.

Fomok, the bugbear, releases a powerful roar, fueled by a combination of pain and anger, and repeats his combat power and efficiency as his jab at Kelben with his long glaive slices deep into the right thigh of the rogue! (-16)

The gnome shifts his weight from his injured thigh and manages to fight off the pain; retaliating by sticking a well-placed arrow into the bugbear's other shoulder, illiciting another intimidating roar!

Hargrem, from the safety of the adjoining room, hears Kelben react from, by the sounds of it, another powerful strike -- followed by a roar from the monstrous bugbear. The cleric calls upon the powers of Tymora and gently places his hands on Sky. A blue burst of healing energy transfers from the cleric to the bard as those prayers are answered. (+8) The tabaxi scampers to her feet and licks her wounds while considering her next actions.

Looking to restore some health to the gnomish companion still engaged in battle, Hargrem peers around the corner and, focusing on the gash on the rogue's thigh, sends a soothing spray of healing energy in Kelben's direction. (+6)

Fomok begins to stagger noticeably, and you observe him briefly releasing the grip on his glaive with one hand and pat a pouch dangling from a belt he's wearing.

Sky bolts upright gasping for air. "That sucks! And ow!" She directs her attention to the fight and quickly pulls out a bit of fleece from her pouch. She starts softly singing the ballad of all con men everywhere. "So, don't ask me no questions/And I won't tell you no lies"
Sky casts Phantasmal Force. She creates an illusion of herself that races into the room at top speed and grabs the pouch off Fomok.
