So... we've got Shmehk and Aurs. I know Wintermute is busy, but any plans for Raamiz or Saal?

Saal will right himself up and attempt to find a hiding place to lick his wounds and gain an advantage

Initiative: [1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5

Hide in Shadows [1d20+5] = 17+5 = 22

Welcome back!

Ok, to get onto the automaton, roll init, and make a DC 10 strength check. We can say that you can climb up the number of feet of your check, to get a sense of where you get to (probably somewhere on the leg, this round)

What kind of weak spot are you imagining? You don't have the find traps skill I was using to evaluate it, though you can try that unskilled. You can also just pick a thing you think might work, like messing with a joint or whatever, and roll that as a mighty deed.

For this round, though, your "action" would be the climbing...

Round 5

Shmehk catches his breath over by the landing, while the others continue to do battle with the automaton!

Discretion being the better part of valor, Saal slips into the shadows in this dimly lit laboratory. Meanwhile, Hlalf grabs on to the automaton, and climb's up to its knee. The automaton attempts to smash him, but Hlalf is able to stay out of the giant's grasp!

Aurs, thinking better of drinking the potion, moves to attack the giant automaton. His blow hits the thing, bending some of the metal in its foot (3 damage).

This brings the total damage suffered by the thing up to 16. You guys are not really putting a lot of pressure on it... with only one attack launched on it, this round. Hopefully, some of these special plans will bear fruit soon :)
For good or bad, the automaton is going to continue trying to swat at Hlalf, who is climbing on it. It has an initiative of 17, but it's attack (early in the init order) will miss!

Shmehk

Initiative: [1d20+1] = 12+1 = 13

Forget to compensate for his current agility modifier which is 0, so his init is 12

He moves to the doorway, but doesn't enter the lab.

He offers up a sliver of his soul to regain the ability to cast Force Manipulation

Spellburn 1 point of agility

Shmehk casts Force Manipulation:

Spell Check (d20): [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22

WOOT!

Two fields of force appear in the room, the size of tower shields.

Hopefully I can place them well enough to be of use in the fight, perhaps even try and hem in the automaton? I was going to conjure a globe and do damage, but changed my mind, thinking this would be more useful. If it's not going to be able to place these effectively, then I would go back to causing damage.

Spell duration: [2d6] = 7 rounds

If you could position the force shields near its hands you may be able to hinder its attacks.

Init: [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22
To hit with javelin: [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20, Damage: [1d6-1] = 3-1 = 2, Deed: [1d3] = 2
Strength Test: [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21

Hlalf hoists himself up with surprising speed for his size.

Is that 2 points of fleeting luck? I had planned on tossing a javalin into its knee joint and rolled for that and an immobilize mighty deed, but then read your post more carefully realized that will have to wait until next round. I included the roll I made prematurely here, so it can be used next round if you like. Sorry.

The force shields provide +4 ac to those adjacent to them. I was just wondering if they could be used to hinder the creatures movement options in the cluttered lab if I placed them in certain positions (difficult to tell with no map).

Here's a map... the little shelf is along the wall, and he is near the "2" at this point.

You could probably block him out of one end of the room with the force shields...

Thanks, blocking the thing from accessing the back of the lab sounds like it would be useful, at least provide a sanctuary. Can they be placed high enough so that the shrunken folk can run underneath? Would arranging them in such a way allow the small folk to take advantage of the protection of the shields, but not hinder their attacks?

Ranged attacks, sure... I think it's hard to imagine whacking on the giant's foot with a giant sized shield in between you...

Actually, if it's like a shield, you could basically screen foot- level from attacks from above...

that's what I was visualising, if it was like a shield floating a foot or so off the ground, then the small folks could dart under it, but attacks from the automaton would be hindered by it because they would be coming down from above.

Sounds good.

Wintermute, we'll replace my roll for your climb with yours, which will give you the one fleeting luck, then in this holding round, you can do the attack. Your init roll, though, doesn't give you a fleeting luck. You don't benefit from the force shields, since you are not down "under" them.

Shaidar, Shmehk gets a fleeting luck for that spell, too.

Saal, Raamiz and Aurs are all able to be protected. Is Aurs thinking about drinking now, or staying small under the shield?

I may have missed something. Are we all tiny again?
Also, are those holes deep or just curved indentations? I was imagining them as valleys, but the image is black like holes.

Are those shields normal sized or relative to us? If they are big and can be angled can we run up to hit the thing in the face?

AB, you are all still tiny. You thought about, but did not drink, a growing potion.

The shields are walls of force that are fixed and provide an ac bonus to pcs next to them. They are regular sized, and they can cover you from attacks from above.

The holes are about the size and depth of a big, round shield, if you were regular size.

Saal tries to throw his grappling hook into a niche within the robot's armor from a shadowed corner, hoping to find hold to either climb up or bring the creature toppling down.

ranged attack [1d20+2] = 16+2 = 18

I don't know if doing this from the shadows confers my +1 backstab bonus, but it is an 18 either way.

Saal shouts desperately towards Aurs and Hlalf:

"I have found purchase! Come, help me topple the metal demon!"

Saal begins to tug the rope taught, awaiting a response.

Sorry I'm a little mixed up. Do you need another initiative roll from me for the round I will attack in, or are we not there yet? Also I assume I climbed fairly high since the shields won't help me.

You're fine... we were just waiting on most everyone else... :) And yeah, with you up high, you're not protected by these shields that are protecting the people on the ground.
