IC II
Re: IC II
Bregalad the elf
As Bregalad tends to his horse, he listens to the quarrel between Quinthos and the party. His heart is close to bursting, torn between his desire to help Quinthos and loyalty to his friends.
He approaches the magic-user privately, when the argument has dissapated. "Drudsa, how would you feel if your family was dying, your loved ones raped? And you could stop it, but instead you are convinced to wait, day after day, as the only group willing to help you decides it is more important to play in games, look for other missions more interesting to them, and hoard their treasure? How would you act?"

"Are we playing games Bregalad? I don't see anyone making fun of the situation or of the things we have been doing in these caves. On the contrary, two of our companions were very seriously injured. Had I been in Quinthos place, having agreed to wait for the other matters the group had to attend to I would certainly be in deep anguish just like he clearly is. I would probably be similarly emotional, what I would not do is to offend the only people who volunteered to assist me by calling them mercenaries and criminals. In all honesty, if this matter with the ogres was not as grave as it is I would have turned my back at him. It is a dire situation, though, and getting carried away in emotions will not help us overcome the ogres. It will be difficult for him to leave his feelings aside, but it shouldn't be for us. If we do want to help him and his people we must keep our nerves on check, don't you think?"
Re: IC II
Bregalad the elf
"You misunerstand me. By games I meant the festivities of the gnomish caravan. Quinthos waited while we played and shopped. I take no offense from his words. Nay, it has awakened me from my slumber. The right thing to do is not wait another day in helping his village."

Re: IC II
Saul listens to all this quietly but eventually he can't hold it in any longer.
"Drudsa, I appreciate your potion but I won't delay us any further."
He means no ill will towards his friend but his tone is harsh, it's target clear.
"Apologies are easy to dispense, Quinthos, but the fact remains that we are doing our best to help everyone we can and, as I see it, we're getting nothing out of it but trinkets to fund our efforts and insults.
Could we have been faster in getting here in the first place? No, we could not. We needed to wait until we could have potions, equipment and the training to use it. I'd apologize if we did not mourn for your situation but rather gamed while you did so but your's is not our problem. You want to talk about problems? How about the fact I was under the influence of something that required an exorcism?
Did we stay here longer than you'd like? Perhaps you wish to fight with a troll? Oh, I'm so distracted, must be the blood loss from the fashionable scars it gave me as a gift, I forgot we just had a hard time KILLING THE BLOODY THING!"
He nearly swallows the elf as he says he last words. He's close enough to his face to at least take a bite out of his ears. He certainly doesn't lack the will to do so.
"Ask yourself this: If you need our help and we just got beat up can you imagine what kind of danger we've been through?
Imagine the lives we saved! Who's to say that thing wouldn't just leave after we killed it's buddies and made it's way to the surface in search of food... it might even find it's way back to your precious village.
We are going to help your village but don't you expect any help from me."
He takes a few steps back towards Castanha, feeds her an apple, takes a few deep breaths and says to the party:
"I say we leave him here and head straight to the village, I'm sure they will help Jake."
Saul will not hear any other words from Quinthos, mind his will or direct any attention to him if he is to follow them. Whatever the group decides is fine with him regarding this mission and he bears no ill will towards the elves in the village.
He will rest when he has a chance and not be the cause of any delay or waste any potions.

Marodin the Cleric will attempt to quell the fight between the party and Quinthos.
"Friends, let's not squabble amongst ourselves. We have won a mighty victory today and we should be rejoicing. Don't worry about the health of our doughty party of troll-slayers. I can heal someone right now with the power of the Immortals, and a good night's rest, followed by another blessing of healing from the Gods should return us to full strength. Let's be off with no more delay. The treasure we've won today is light and easy to carry. No need to return home just yet."
Marodin will cast Cure Light Wounds on Saul.

"I understand the distress you feel for your village, Quinthos... My only reason for wanting to return to Threshold was to get some new information that we found in the caves to the authorities there... but the information is not immediately useable, so it can wait. But your village can not. So let us be off."
Lanny takes a look at the overland map.
"We would appreciate your guidance, of course, as we are unfamiliar with the route."

Drudsa the dabbler
"Right, so it looks like we have taken everything we had off our chests. Some harsh words here and there but in the end it is probably better that we all say what we think rather than we keep it for ourselves."
"Let us then move if we are all ready. Quinthos, can you lead the way to that village you mentioned?"

The companions mount and head north, following Quinthos' lead. At first it does not appear they are following a trail -- or at least nothing larger than a game trail -- but eventually it widens and turns into a recognizable, if old and rarely used, trail. The grassy hills soon turn into a rolling forest, which the adventurers travel the edge of for some four or five miles before making their ascent into the mountains.
The rest of the trip is uneventful, and the party arrives at the small town of Eagle's Nest shortly after dark. There is, as Quinthos promised an inn, though it is small and rather poorly maintained. But hot food and beds are available for a modest price, and everyone seems decent and slightly in awe of the travelers.. The common room is filled mostly with locals; a mix of humans and dwarves eat or drink their suppers while listening to a man in a stained red jerkin pluck out a ballad on his harp.

Saul nods his head to the patrons in respect, asks for a hot meal and a room and, if anyone else is eating as well, he will sit with them in silence unless spoken to. As soon as he is done he will excuse himself.thirdkingdom wrote:The companions mount and head north, following Quinthos' lead. Lanny the elf
The day's events have worn him down, but Lanny takes time to join the locals in the common room to listen to the harp music for a little while before turning in for the night. He redresses the wound from the gecko lizard with some fresh bandages and lies awake for a long time, thinking about all the things that the group has accomplished thus far, and how much his own skills have developed in such a short time... He vows to himself to apply those new skills in the party's new quest to help their elven friend in need...

Tratiln, for one, is happy the day is over. It has been long and hard, between geckos, a troll, and an angry elf! However, he is glad that he will get to sleep in a bed tonight instead of just a bedroll. He is a bit disappointed it is a little later than he would have liked, since there will be no time for studying his new spell. After enjoying a hot meal with his companions, Tratiln will head off to his room for a night's sleep.
Re: IC II
Bregalad the elf
Bregalad enjoys a meal and the hospitality of the villagers. He especially listens to the dwarves, hoping to hear that one of them has been to Rockhome. He wishes to learn more of that kingdom.
After his meal, the elf will sit outside for awhile, breathing deep of the forest air, and then retire to bed.

The innkeeper snorts at Meagnor's questions. "Sages and weapon stores! Look, sir, this is just a small village. You need basic supplies -- rope, lantern oil or the like -- you can go to the general store in the morning. That's about all we can do, though. The blacksmith can re-shoe horses, when he's sober, and we've got a hedge wizard can whip up a half decent love potion every once in a while. Small temple, too, but that's about it."
Re: IC II
Meagnor the Elf
"Thank you, sir. This was just for curiosity's sake. I'm always interested in such things when passing by a new town."
Meagnor will finish his drink and then go to bed.

Thaumont 13, AC 1000
Shortly after midnight the companions are awakened to the sound of heavy rain. Despite the dilapidated condition of the inn the roof is thatched tightly, and they soon are lulled back to sleep by the rhythmic drumming above them. Upon waking in the morning it is still raining. Perhaps not as hard as before, but still hard enough to reduce visibility and render footing difficult.

Lanny the elf
Lanny awakens at dawn, a little disoriented at first as to where he is, but then remembering their stop in the tiny village of Eagle's Nest. Not waking up in Threshold represented something to him... perhaps that the party was slowly spreading its wings into the wider world.
Lanny goes down for breakfast and takes a moment to speak with the elves as he sips some hot tea.
"Horrible weather this morning... I hope we can at least make it through the mountains today. I am thinking I might spend some time this morning meditating on the spells of our elven heritage... Since we are travelling outdoors, these spells are perhaps fitting to our purposes. What say you all to this?"
