OOC I
Re: OOC
We were around 80-85 feet back, but in the room so everyone had a clear shot, and we could escape down the corridor if needed. This should give us at least 2 rounds of fire and arrows, before melee is required.

Re: OOC
Okay, so the second barrier gets pushed into the room a bit, perhaps ten or fifteen feet in front of the southern corridor, and PCs are crouched behind it, firing.
Re: OOC
Exactly. If possible, at least one round (maybe two) where all bowmen can fire on the troll, but leaving enough time for us to retreat down the corridor if necessary. The torch bearer may need to be the last one to depart the scene, so that, if needed, he can light up a fire or two behind us as we retreat (from the oily rags scattered in the hallway) if the troll gains on us too quickly.thirdkingdom wrote:Okay, so the second barrier gets pushed into the room a bit, perhaps ten or fifteen feet in front of the southern corridor, and PCs are crouched behind it, firing.

The plan seems to be coming along well! Who was going to light the oil trails and the troll on fire? There's been so much discussion, I've lost track of that part.

Re: OOC
I think the torch holders simply kept the torches upright and burning, so that someone could grab one quickly. TK, were the torch holders set up as traps to be triggered by the troll?

Re: OOC
Shrug. I don't think so. My comment was relating to lighting bolts/arrows quickly, not setting up traps. Ay this point no one is actually directly lighting the oil, as far as I can tell.
Re: OOC
I'll have Tratiln do that after he fires his bolt.
Re: OOC
Sounds good. It might be wise to have Tratiln on standby for lighting and throwing several of his torches at the different oily piles of rags that we have set up in the hallway (as the party is retreating down the hallway). This could potentially create several walls of fire that the troll must pass through (which will weaken it and probably slow it down) before it gets to us.Bouv wrote:I'll have Tratiln do that after he fires his bolt.

Re: OOC
I like Rremedio's take on it but Saul will probably have to head back a bit.
We could try to repeat our last fight and have fighters in the front and ranged attackers in the back.
Saul is willing to just say screw it and head back out to the side of the doorway, wait for the beastie to come in and after it engages the rest of the party try to stab it from behind. Don't I get a bonus for a surprise attack?
I'm only up for this if you guys approve.

I am great with this! Once we get in melee, give it a go. It might give us the extra damage we will need against the creature.Luis wrote:I like Rremedio's take on it but Saul will probably have to head back a bit.

Re: OOC
I'm in the middle of the IC post, but I wanted to draw the two thief's attention towards the Sneak Attack description on page 39: Sneak Attack: If a thief is able to
strike an opponent who is not aware of
the thief’s location, the thief can add
+4 to their attack roll and if the attack
hits it does twice the normal damage
that the attack would normally do.
Should a thief make two simultaneous
attacks (because they are wielding two
weapons) then both attacks get the +4
bonus and do double damage if they
hit.
Simply being behind an enemy is not
enough to get a sneak attack. The thief
must actually be hidden, invisible, or
otherwise concealed, and their location
must not be known to their target.
The sneak attack may be made with a
melee attack or with a missile, thrown
or hurled weapon at short range.

Re: OOC
I'm good with Saul's plan. There's a bonus from attacking from the back, so having attackers spread in different positions is always good and Saul can try the sneak attack as the Troll attention will probably be turned towards us.
Saul needs to take care with the fire, but this won't be that hard to him as it will be to the Troll (I hope). And of course, take care with the Troll...he gets 3 melee attacks and have high attack bonus.

Re: OOC
We had a good round! Time to finish off this troll quickly, before it starts to regenerate!
@TK: Not that I'm complaining about my damage roll (6 out of 6!) but do the magic arrows add 1 to damage as well as 1 to hit? If so, the damage should be 1d6+2 instead of 1d6+1 (Lanny also has the laminated longbow for +1 damage).

You are correct. I missed that. I will address that shortly.frobozz wrote:We had a good round! Time to finish off this troll quickly, before it starts to regenerate!

Re: OOC
Nice work everyone. Even when our 'Plan A' does not come to full fruition, our 'Plan B' is still pretty darn effective.
Btw I adjusted the magic arrow totals and also removed the 10 used oil flasks from the Treasure List. Now, speaking of treasure...
