Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
Actually, I do have invisibility available and a levitate spell prepared. I'd mentioned it before as the method of egress from the lower level...
Earc nods and accepts the hook and rope.
Then he stands where he feels he is immediately below the opening, takes a sip of his invisibility potion, casts Levitate on himself, and raises up to the opening in the ceiling...

Olaf waits for the wizard to report on what's waiting upstairs.
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
Halfpint carefully inspects the wall which she finds suspicious based on their mapping efforts, but she discerns nothing further from it. With no additional treasure found and Earc having tucked away the silk tablecloth from the previous room, they leave the bones and fouled possessions presumed to be Carchannoi and Tyrrell in the dais chamber, the golden items in the pantry, and contemplate their ascent through the trapdoor above.
Earc turns himself invisible and dissappears before his companions. He then conjures an enchantment to allow him to levitate, though nobody notices but him. Olaf stands holding the tail end grappling hook and rope. All they can see is the sourceless light rising off the floor and up to the hole and a rope trailing behind...
Earc floats up to the open trap door and peeks through into the chamber above, his invisible glowing stick shedding light clearly. It is an almost round chamber about 30' across if it were a circle. The left and right side are truncated, closed wooden doors providing to two side rooms. Stone stairs spiral upward along the far wall, another chamber above.
Four goblins, who were apparently watching down through the hole, slide back in alarm as the sourceless light floats into the room, two tentatively grabbing their swords and the other two running towards the stairs, already yelling in their own language to call for help.
Date: 10:20am, 02 August 2021
Effects: Continual light
Injuries: Olaf (moderately wounded), Drunil (moderately wounded), Earc (minorly wounded), Florian (minorly wounded), Halfpint (minorly wounded), Hereward (minorly wound), Funil (minorly wounded)

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
OOC: shit...
Initiative [1d6] = 1
Earc fires magic missiles at the fleeing goblins, hoping to keep the alarm from sounding. If they flee before he can get the spell off, he targets the two goblins who remained behind...
Magic Missile Damage [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2 [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3 [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5

Olaf, hearing the ruckus, starts climbing the rope as fast as he can.
Next time we do this, we send someone with infravision up.

OOC: Or just remind the mage that he isn't invisible when he has a permanent light source on him.

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
Well, yes, the "without a light" was implied.

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
Earc hooks the rope and grapnel on the edge as Olaf begins to climb it, giving him a secure line, the rope appearing as he does so.
The two goblins are up the stairs before Earc can stop them, yelling the whole way as they go. The other two, seeing the rope appear and realizing the still-invisible Earc must be where the light source is, they both manage to stab him through his wizardly robes with their spears. (-6, -1) Crying out in pain, Earc's spell is interrupted! The balls of clay crumble in his hand. (Spell is lost.)
Still invisible, however, Earc is able to shift to the side as Olaf pulls himself up into the chamber, Funil and Drunil ready to come up behind him.

Olaf draws the Dragon Sword rushes at one of the goblins.
The Dragon Sword +3 (THAC0 16): [1d20+4] = 10+4 = 14 [1d8+4] = 4+4 = 8

OOC: Is Earc still invisible, then? If he didn't attack them then he didn't spoil the spell, right?

Also, does Earc have an AC bonus for being invisible? Like -4? Does that affect the second hit at all?

He is invisible. It is in the post.Alethan wrote:OOC: Is Earc still invisible, then? If he didn't attack them then he didn't spoil the spell, right?
I counted it. He's still AC 9; it hit with the bonus.Alethan wrote:Also, does Earc have an AC bonus for being invisible? Like -4? Does that affect the second hit at all?
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
Earc leaves the fighting to the fighters.
He drops the lighted stick of wood and drinks a potion of healing.
Potion of Healing [1d6+2] = 3+2 = 5
And heals most of the damage.
Then, still invisible, Earc carefully makes his way up the way the two goblins went, keeping a careful eye and ear out for trouble.

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
Earc drops his glow-stick, allowing it to illuminate the battle and drinks a potion (+5). Olaf, Funil, and Drunil charge at the goblins, their longswords raised! They swat away the goblin's spear blows with their shields. Olaf's dragon sword cleaves one goblin (-8) while Drunil executes a masterful blow with his lucky sword, (Critical hit, -20) dicing the goblin into several bloody gobbets before it can harm his father.
Halfpint is next up the rope, followed by Hengist and Steve. Florin alone remains below, holding the end of the rope for his climb, next.
Earc creeps up the stair, seeing the dim morning light in the dung-and-straw filled ground floor of the tower. Crates of stolen human goods and rumpled piles of cloth bedding lie near the walls and a stair continues up to the next layer above. While at first it looks empty, he sees that five wargs and their goblins crouch, ready to surprise the party as the ascend single file...

Assuming Halfpint has a view without risking her team, she will fire into the wargs.
Shortbow (Thac0 16) [1d20+3] = 11+3 = 14; [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5
oh, and I made your re-roll decision easy this time...

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
OOC: I believe the wargs/goblins are farther up the stairs, not within view from the lower room...
Earc sneaks back downstairs and alerts the others to the trap set at the top of the stairs.
"I'm pretty much out of offensive spells for the time being. I could shed some light on the goblins and wargs that might hurt their eyes..."
OOC: If Continual Light creates light like daylight, would that cause goblins to have a penalty? I can't remember if they have a penalty for being in full daylight or not...

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower-Part II-29 July 2021
"The gobs' position be well defended," grumbles Olaf when Earc relays the situation upstairs. "Could charge into 'em after Earc makes it be bright. Or we could look at what be behind the doors, now we be having no surprise. Let the gobbos wait on us."
My other idea is that Olaf has a potion of giant strength. If we could find something sufficiently boulder-like, Olaf could carry it up the stairs and throw it into the wargs and goblins, probably giving us a better chance of everyone being able to rush into the room above.

OOC: For mapping purposes, where is the hole in the floor located? I'm not sure how to map the stone stairs on the "far" wall without knowing where the hole is...
