DCC Lankhmar (Waitlist)
Re: DCC Lankhmar
cool. I think he'll come from Gnamph Nar, which is the northmost city, which ties in with his northerner fighter friend.
the weapon will be short or long sword, depending of how much cash i have left to buy a sword.

Re: DCC Lankhmar
Sounds good. At least it should connect to your knowing the tongue of the Northerners (adjusted from Mingol to help make this work). Your other language was "Old Ghoul" which is an archaic language, no longer spoken by the gods, but which Wizards sometimes learn in hopes of reading worn scrolls or inscriptions. Any thoughts about why you might have learned this exotic language?
Also, you guys don't need to establish a joint backstory. We'll bring you together in the first adventure...

Re: DCC Lankhmar - Actively Recruiting
drpete, please go ahead and submit an Admin Request to get the game forum for this created.
This post can and should be used for recruitment purposes, but all the the non-recruitment discussions and character generation should take place in an actual game forum.

Done!
Sorry, I'd been sort of holding off to see if our third would pan out

We are looking for additional rogues to find out our little group!
You can take over an abandoned thief, or create your own character. Come check it out

Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
I'd be interested in joining if there's still room--I know DCC a little bit (I love the ideas, especially Patrons, though I've never played it), but I have only a cursory understanding of Lankhmar.

Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
You'd certainly be welcome, no need to know anything about the setting, except, I guess that it's a human world with magic. I imagine most of our adventures will take place in the city of Lankhmar.
I suppose the next direction is, would you rather take over an existing character, or create your own? We have a thief that has been abandoned, but the party is (probably) close to the end of their first adventure, so adding someone soon won't be hard.

Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
I think it might be easier continuity-wise to start a new character rather than try to play someone else's. I don't mind waiting until the end of the adventure. And given the rather rough and dirty nature of Lankhmar (what I've read reminds me thematically of Thieves' World), it seems easy enough for one character to leave/die/move on and another to join up.
What's the party composition like? Is another thief needed? What class would be best?

Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
Well, we have a wizard and a warrior, plus the thief that's available to play. A thief might seem most logical, but sometimes the dice strongly advocate for something else
I'll add to you the group, and we can take care of business down there.

Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
Any more room? The Google search for "DCC game rules" gives a PDF from Goodman games. Is that the game, and is the free PDF legal?
Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
The free pdf from goodman games is legal, though it is a beta version of the rules. I think there are other links available from that search that are not legal, but *might* be the actual game (dunno what those links do).
The beta rules would give you a pretty good sense of what the game is like, though various things have changed since the beta. It's a pretty freewheeling system that is basically a cross between bx and 3e, with some gonzo added in... unpredictable spells, crit and fumble tables, etc.
This is "dcc Lankhmar" which is a somewhat modified version of the dcc rules. The beta for the rules modifications for this were released to kickstarter backers, and that's what we're using. I'll walk you through it, if you're on the fence over the rule book issue.
There's room, though it may be a week or two until we're ready to slot you in (the party are close to done with their current adventure, but nothing is "fast").

Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
Okay, I need to read the thread and then do an honest self-eval on time. I know that I slow down in November for NaNoWriMo, and stop everything in Dec. Let me read for a while and see.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
Well, it's my hope that this would last more than another month, if that swings your decision, one way or another...
Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
I hope it does! The DCC rules don't look bad at all.drpete wrote:Well, it's my hope that this would last more than another month, if that swings your decision, one way or another...
Sorry if my note wasn't clear. Each December I start "New Year's Dissolutions"; a time to step back from as much as possible. A chance to reflect on the year past and plan for the year upcoming. I still go to work, eat, and smooch with the wife. However, as much as possible I stop everything else since I have a very bad habit of over-committing time and poorly choosing priorities. By January I'm ready to get back into things with focus and energy.
Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
Ah, ok...
Well, hopefully by December, you'd be able to tell if it was something you wanted to continue.

Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
We are again looking for some new blood. If anyone would like to jump into our game, either as an established character, or as a character they create themselves, they are most welcome to join us.
The game is small, and currently moving along fairly quickly, so you would need to be able to post at least once a day to keep up. DCC is essentially a souped-up cross between basic D&D and D20. Critical Hits/Fumbles, a different (more powerful) take on "Vancian" casting, luck mechanics, etc. It's very easy to learn, but no experience is necessary.
Our group has escaped from a mad wizard's prison and robbed a rich merchant's vault during a costume party. We need you to help us decide what to do next!

Re: DCC Lankhmar (Recruiting)
Hello there, I would like to join. I'm familiar with DCC and Lankhmar, but not the Lankhmar rules.
