Alordan seems a little confused on what exactly the plan is. If we are going to do something, we should at least do it together. There is no way to communicate if we split up...

Sorry, guys. In my last post I was trying to propel the party in a direction (talking to the natives in order to find out the secret to enduring the bugs so we could operate at night) so we could do something, since people seem to be frustrated/bored with waiting and watching. I thought finding the native women was being cued up, but now it seems we can't find/trace them (I thought rangers could do that? :? ). And if we attack in daylight (now) we'll be seen and massacred (as demonstrated, twice). And if we wait 'til night, the bugs will eat us alive (as demonstrated). The mage clearly has to be dealt with first, or we're dead - see previous for day vs. night options on that one.

So, to sum up, I have no idea what we could do that makes any sense. But here goes nothing. Dissent is welcome. :)
Chauncey stops packing up his things. "So we can't track the natives?" he says in frustration. He throws up his hands. "Well, it's back to the original assault plan, then, with one minor change - we wait til dark, but instead of incapacitating the ogres first, we will do the same to that unkempt, unstylish dark mage. Simultaneously, we will set the drying barn alight. This should distract the mercenaries. Simultaneously, we will free the bonds of the slaves. Hopefully all this will create such confusion that the ogres will be running to and fro, higgledy-pigglety, in an unconcerted effort, and may be dealt with singly or in pairs with the help of a stark naked, oversized Monocar." He stops to gauge the reaction to his plan, then quickly adds, "Oh, then we run like hell."

Luther

Luther nods at Chauncey's sketched-out plan. That's why I said go now- so we can have time to get in position.

No need to apologize, CP. I'm probably the problem here. I thought the plan was pretty clear, so I was trying to kick things off.

Alordan nods to plan. After they agree on an exit path, he'll set up his trip wires to provide some obstacles to cover their escape. He'll get into position to provide ranged cover for the daring folks approaching the buildings!

OOC: it's all good on the plan - i was getting confused (easy to do!) with the talk of the buildings, the prisoners, and then the natives thrown into the mix. No suicide missions for Alordan - he's done with those!

Monocar

Monocar looks ready to go and is waiting for instructions. His poor mind cant keep up with the amorphous plans.

I'm all for the night assault. We just need to dicuss positions and timing.

Rangers can certainly track things, but wouldn't they need to have an initial trail to follow? Since there are no prints in your current area, "tracking" the female natives is currently impossible. If you want to move in that direction to see if you can find some tracks, I am fine with that, but remember that you cant move worth a shit through the thick jungle. 1/4 movement and a higher chance of making noise.

If you want to get into different positions before the attack begins, each of you should let me know where you want to be before we get started.

Talaris is 100% with Alordan's suggestion of not rushing into a suicide mission here, but might be willing to listen to reason if you want him to move to another position.

I will move this along to sundown (or later, if you want) as soon as I get a position from everyone. What you do after that is totally up to you.

Lightfinger deliberates.

Very good, The Halfling whispers, As soon as the shadows get just a trifle longer, I'll make my way to the slaves. Due to my size, the grasses will be of great use in covering me and my movements. I will reach my goal before anyone else is able to reach their respective positions, but it will take some dear time before all the slaves can be freed. Some of the locks I may be unable to pick, unfortunately, but enough should be free to cause the desired confusion. Clancey should not go on his episode of this mission alone, he'll need protection for his part. Who will play the other parts?

Luther

We want the Boom from Chauncey's wand to be the signal for everyone else to act, right? Other than our "locksmith", of course. I'll go with Chauncey to protect him- and start whatever chaos I can afterward.

Emancipation Time
Go Time
Starday, The 6th of Goodmonth
Early Evening, Hot, Muggy, Buggy

After a night of no sleep, and then spending a grueling and uncomfortable day trapped in the jungle, the sun finally begins to set. Lightfinger watches the shadows growing long on the rows of vegetation spread out before him. He is fairly certain he could use his size and skills to reach the slaves unseen.

Chauncey’s trigger finger is nearly on fire from griping his wand so tightly. He looks back and forth from the ogres shack, to the barracks full of men, and then to the shack of the dark wizard.

Once the light of day begins to fade, the workers around the camp finish up what they are doing and eventually assemble in the barracks again for a nightly meal. A few of the men retire to separate, smaller huts behind the barracks, but not many of them. You don’t see the dirty wizard join the men in the barracks this time.

One of the ogres begins walking towards the high black cliff walls, stopping where it meets the jungle. When he gets there, he looks around a little before slowly starting out on what looks like a patrol around the entire farm field. Beginning on the opposite end of the clearing from your position, it will take the brute at least 3 hours before it reaches your area.

The other ogres grab huge barrels and move to the river, filling them with water and returning to their hut. They bring one of them to where the slaves are chained and they all drink from it feverishly. The slaves are allowed to pick something to eat, but then they are abandoned. The remaining 4 ogres light a small cook fire next to their shack, apparently about to bed down for the night.

Luther nods at the wizard, ready to protect him during the first phases of the attack.

Everyone hears an audible gulp from Talaris, still unsure what part he will eventually play in all of this mess.

Actions?

Luther R3 26/26
Lightfinger T4 19/19
Talaris C1 9/9 3/3 first
Monocar F3 30/31
Chauncey MU3 16/16 CL, DM, RM 2/2 first 1/1 second
Lerrick C1 8/8 3/3 first

ooc: haven't been able to check lately. I'm back though. :)

The cleric whisper tersely "Wait" Making sure everyone is around her she closes her eyes and numbers a
silent prayer to her God. A surge of optimism spreads throughout the entire power. Thank you all. Let's put an end to this evil.
She then moves behind the fighters and waits for everything to start.

Lerric uses a bless spell.

"Luther," says Chauncey, "The specifics of our plan are the following, to be adapted as circumstances dictate: we must sneak right up to the shack of the Evil Wizard. I must be within 15 feet of it to do what I must do. Also, unless there is an open window granting a clear line of sight inside, I will need you to... ahem... knock on the door. Perhaps under some pretense, such as "the barn is on fire, sir." Does this sound agreeable to you? You see, we must incapacitate the stinky magic man and I fear a simple discharge of the boom stick may not do the trick. He is a wizard of some considerable learning and may have protections for such things." He looks out over the intervening space between their position and the hut. "Perhaps the best way to 'sneak up' in the dark is simply to walk there openly? There are a lot of men here, new ones arriving all the time, it seems. We might just pose as new recruits?"

"Who will set the drying barn on fire while we deal with the mage? I feel we can accomplish this the old fashioned way, rather than waste a charge of the stick? Monocar, remind me, just before we set out, I'll Embiggen you. I did promise. You can pose as a new ogre recruit."

List from the OOC thread:

Signal to begin the attack: Fireball?
Designated place of retreat/regroup: River/Trail?

Individual Plan of Attack:

Lightfinger: Sneaking out towards the location of the slaves to free them during the commotion.

Luther: Sticking with Chauncey at the onset of the attack and waiting to see where he can do the most damage.

Monocar: Charging the ogres with nothing on but a longsword after being Enlarged by Chauncey.

Lerrick: Sticking close to the group, casting a Bless spell before everyone moves out.

Talaris: NPC’d

Chauncey: Trying to sneak up to the shacks behind the barracks.

Alordan: Cover Fire and traps?

Fill in the location and timing details wherever you see fit and we can get this rolling as soon as everyone is ready.

OGRE MAGE wrote:List from the OOC thread:

Signal to begin the attack: Fireball? I’d suggest that someone light the barn on fire simultaneously to Chauncey attempting to incapacitate the mage and Lightfinger starting to free the slaves, so the “signal” that things are beginning would be smoke/fire from the drying barn and possibly yelling from the mage’s shack. A soft launch, if you will. I think we should avoid outright attack at all costs and instead focus on sowing confusion?
Designated place of retreat/regroup: River/Trail? Open to suggestions, but the river trail seems like a bad idea? Can we just disappear into the jungle meeting back where we are now?

Monocar: Charging the ogres with nothing on but a longsword after being Enlarged by Chauncey. Only as a last resort! Monocar could pick up Chauncey and run with him (after the mage incapacitation) as if he were a prisoner?? In the dark, he’ll look like an ogre.

Talaris: NPC’d

Cool! Lets keep picking away at this list until everyone is satisfied with their initial actions. I don't want a TPK here anymore than you guys do. :D

Signal to begin the attack: Once one of the drying barns is on fire? (who is doing this?)

Designated place of retreat/regroup: Back to the original hiding spot. (red X on the map)

Lightfinger: Sneaking out towards the location of the slaves to free them during the commotion.

Lerrick: Sticking close to the group, casting a Bless spell before everyone moves out.

Talaris: Leaning towards leaving this area entirely.

Chauncey: Trying to sneak up to the shacks behind the barracks with Luther.

Alordan: Cover Fire and traps?

Agree that the river trail is a bad idea. It is frequently traveled and we don't know what coming up the trail. regrouping at the red x which we are familiar with works for me.

Alordan needs to be 100' or less to get no penalty on his bow attacks (100 or more is medium at -2). With the number of potential smugglers fleeing the buildings, that may be his best chance to support. I would prefer traps near the red X as that is more of a last ditch effort if we get chased that far. Another thought is to have some type of distraction (signal, fire, or noise?) that we could trigger to distract the smugglers.

Does monocar really want to take on 5 ogres by himself? :).

Luther

Alordan- can you improvise a flaming arrow? If so, putting one or two in the drying barn would be an excellent way to start the chaos we want.

What I am seeing all of a sudden, that Enlarged Monocar with a Chauncy riding his shoulders armed with the fireball wand... I think we just invented the tank. Chauncy can even tie himself on with some vines and a makeshift set of reigns "No this way you galiath dolt! Haha!" BOOM! "Good! Now kick in the door to that barracks!" BOOM!

If no changes are made to these suggestions ooc, can I assume that each player is satisfied with their starting roles?

Right or wrong, I would like to get this action started eventually.

Signal to begin the attack: Once Alordan sets the drying barns on fire?

Designated place of retreat/regroup: Back to the original hiding spot. (red X on the map)

Individual Plan of Attack:

Lightfinger: Sneaking out towards the location of the slaves to free them during the commotion.

Luther: Sticking with Chauncey at the onset of the attack and waiting to see where he can do the most damage.

Monocar: Charging the ogres with nothing on but a longsword after being Enlarged by Chauncey?

Lerrick: Sticking close to the group, casting a Bless spell before everyone moves out.

Talaris: Leaning towards leaving this area entirely.

Chauncey: Trying to sneak up to the shacks behind the barracks with Luther.

Alordan: Moving through the jungle towards the barns to get a better shot with his flaming arrows. Providing cover fire from that location.

Fill in the location and timing details wherever you see fit and we can get this rolling as soon as everyone is ready.
Talaris speaks his mind before anyone moves out.

"I am pretty sure that the ogres can see in the dark. Heck, they might be able to see us standing here already, unless we are too far away from them. And no offense Chauncey, but I have watched you hike up your skirt anytime you need to run away. Do you really think you or anyone else will be able to sneak all the way across this clearing unseen, just because its dark out? I am not saying that I have a better option, but you should probably be ready to use that wand of yours well before you reach those buildings."

He then points to Monnocar once the fighter begins to disrobe again.

"And if this big galute thinks he can take out 5 ogres by himself, just because you made him a little bigger, I feel sorry for him."

The sky is fairly clear and the moon is half full, so there is a little bit of natural light for the humans to see by.

Alordan

1) Trip wire setup on the path Alordan would take moving from right to left (from river trail to red x). he'll let everyone know where it is.

2) He'll set a trip wire across the river trail before firing to help create some confusion should they chase that way. he'll let folks know he's doing this.

3) Would make a small and concealed fire - just big enough to light an arrow head. Fires the flaming arrow (from the river trail) to set the barn on fire. He'll start to move left back towards the red X (staying in range of missile fire).
