Foix stops and turns to Ana again. “Fenrir Jones??? It is the curse of men that they forget - but La Légion never does! The 2nd Infantry owe you a debt for your action on Hessia and that duty now falls to me! Les Paras will wine and dine you and your comrades on the Infantry’s behalf! With your permission of course Général?”Ramona wrote:Ana nods and shakes Grimaud’s hand in turn, “I think we can arrange that, is it still General or are you the Count of Foix again?” She starts to lead the two men back towards the ship, “You probably don’t remember but we met a few years back on Hessia, or maybe it was Lorissia, Anastasia Jones.”
He laughs “How could I not see you Fenrir? You have done something with your hair?” He smiles warmly “May I say you are wearing your hundred years very well, Madame?”
His tone becomes more serious as he replies “I have retired from La Legion and have found I have inherited much due to a series of “accidents”. I have not been advertising my presence here while hoping to discover more of affairs at home”.
“Ah, once more I forget my manners! Grimaud step up and meet the Général the legionnaires called “La Flamme”! Will you please cook for the crew?”
Grimaud, seemingly much more confident, says “For a dinner for two Generals I will excel even myself!” An almost tangible passion seems to enthuse him as his awkwardness evaporates and he launches himself into mental preparations for the meal “I will need to see the kitchen – galley? How many covers - I mean crew members? Any allergies or special requirements? It will be a Legion dinner … where can I source blood sausage? Wine – two, no three cases!”
Grinning at his comrade’s enthusiasm Foix comments “It would be best to let him start before he explodes!”
He turns back to Sara “Mam’selle Sara will you forgive my deception?” He takes her hand once more and with a small bow adds “Général Gauvain de Beauhernais a L’Espée Foix, Comte de Foix at your service. Please call me Gauvain, my given name, or Foix, for the land - whichever you choose”.
