The rear group continues with its slow migration eastward, carefully crossing each of the pits. Gramble and his dog slowly traverse the slime pit, sprinting around the corner and approaching poor Judson who is having trouble freeing himself from the net of sticky webs. Maag is fast on their heels, crossing the pit right behind them. The much faster Jaxsen waits patiently for his turn on the makeshift slime bridge. Avaala, Rollo, and Brother Gilbert are the only ones left to cross over the final pit.

Storm an Saracen slash at the webs holding Judson tight. Their combined efforts chop the fighter free just as Gramble rounds the corner to learn what is happening. The sticky strands of netting fall to the floor at their feet, allowing passage into the unchecked halls beyond.

The horrifying spider man, still pulling the prone form of Eawad along with him, bursts through the eastern doorway covered with webs and disappears into the room beyond the sticky veil. Another web screen blocks a similar open doorway directly across the hall from where the monster just disappeared with the groups unconscious thief.

Actions!

Movement is somewhat hampered due to the complexity of crossing the pit obstacles, though I am still allowing 2 people to cross each round.

He will follow Avaala and Rollo when all the fighters have passed.

Saracen heft’s his sword and shield and moves across the pit and follows the ettercap through the webbed archway, cutting the webbing away before he enters, and keeping to the side of the walls as he moves. Cover me with the other doorway! he says looking up to see if there are any more web nets overhead before he crosses.

Judson gets up and follows Saracen with sword and shield out as well ready to attack.

Maag

Maag keeps running as fast as his short legs will carry him, though he fears it's too late to save the young thief now.

Storm will follow across the cut web net, and move to the other entrance, standing with his back to the wall next to the webbing net and listen to see if he can hear any movement within.

Jaxsen Reiter

Jaxsen moves quickly, trying to catch up to the warriors. His halberd's blade is raised, so as not to harm an ally as he moves through the turns and passages. He has not seen the humanoid ally of the spiders and knows only that his friends are in danger.

Avaala the Grey

As Avaala and Rollo cross the slime pit, they wait for Brother Gilbert. "Some of us should stick together at least," he tells the young Priest. "And Rollo is as brave as he is big... just in case we're not alone." He pats the big Mastiff's head, drawing as much comfort as he gives.

The chase continues past the webbed doorway, leading blindly into the room beyond. The fighters sheer desire to save their new companion is commendable, even if it is slightly foolhardy. Saracen cuts the web doorway and enters with the others hot on his heels. He stays near the wall, unsure what he might find in here. He thinks he sees a round shape glinting in the far corner, about the same size as Brother Gilberts big coin.

Storm stays outside with his back to the wall as Judson rushes through the doorway next. The druid tries to listen at the other web veil, but with all the excitement going on at the moment, he hears nothing beyond. Judson plows into the room and sees more spider webs everywhere. He can tell that this room is much larger than the passages he has seen so far, but the webs scattered all around makes it difficult to see well.

Jaxsen rushes up to the action, making it nearly all the way into the room behind the others. He can see them through the webby veil and knows that his fighting skills will be needed before this is all said and done. Brother Gilbert feels badly for getting his group into this trouble, but he knows that adventuring is dangerous business and that they all freely agreed to come along. He, Avaala, and Rollo bring up the rear of the group. They make it far enough to see Storm standing outside the two rooms.

By the time Saracen and Judson get an idea of what they have just stepped into, it is already too late. The humanoid spider monster still carrying Eawad can be seen near the back of the room, apparently attempting to climb up the walls to get back into the canopy above. Like the walls, the ceiling in this room is also covered in spider webs, but it is noticeably higher than in the passages outside, nearly 25 feet overhead in most places. Gramble and Maag burst in next, just in time to see what they are in store for.

Directly in front of the fleeing monster is a gigantic spider, nearly 10 feet in diameter. It rears its huge body back and lunges, trying to take a bite out of Saracen, who is saved from certain death by the grace of his heavy armor. The warrior priest can smell the sickly poison dripping off the fangs of this massive ugly arachnid, certain that he would be suffering badly right now if the things bite were to penetrate his flesh. As he and Judson tear down more of the hanging webs with their movement, they create enough room for everyone entering to see clearly enough to engage the beast in combat.

Actions!

Everyone, including Gramble, is or will be in position to make an attack this round if they so desire. Please roll for your animals as well if they are getting in on the combat. (Otherwise, I am happy to roll for them if that makes it easier for you. Just give me their action along with your characters.)

Saracen will strike out at the gigantic spider, trying not to panic.

Storm hearing the cries of combat will move across the corridor and peer in. Seeing the thief stealer climbing the wall he will cart a faerie fire spell upon it if he can.

Jaxsen Reiter

Jax moves in beside Saracen and lunges forward with his halberd. The thick carapace on the creature foils his attack, however.

He draws back the pole arm and prepares to attack again.

Avaala rounds the corner and sees the monstrous spider. Although he had not counted on this, he thinks his plan might still work. He quickly casts his newly discovered Invisibility charm on Rollo. He then points to the Ettercap trying to escape with Eawad and says, "Rollo, attack!", counting on the Invisibility to get Rollo past the spider unseen and surprise on the Ettercap.

Rollo, only vaguely aware that he is invisible, runs around the spider and lunges at the Ettercap.

OOC: I'm going to modify the attack roll for Rollo. I believe +4 for an invisible attack?

Rollo latches on and begins mercilessly shaking the spider-like creature.

Maag runs around to his left to swipe at the big spider, without success.

Judson attacks with his bastard sword sweeping the weapon in a high arc and then brings his weapon crashing down into the gigantic arachnid. He curses to himself at his attempt to score a major blow.

He will hang back with Avaala, preparing to do healing.

I do hope the invisibility spell works for Rollo, he is a good creature. Now I understand on what Orin spoke. A monster spider, indeed.

Avaala the Grey

Avaala nods to Brother Gilbert. "It will keep him hidden until he attacks. And our fighters have the spider's attention. That will be enough." Brother Gilbert can probably hear the hint of doubt in Avaala's voice. Avaala whispers to himself, "Please let it be enough." His knuckles whiten on his staff.
