OOC
Re: OOC
From the recruitment thread:
Quick show of hands: who has access to the B/X rules? Do people have a preference between LL Basic and B/X? Don't worry if you don't have the B/X rule books—LL Basic is fairly similar, and I can post the important differences.
One major quirk about B/X, if you aren't familiar with it: clerics don't get any spells at first level. I'm open to house-ruling that if we go with B/X.

Re: OOC
I knew prior that i have the basic set for B/X and digging around my google drive i found i have the expert set as well. LL I have both Basic LL and AES in pdf as well if that matters. Preference wise doesn't entirely matter to me I'd side with B/X more than LL but not be upset if I lose that vote for LL.

Re: OOC
If we’re still deciding on system: I would prefer BX, but enjoy LL as well, especially if the cleric is house ruled out of getting spells at first level.
I have just about every version of Basic out there, so I can easily go with whatever is easiest for the majority.

Re: OOC
Hi all. I have pdf versions of B/X Basic and Expert and don't know LL, so I would find it slightly easier if we opted for B/X. But ultimately, like everyone else, I'm easy either way.

Re: OOC
Me. (Well... There is a copy of the Moldvay rules at my parents house in what used to be my brother's room, but I wouldn't be able to get that for a few weeks since they live a couple hours away.)
Re: OOC
Okay. Here's a quick and dirty and only slightly copyright-violating cheat sheet for the shopping list. All the other character creation is basically the same as LL, except that clerics don't get spells at 1st level. There are lots of other little differences, but the shopping list is the one that matters most right now.
Also, the LL Basic PDF is available at DriveThruRPG for $4.99:
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/110 ... X-ed-Basic
You don't have to buy it, of course, but it's kind of handy to have.

Re: OOC
Rusty, are you going to be able to manage without the B/X rules? Should I track down some of the other important differences between that and LL Basic? Other than the shopping list, I think there might be a slightly different spell list (not that it matters to a band of thieves) and probably different XP progressions.

Re: OOC
Late answer, I know. I think I'll be fine without, though I'll grab my (brother's) copy of Moldvay next time I'm at my parents.
Are we leveling up while adventuring, or will there be a town to return to occasionally?

I posted some basic info about the town here: viewtopic.php?f=602&t=7600&p=371945#p371945.
Re: OOC
For those who don't have the B/X rules handy, I might also suggest the Necrotic Games "B/X Essentials" line:
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/ ... Essentials
The plain-text versions are free. Each sourcebook is just a retroclone compilation of all relevant material in B/X, no frills or commentary, "Just the facts, Ma'am."
I haven't looked too closely to see if there are differences from actual B/X, but I think the idea is to be as accurate as possible and nothing more, so that they can be used together to fully recreate B/X (but keep everything organized in topical booklets), or slipped into your own games piecemeal as references.

Love your game world writeup Zhym. It takes me back to the mid-90s, playing this series of silly shareware RPGs for the Macintosh called Yipe!.
Somehow I suspect that our first encounters will involve having our butts handed to us by rats and/or fluffy rabbits.
