TREEHOUSE (tavern)
Re: TREEHOUSE (tavern)
Wes
"Our trip is first all a hunting trip, though if we find something of interest we'll look into it. And depending on the game we find, or don't find, we may be forced to go off the trail at some point." states Wes. "I've been up there too. It's a bad place and strange things have happened up there to some of my friends as well".
Wes continues, "If we aren't successful up there, we're also thinking about visiting a few other places".

Greff takes a gulp of his drink before adding, "Food's scarce around here, we're trying to fix that."

Re: TREEHOUSE (tavern)
The big human nods in acknowledgment.
"Well, the folks that we came here with didn't do to well out in the jungle." He makes a motion with his thumb across his throat, indicating their demise.
"So, since we cant afford the boat ride home yet, we might as well join up with you guys to see what we can find out there. Wadda ya say, Stump?"
The other man stands to greet the three of you, but he just nods his hello's while the other man continues.
"My names Ren, and this here's Stumpy!" Pleasure to make yer acquaintance and all that!"
"Not to sound too crass, but feeding these peasants aint really our main goal. Do you think there will be any profit in this here......arrangement?"

Galanthas
From his position behind Wes and Greff, Galanthas says "Apart from having a chunk of meat for each of ourselves while hunting... Who knows what we might find around here? Maybe there's some treasure hidden here and there. Can't say I know much about this island anyway."

Ren peeks over the others to address the elf.
"Well, we aint making no coin sitting here drinking! And it aint safe to go out with just the 2 of us left! We will join with you for a full share each of anything we might find out there, Sound reasonable to you gents?"
Stumpy looks grateful to finally have something to do, yet he remains silent.

Wes turns away from Ren and Stumpy for a moment. "Well, what do you think, gentlemen?" he asks. As he does so, he holds his right hand close to his chest, with the thumb up indicating that he was fine with the proposed deal.

Greff shrugs, "Sounds reasonable to me, welcome aboard fellas." The ranger raises his glass to two gentlemen and finishes it off.

Re: TREEHOUSE (tavern)
Stumpy and Ren seem happy with the new arrangement, appearing eager to get right into some action. Looking them over a bit more carefully, they seem like decent enough chaps. Neither is wearing a necklace of cut off ears or anything like that, so they still seem fairly stable mentally. There is no immediate indication that your new friends will cause you any trouble. Ren nods his head again as he pats his new comrades on their shoulders.
"Lets get going then! No time like the present, I always say. Actually, I never really say that, but lets get going anyway! Up the loggers trail, then?"

"Well then gentlemen, it looks like we have a deal."
Wes' face become serious for a moment."Now, regarding our departure. I have to tell you that I must be in town tomorrow. There is a dying man over in the common house who is in need of my magic to cure him. So I'm afraid that we must leave the day after tomorrow. I'm sure you don't want to go into the jungle with me not having my most useful magic".

"Wait. What? You want us to go with you, but not for 2 more days?" What are we supposed to do in the meantime? Sit around and drink this piss?"
"We could always go out there, see what's shaking, and come back later today, no? We don't mind a good long walk to get the ol' blood pumping, right Stump?"
Stumpy does not respond.

"Well... We could always go scout the environs a bit so we can be back for tomorrow morning or even tonight (it's still early after all) and you can see to that man, Wes" Hesitating for a second, then, he adds "Who's him, by the way?"

Wes
The druid considers for a moment. "Yes, perhaps we could look at it as a hunting trip. On our first trip up the trail we were attacked by apes and a big cat, so there are still large animals out there. It won't bring us any money, but at least some better food and the thanks of the people here."
He turns to Galanthas. "He's a townsman over in the common house. There's a serious disease that has affected several people. I cured two people today, but I will have to return to him tomorrow when Obad Hai has refreshed my magic. I gave my word, and besides, it's better to cure him now before he perhaps spreads the disease to others."

Ren
"There ya go Wes! Now that's the spirit! Lets get out there for a while and see what we can find! Anything has got to be better than sitting here rotting away in this dump!"
Randall looks up from the bar with an angry look, but decides not to say anything.
"So, you ready to do this, Stump?"
Stumpy nods his head enthusiastically. He checks over his gear, but doesn't say anything.
I will start a new thread for this mission shortly.

Wes
Wes retires to the tavern in the evening to see if Greff, Galanthas, Ren and Stumpy are there. Perhaps they can discuss their encounter with the dwarves and work on their plans for future expeditions.

Re: TREEHOUSE (tavern)
Galanthas
If the DM allows, perhaps Galanthas had been there for a while already. Maybe with Ren and Stumpy and possibly Greff. He will spend the necessary coin for the (moderately consumed) grog and brew, and went to bed in the evening and then back on the next morning. Because a whole day has passed since we came back from the hunting trip, right?

Re: TREEHOUSE (tavern)
Lets keep the "time" here in the tavern on the same evening as the hunting trip for this first conversation to avoid any confusion.
Randall is always happy to see patrons in his elevated establishment. The tavern is bustling tonight with nearly every table and chair filled to capacity. Adventurers and townies alike commensurate with their bellies filled with chicken and smiles across their faces. He smiles wide when the hunters climb the ladder for a drink.
"Yesa! Mi frens come bok! Welcome! Welcome! Randall ear dat ya brung us sum chicken ta eat dis time, nuh tru? You guys keep feeding da ol' town like dis an dey gonna make ya da mayor!"
The friendly bartender keeps the mugs of the 5 hunters filled with anything they ask for as long as they like. And as an incredibly uncommon and unprecedented show of appreciation for what they have done recently, all of the hunters drinks for the evening are on the house. Randall wipes the fresh chicken grease from his fingers and mouth whenever one of the men calls for another mug to be filled, not shy about procuring a big plate of the fatty meat for himself and also for his stew.
Ren and Stump take advantage of the bartenders gratitude, drinking their fill as they discuss the groups next endeavors. Randall has a question for the heroes on one of his many trips back to their private table.
"So, watcha gwan do now mi frens? Mi ear dat dra gon meat is considere a delicacy in some place. Can ya bring I some a dat next?" He winks at his friend Wes as he fills another mug to the brim.

Re: TREEHOUSE (tavern)
Wes
The druid enjoys his free meal and doesn't even complain about the grog, at least not as much as he usually does. As he eats, he outlines his thoughts to the rest of the hunters.
"My friends, we have a few choices. We can head back up that trail and confront those dwarves. With my more powerful magic, now that we know what we are facing, I can make short work of them. But that will put us into a direct conflict with the rest of the dwarves, once they find out what we've done. Maybe not a good idea with only five of us".
"We can go out hunting down the beach and into the jungle to the west. I don't think that area has been hunted so much. I've also heard stories of strange encounters out that way: invisible pipes playing music, unseen voices warning of dangers to Beachtown. I think even some missing children were rescued from something down there."
Wes counts off two fingers on his hand, then adds a third one. "We can head east and hunt in the jungle behind the beach there, where Gwen and I met Galanthas. We've seen a giant lizard and coyotes there, so there's something to hunt."
"Talking of Gwen, we could recross the river as she and I did. It's a strange place. Gave me a chill down my back the whole time. Something isn't right there. We saw a cave, footprints from pirates, strange offerings or warning signs. But almost nothing living. I think any group going that way will need a holy man. I think the dead walk there."
The druid takes a gulp of grog to dispel the memories of the land across the river. Then he checks off that last finger on his hand. "That island out there. I have to say it tempts me. There's probably nothing there, we'd have to hire a boat, and the boat might sink". Wes grins at everybody."But it's there, and we could probably explore it in a day and come back".

Re: TREEHOUSE (tavern)
Ren smiles at the options as he slams back another free grog.
"I have wondered about that little island ever since we got here. But every time I ask around about it, everyone here tells me the same thing. STAY AWAY! What could be out there that has everyone so afraid of going there? Even the fishermen steer clear of it, I hear. "
Stumpy remains silent.
