Jax quietly moves out of the line of fire between the rest of the company and the spiders. He has his halberd lowered for stabbing or charging. He holds his attack, wanting to see the effects of his allies' attacks.

He continues to watch the action, while he keeps glancing upward. He is not handy with projectile weapons, but he readies his mace.

Avaala the Grey

Avaala sees the forward members of the party opening fire on the spiders across the pit. He notes that Jaxsen is not being attacked, so he continues to keep Rollo in check and watch for any problems coming from the ceiling, staff and spells at the ready.

Mid Morning, Hot, Humid

Judson leaves the corner with the wall pegs and returns to the back of the group. He looks over the top of those in front of him, but cant get a clear line of sight to see what is happening on the other end of the pit.

Avaala keeps one hand on Rollo, who is still barking straight up at the ceiling above. The mage thinks he spots a dark humanoid form moving around above his position, but cant be sure through the thick vines and branches above. Rollo obviously has spotted something that he doesn't like.

Maag yells for Jax to move to the right, though he doesn't specify if he means his right or Jaxsen's. Saracen fires off two arrows at the lead spider, one of them hits the wall while the other sails over its head. Gramble lets his loud dog bark while he launches a dagger across the pit towards the spiders. The blade bounces off the huge arachnid, landing directly in the web filled pit at its feet.

Jax moves towards the east wall, trying his best not to interfere with the multitude of missiles flying in his direction. He keeps his blade trained on the many eyed beasts, but holds his attack for now. The pair of spiders continue to flail their feeling legs around out in front of their large, bulbous bodies. They nearly make contact a few times, but the nimble monk is able to keep his location hidden from them, even though he is standing basically right in front of them. He sees that the passage beyond the pit continues to the north, possibly turning to the west a little further ahead.

Maag and Storm fire on the spider as well, both of their shots connecting and doing clear damage. Eawad watches it all in silenced horror when another thick, rope-like strand of webbing crashes through the branches above and hits Rollo solidly in his back. The web begins to reel back up towards the ceiling immediately after making contact with the mage's confused canine.

I am really glad that Jaxsen decided to stay out of combat this round with 4 players lobbing missiles over the pit.

Storm whirls about and calls once more upon nature’s power, and casts entangle above him at the shadowy figure.

Lacking a clear line of sight to the humanoid in the foliage, Avaala takes his staff, twirls it tightly in the web rope over Rollo and adds all his weight to the load. "Let go of my DOG!" he grunts emphatically.

Jaxsen Reiter

Deciding that his comrades' missile expertise lacks effectiveness, Jax moves further down the hall and away from the flying death, staying close to the wall. He is careful not to touch the wall and leave smears in the creosote that the spiders might see. He knows he only has a few more minutes before he has to head back, so he keeps his scouting to another 30' or so of stealthy moving.

Seeing the dog snared by the web Judson brings his sword up and out of harms way of the party and swings it to slice through the web.

Storm begins to cast a spell up into the overhead foliage while Saracen sends two arrows zipping over his head, neither of them hitting their expected target. Maag and Gramble continue firing on the spiders as well, hoping to get them before they get Jax. Gramble watches another of his weapons bounce down the passage and drop into the web filled pit, Magg kills the wall next to one spider.

Jaxsen moves even further away from the spiders, very glad that the little druids spell has worked so well. He moves up the passage about 20 more feet and finds that it dead ends there. At the very end of the hall, he notices that a narrow portion of the wall to his left is constructed differently from the rest of the thick log walls. This area seems to be made up of simple vines and small branches. The huge spiders continue to circle around on their side of the pit, desperately trying to find a target to bite.

Avaala panics when he sees his dog attacked from above. He winds his staff up in the thick web strand, hoping to use his own weight to prevent the dog from being lifted up into the canopy. Judson has a better idea. He steps up and slashes the rope-like strand with his sword, severing it completely. The magic from the druids spell begins to take effect and the entire ceiling above your heads begins to writhe and entwine. Any movement from the barely seen dark humanoid form above slows, but does not stop completely. Whatever it is up there, it seems to be moving slowly away from the area as the branches and vines wind around hypnotically above. No more strands of web shoot through the branches at you.

Avaala the Grey

Avaala stands and turns to Judson. He nods and says, "Rollo and I both thank you for the help. I stand ready to return the favor, and hope you never need it." He then returns to keeping watch on the ceiling. In particular, he looks at the point through which the rope/webbing came through.

Is there a hole in the canopy that could have allowed something as big as Rollo pass through?
