Jaxsen Reiter

Jax steps right up after Maag speaks. He brings his halberd around to a ready stance and says, "Yes. I thought that some of us with longer weapons might be able to keep the spiders at the edge of their pit while we fight them. Three of us should be able to hold the line, especially with the others covering us. I am willing to be in that line."

Avaala the Grey

"If we are going back," says Avaala. "We need to keep in mind just how important the rearguard job is here. Don't forget that we saw an attack through the cover in the roof and that the dogs never stopped growling. We'll have to be extremely attentive."

Brother Gilbert

With a disappointed sigh, Br. G. will go along. He is sure this will not end well, but the trip was his idea, so he must go on.

I suppose the disk is important, in some manner, but what that is, we may discover later.

Quietly, he prays, asking for Pelor's blessings and mercy as the group goes forward.

Inside The Wooden Structure
Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy Outside

Unable to find a way past the copper gate, the group decides that their fate lies beyond the next pit. They regroup, helping each other back over the slime pit again. Jaxsen and Maag discuss ranks and formations to take on the spiders. Gramble again suggests simply burning the entire complex to the ground, seemingly uninterested if finding all of the Free Treasure that is sure to be found in here somewhere.

How far is the “ceiling” of vines etc where the spiders shot at one of us? Is it within 30’?

The walls and "ceiling" are roughly 15' high. However, the intertwined trees continue to grow much higher than that. The canopy above the ceiling grows at a similar height to the other jungle trees that surround the structure. Presumably, there could be quite a lot of area between the ceiling and the tops of the trees.

Maag

Maag nods at Avaala's instruction to watch the roof. He produces his crossbow and with his formidable strength, cocks it with seemingly no effort at all. "No worries, mate. I got it covered"

thanks

Storm steps to the corner and turns to the others, Sling ready. If someone can act as bait to lure them out, I can try and talk them out of eating us if we throw them some meat maybe? Save us a battle. It’s worth a try and if they aren’t willing to not eat us then have at it! What do you think?

Jaxsen Reiter

Jaxsen shakes his head. "If you threw them meat, they wouldn't know what to do with it. Spiders only eat what they kill."

Judson does his best to scrape of the slime and then thanks Jaxson for his help. He then moves forward with the rest of the party armed with his sword in hand eager to prove his worth and doing his best to hide his embarrassment for his mishap.

ooc: my bad on the dex check. Thanks for pointing that out

Brother Gilbert

... gets out his mace, figuring if he needed to squash arachnids, a mace is a good tool. He would rather not harm the spiders, but also will defend himself if attacked.

I suppose we should. *sigh*

Jaxsen Reiter

Once the front line fighters have been decided, Jaxsen takes the center spot in front of the spider pit, believing the length of his halberd to give the best advantage there.

"Once we are ready," he says. "I can probably just tap my halberd at the edge of their pit. I imagine that will bring them out."

Avaala the Grey

Avaala keeps his long staff handy, as well as keeping his mind clear for a fast attack spell. He does stop a moment to scratch Rollo behind the ears. "Ready, boy?" he asks softly. "Let's kill some spiders."

Saracen sighs and crosses the plank carefully again. With his bow at the ready and an arrow knocked and aimed at the ceiling he moves to the corner. Someone watch the rear in case somemof them appear there.

Inside The Wooden Structure
Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Humid

Crossing the slime pit once again, the dogs start to get confused as to which direction the group is trying to go. Once everyone is across and into position, the group moves forward slowly towards the web filled pit. Jaxsen, Gramble, and Brother Gilbert agree to take the front ranks, comfortable with fighting 3 abreast in the tight passageway. The others line up behind them, keeping one strong fighter in the back rank to protect from any rear attacks. Judson continues to smear away the green snot from his possessions as he keeps watch.

The dogs begin to growl again and Jeevus looks very nervous when Jaxsen starts tapping his polearm on the edge of the pit. There is clearly some rustling and movement beneath the webs, but nothing shows itself from below, no matter ho long the monk tries to draw them out.

The log that stretches across the long pit seems secure, though it doesn't hang over the edges very far. It seems solid enough to walk across, but the placement of it looks a bit precarious.

Actions?

positions:
Let me know if you want to be switched to somewhere else in the line-up. Brother G and Maag should be switched around on this map.

Actually, Maag has his crossbow out and is intent on protecting the ceiling & rear.
