Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters"
Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
Maag
The half-orc turns out to be almost as nimble as he is strong. He grabs the end of the rope from Avaala and and almost skips across the bridge.
Easy Dexterity Check (Dex 17) [2d6] = 6
Maag turns and grins, tapping the side of his head. "Up 'ere for finkin, down there," he does a little shuffle with his feet, "fer dancin'! Or for givin' someone a good kickin' if dey mouth off". He stares of into space for a moment, as if remembering something.
"Right, if I 'old dis end, and Gramble 'olds dat end, we'll 'ave a nice strong 'andrail for people to 'old as dey cross".

Brother Gilbert
Observing that at least one foe has been dispatched, Br. Gilbert feels slightly better about continuing: Perhaps we will not end up like the departed Orin.
He will go across the bridge somewhere in the middle of the group.(Dex=7)
roll vs.Dex [2d6] = 7

Storm stows his weapons and hops across the makeshift gang plank [2d6] = 8 to the other side easily. He keeps a wary look out however as he does so.
Nice bridge guys. I hope you didn’t butcher too many trees whilst you were about it! Nice work though.
The halfling in the green robes will take up a position as the end of the hallway and peer tentatively around the corner, with his head only, and also look up as well. He will quickly pull back once he has taken but a glance.

Saracen looks at the bridge warily. Is it safe? I am not sure.... He stows his weapons and eventually grabs hold of the rope handrail and shuffled slowly across. [2d6] = 3
Once upon the other side he claps the chaps upon the shoulder. Thabk you for that. I hope we don’t have to pass that way on the way out.
He gathers his bow back out of the quiver and restrings it, getting an arrow and watching the ceiling for any return signs of the arachnids.
How big were the legs Jaxsen, as long as the halfling? Me?

Gramble holds his end of the bridge steady until everyone is across and then crosses himself.

he brushes his hands off smiling at his accomplishment once on the other side.
I guess my axe is good for more than than people thought

Eawad Driftwood
Stuffing his sling away, Eawad waits until almost everyone else is across the pit before easily traversing himself. He then stares nervously upward, searching warily for movement.

Inside The Wooden Structure
Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy Outside
Maag and Gramble quickly devise a simple rope handrail and one by one the party finally advances past the slime pit. It starts to get really crowded in the 10 x 10 area just past the pit. Jaxsen waves his friends over when Storm takes a peek around the next corner. The tiny druid spots a large spider about 20 feet away from the corner, but it disappears as soon as he spots it, suddenly darting down into a second, much longer pit that appears to be filled nearly to the top with spider webs. There is a long, dark colored log that spans the entire length of this next obstacle. It is sitting precariously on top, at the very edges of the pit.
The ceiling, walls, and floor here look much the same as they did in the entryway. There are a few gaps here and there across the ceiling that lead up into the natural jungle canopy, but no other dark figures show themselves in that area. Jeevus the scribe crosses next, followed by both of the dogs. Judson watches as the others cross the bridge, waiting to see if it is safe to walk across. He soon finds himself all alone on the other side of the pit.
Actions?
map:
Brother Gilbert 8/8 3/3 first
Jaxsen 9/10
Gramble 10/10
Fieghtus 14/14
Jeevus 3/3
Storm 8/8 4/4 first

Avaala 12/12 CL DM RM 1/2 first 1/1 second
Rollo 17/17
Eawad 6/6
Judson 14/14
Maag 9/9

Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
how big would Storm say the spider was he saw. His size, human sized or larger?
Storm looks at the others and shrugs. I could try and talk to them if you think it might help. They would need to be a hell of a lot closer however.
He looks at the others for their thoughts before committing to anything. He als looks around at the vines and creepers and tree branches in case his magic might need to be brought offensively to these arachnids. He hopes it doesn’t come to that.

Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
Saracen laughs at the little heathen. Cover yourself in flies why don’t you. These spiders seems to be canny. I have a spell that can als talk to the beasts. But I differ to your expertise on this matter Druid, and will save my own light magic for other things.
He keeps his arrow and bow trained on the pit and the canopy above it. Someone keep watch behind us. I don’t trust these crawlers. Another bridge over a web filled pit. Great .

It looked like a common verity large spider. About 2' around or so. Nothing at all to worry about.Storm11 wrote:how big would Storm say the spider was he saw. His size, human sized or larger?

Judson looks at the makeshift bridge, then strides across with confidence having done things like this many times working in the silver mines with his father.

Eawad Driftwood
Timidly, Eawad clears his throat. "Maybe we should throw a torch into the pit?" he asks. "If the webs catch on fire, it could clear out a whole lot of trouble for us."

Gramble looks at the halfing thinking he must be mentally deficient thinking he can talk to spiders.
I have some oil, perhaps oil and fire will take care of the webs and maybe the spiders themselves.

Avaala the Grey
Avaala, finished with cleaning off his staff, and ready to join the others, scurries quickly and nimbly across the pit. He doesn't look down and he doesn't tarry.

Jaxsen nods at Eawad's words. "My order has very little use for fire. But the killing of spiders? That might be a good use after all."

Sorry about the premature positioning on that one.

Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
It's all good!
Jaxsen Reiter
Jax turns to speak to Brother Gilbert. "I can almost see it," he says, pointing to the pegs in the corner. "The man we spoke to in town, or one of his companions, pulling that copper plate down from the wall, backs to the spiders, never seeing it coming."

Judson peers around to see the next pit, then positions himself to guard the corridor containing the rope-slime pit while the others ponder what to do next with the second pit. (shield up and sword out)
