What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
I would be in for Risk and/or Axis and Allies. L5R looks interesting but I have never played and don't have any of the systems.
Starbeard, if you want to try a deadly combat system, Harnmaster is right there at the top. The system recommends it is always best to avoid combat. No matter how powerful someone is they can always be killed with 1 hit, it might require some luck but the chance is always there.

Oh yeah, Harnmaster is great. I've only played 2nd edition, though. I picked it up with HarnManor for a grand total of $8 off a local game shop's bargain shelf and immediately got sucked in. I'd say Harnmaster's combat is definitely deadlier across the board than L5R, while a lot of L5R's deadliness comes not just from combat, but also from social situations—it's still the only fantasy RPG I've played where the entire party voluntarily TPKed themselves simply because they were ordered to!Rex wrote:I would be in for Risk and/or Axis and Allies. A game of Diplomacy would be lots of fun. We'd need an impartial referee to process turns and write the Dipzine, but most of the game would be self-run by the players, sending messages back and forth and roleplaying in public threads.
Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
Hmmm I haven't read all of this thread but I would really really enjoy playing those 5 or 6 Ravenloft modules that tie in together(Forget the names at the moment)

WGR6 (2e) - The City of Skulls
Die Vecna Die! (2e)
The Black Monastery (S&W)
The Lost City of Barakus (S&W)

Modules I don't think I've seen run on here in the past either. Good mentions.Quetzal wrote:Some D&D and similar modules that I've heard good things about, don't have, and would love to try as a player:

13th Age I'd like to learn to play this eventually.

I looked into 13th Age a bit and just downloaded the rule book. Count me in if you ever get around to it!

Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
Looks like Moondarq mentioned some interest in 13th Age in this thread, too, back in February.
Keep me posted if you do really want to get something going. I know you already have quite a few games in progress so no obligation, obviously. I ended up ordering a hard copy of the core rules to take with me on vacation later this month since I wasn't planning to bring my laptop, so I'll be studying up on it!

I've always wanted to try 13th Age as well, but never had the opportunity. I would be interested in playing the game if one is started.

13th Age sounds interesting. I'd be down for that.

Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
I suppose the real question is do we have anyone on here that already knows 13th age or are we all just going to learn it together and someone is going to step up and DM it?

Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
I always wanted to give GURPS and Shadowrun a shot. Has anyone ever ran a game for either on the forums? I know they're both really crunchy so I was curious if that bogged the games down too much.

Only played GURPS once I think it was one of Ruke's games on here that he used GURPS system for. Other than that shadowrun i only ever played the video game version of. I'd love to give that a shot in a rpg pbp scenario though.

Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
I have never played Gurps or Shadowrun, but Shadowrun would be cool. I think crunchy would be easier in PBP, the DM would have plenty of time to work through stuff anyways.
Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
I played shadowrun about 20 years ago at college and really enjoyed it. I'd be interested.

Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
This is only my humble opinion but, if you do go for some Shadowrun, I'd recommend going old school. I played some face-to-face 1st Ed back in the day and recall enjoying it but someone from my online group decided he wanted to give 5th Ed a try more recently and the crunch made our ears bleed. Maybe I'm just getting old but the other guys I game with aren't as long in the tooth as me and all had the same opinion.
Still, everyone's different. I'm sure a lot of people like Shadowrun 5th Ed. That's just my take on it.

Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
I played 1E and 2E shadowrun, they are not that different from what I remember, 2E has a few of the kinks removed, old-school would do me fine, less to relearn

Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
2e would actually be what I'm interested in as well, I managed to snag the core rulebook and a bunch of splats for 3-4 bucks a piece on Amazon a few years ago.
Most of the system I get but the decking rules do give me pause, I'm sure if I saw an example in play though, it would be fairly obvious.

Re: What would you like to play/run? (Interest Catch-all)
Unfortunately I don't have any shadowrun rulebooks anymore
Yeah, decking and rigging was something our group avoided as too complicated.
