Inside The Wooden Structure
Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy Outside

Eawad looks around nervously with his sling at the ready. Storm stares at the black goop on the wall, wondering how he could store some of it. Avaala lets the green slime ooze down his staff. It eventually drips off and glops back into the pit, rejoining the rest of the contained mass. His staff is free of the thick slime, but it is now coated with a stinking slippery residue that will need to be wiped away somehow before he can use it again. Rollo growls at the spider legs, but so far hasn't leaped the pit to attack.

Remembering the fate of his former companion Orin, Brother Gilbert warns everyone to stay away from the spiders. Saracen also warns that the arachnids may now be upon them. Jaxsen backs away from the unseen corner again, not willing to play into the tricksters wicked plans.

Outside, Gramble swipes at the much smaller saplings around the entrance, chopping through them easily with his huge battle ax. Maag and Judson stand guard along with the huge fighters dog and scribe. After a few minutes of chopping, there are enough smaller logs cut down to bundle together into a usable makeshift bridge.

Jaxsen notices that there are also rustling sounds coming from above his position now as well as around the corner. Looking up, he sees that the vines and branches of the ceiling here are not as tightly knit. He spots a few gaps in the foliage above, but still cant tell what might be moving around up there.

Avaala the Grey

Avaala let the slippery residue on his staff wait for the moment, unwilling to be distracted if his attention is needed across the pit.

"You wait right there," he says to Rollo. "Maybe you can jump that pit. But for now, just stay."

Jaxsen Reiter

Jaxsen re-focuses himself, watching both the wall the spiders reached around and the ceiling. He takes a couple steps towards the corner of the wall he has his back against, to give himself a moving start if he needs to jump back over the pit. Figure the 5' mark of that 10' wall.

Maag

Maag helps Gramble lash the trunks together, grabs hold of the other end and starts to follow him back to the structure.

Eawad Driftwood

As the group makes preparations to bridge the pit, Eawad relaxes slightly, trying to draw confidence from the group's seeming assuredness. His discomfort gradually turns to embarrassment, as he once again seems to be providing no real use to the others. He briefly muses whether he could jump across the pit, if need be. Otherwise, he maintains his vigil, sling in hand, not sure whether he hopes to see a spider poke around the corner or not.

Saracen remains on alert, arrow ready. The hairs on his huge forearms begin to rise as the thought of gigantic spiders hunting the party begins to sink into his mind. The holy champion stands resolute facing the canopy above the companions.

Storm continues to hold his position, looking back the way the group had travelled, glancing up into the tree line above as well, sling ready to fire.

Brother Gilbert

May I suggest a strategic retreat back towards the door? Br. Gilbert whispers.

Inside The Wooden Structure
Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy Outside

The team outside begins lashing the freshly cut trees together with some of the jungle vines that grow everywhere. The three men work well together while dog and scribe keep watch over their progress. Before long, they are ready to carry their bright green bridge inside.

While the others all watch, Eawad wonders if he could make the jump across the pit if necessary. He is certain he could make it with a run, fully unencumbered, but highly doubts it with all his gear on him. The rustling over Jaxsen's head builds until he can actually see a dark shape emerge through all the thick vines and branches. As Brother Gilbert suggests a retreat, a strand of thick, rope-like webbing suddenly shoots through a small gap in the natural ceiling above. The strand hits Jaxsen on the top of his back and right shoulder, splattering him with sticky goo that binds tightly to his shirt and neck. The web strand suddenly becomes taught, rising back up towards the canopy.

Jaxsen Reiter

Jax takes his halberd and brings it up parallel to the web trying to pull him up. If the spider wants him, it better be ready to get skewered.

I'm going on the idea that,
1.) Since it has me by the 'shirt and neck', I cannot simply slip out of my shirt and get free, and
2.) The 'small gap' that the web came through is big enough for me to make this spider eat the heard of this halberd.

If either of those are wrong, please let me know. A change of actions might be prudent. :-)

Avaala the Grey

Avaala casts his Magic Missile charm at the web trying to take the monk.

Magic Missile at the web [2d4+2] = 7+2 = 9

Hell yes!

Storm continues to keep watch at the back of the party, both behind them at their exit and in the canopy above them at the rear, ready to sling a bullet at any enemy that approaches.

Judson continues his watch as the other two make the finishing touches to the makeshift bridge. He looks in all directions and up. Shield up and sword out, ready to hack at anything that comes near.

Eawad Driftwood

"Oh, no!" Eawad shouts, watching helplessly as the sticky strand splatters into Jaxsen. "They've got him!" He peers up into the foliage above and across the pit, trying to find a target for his sling stone.

Inside The Wooden Structure
Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy Outside

Jaxsen does not panic when he is hit from above by the sticky strand. He first thinks about simply slipping out of his tunic, but instead thrusts his halberd straight up at the attacker in case he is lifted up into the gaps of the living ceiling. Once the web strand is taught, a pair of tiny bolts of pure energy shoot out from the tips of Avaala's fingers. The missiles of pure magic sizzle through the air over the slime pit, both hitting the strand unerringly, severing it instantly.

Once Jaxsen is released from the sticky rope, Saracen fires 2 arrows up into the overhead canopy. The first one bounces off of the logs stretched across the pit and ricochets backwards towards the warrior priest. That arrow flops into the pit and soon sinks into the green slime. Seeing this, Storm and Eawad hold their sling fire for the moment. The second arrow tears through the foliage above, soliciting a light grunting noise from the shadowy, humanoid figure hidden up there. After a few more rustling noises, no more sound is heard coming from above. The monk strains his eyes to see up into the ceiling, but can no longer make out the hidden form. The top portion of the web strand that hit him has also disappeared up into the foliage.

No more webs shoot down from above for the time being. The outdoor trio and their accompaniment soon march back around the corner carrying a bundle of small tree trunks tied together with vines. They flop the makeshift bridge across the span of the slime pit, allowing precarious passage across the obstacle.

Actions?

Anyone crossing the bridge will need to make an easy Dex roll to succeed. [2d6] Failure will result in falling into the slime unless prior precautions were made.

Jaxsen Reiter

Seeing that the others are planning to come across the slime pit, Jax realizes that he needs to make sure this side is secure. He moves to the center of the floor on this side, halberd ready, watching the wall and the ceiling for any other attackers. He motions them across quickly.

"I don't see anything right now. Be quick!"

Jax guards the crossing, and pointing out that the edge of the wall is where he saw the spider legs.

Avaala the Grey

As the makeshift gangplank goes into place, Avaala steps forward. Whoever seems to be going across first is handed one end of a rope.

"Here, take this end with you. If anyone slips and falls into the slime, they'll need help getting back out."

As the first few members of the party cross, Avaala takes a moment to wipe off the last of the residue from his staff with a rag torn from his cloak.
