bah weep granah weep nini bong!

#1 Post by lunchboxx »

A normal 'Hello' sounded boring, so I went with the universal greeting instead.

Hiya guys, name is lunchboxx. I was redirected to this here forum from Dragonsfoot by a guy named rredmond, hoping to find some 1e AD&D PBP action.

I'm really new to AD&D, especially 1e. Back when my dad served in the navy around the 80's to very early 90's, he would play AD&D with some of his shipmates when he served on the USS George Washington (CVN-73). over the years he would try to get me to have a interest in role playing games, but I was a mindless little kid who obsessed over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Power Rangers.

When my dad died back on 2004 due to pancriatic cancer, I pretty much inherited all of his game books. Including ALOT of White Wolf's World of Darkness series of books, and the core set of 1e AD&D books.

It wasn't until the past few years did I get a interest in role playing games, I'm sure my dad is pretty proud of me following in his hobby.

Anywho, the 1e books I own are the Players Hand Book, Dungeon Masters Guide, Monster Manual I & II, Fiend Folio and finally TWO versions of Deities & DemiGods. one of the versions has some copywrited novel stuff like Cthulu and Nehwon, while the other removed that stuff.

So anyways, I'm hoping to join a 1e game on here soon, and I look forward to talking to you all, and potentually make some friends.
Books owned: AD&D 1e PHB, DMG, MM 1&2, FF, D&DG.

Powerful introduction boxx. I always enjoy hearing folks history with the game, yours is no exception.

You certainly have all the books you need to play and run a 1E AD&D game. And the great thing about play by post is that you can take your time learning and relearning the game. Posting two or three times a week offers a lot more time to get acquainted with the rules.
And you'll find the group of folks here real patient and helpful. I always refer folks to these boards because of how cool folks here are. Everyone will jump in to help you and find you a game.
I'm happy you are here and welcome to the boards!
--Ron--
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Ron strikes again. I have him to thank for drawing me to this website as well ( see my, comparatively lame, introduction post, here).

Welcome, lunchboxx, I think you'll end up liking it here. In all honesty, I actually prefer the play-by-post method of gaming over gaming in-person because this format allows you time to really think about how you want to respond, and the ability to ask questions or look up rules before posting. The other really cool thing I've enjoyed is the differing backgrounds and playing styles of the various players. I grew up playing pure hack-and-slash with little-to-no actual roleplaying. There are so many great players on this board that I feel their influence has improved my gaming ability tremendously.

Alethan will chime in soon and share with you some great links for new players, but in the meantime, spend some time (re)familiarizing yourself with the basic rules of the game you're interested in playing (e.g. the rulebooks you have are for AD&D 1E) and keep your eyes open for new games forming or openings in existing games.

Good luck, and have fun!

Hail and well met, lunchboxx!

As Ron and Dave stated, powerful intro indeed. Hope you'll like it around here as much as we do and get to enjoying some old school rpg action soon. Once you get your feet wet, you'll realize how rad the PbP format can be. It's great for role-play and roll-play both! :)

I feel this is an appropriate response, given the thread title. ;)

If you're interested in playing, you should definitely check out this thread: So you want to play in a game on The Unseen Servant?
