Good v Evil - The Ultimate Sandbox [LFP]

#1 Post by Bigtaff »

Ok so I will try and bullet point most of the important stuff to make it easier to read.

The base of this game will be 1st ed AD&D.
That being said I will consider "sprinkles" from other similar games.
What do I mean? Well if there is a class/ability/feat etc from a similar game (e.g. Pathfinder) I will consider it before saying no ;)
Players will start solo and have their own board so they won't know who is a PC or an NPC, although after a while you will probably work it out.
I would expect one post every 24 hours.
I will roll three versions of your character stats for you, you can pick the one that appeals most and raise one stat to 13.
Class requisites are in place (e.g. 17 cha for paladins)
Players will roll for their to hit and saving throws.

All alignments will be allowed
Monster races (mostly humanoid) will be allowed per DM approval.

As players come on board I will jump into the character creation process since it will be very fluid

Any questions, fire away.

I'm intrigued, however I am happy sticking to the basic 1st edition races and classes & if you allow UA I'll use that.

Color my cheeks rosy red, shine my shoes with motor oil and call me interested!

I'm curious though about your monster races addition, what kind of world are we talking about here? besides it being a sandbox of course.

Is good and evil a black and white concept? Or will you see a goblin walking around with a priest to take out a ghoul in a cemetery? So alignment is not so much a racial modifier but a choice through actions?

To start with things will be along alignment lines, but as the campaign develops things will switch up quite a bit

OK I got excited about launching this game and didn't put the background out there, so here goes.

The campaign is set in the world of Mystara and the more specifically the The Kingdom of Karameikos.
The country is mostly untamed wilderness with the civilised areas through the center and border areas.
King Stefan Karameikos has made a startling declaration. He is opening up the north and eastern portion of the kingdom to those who would wish to claim land for the pledge of fealty to the crown.
This has started a power grab by several of the more prominent groups in the Kingdom.
The noble families of Vorloi, Marilienev, Dmitrov are making moves to expand their territory and influence.
The Black Eagle Barony is going to stir up as much trouble as it can.
The major thieves guilds are sending representatives to set up operations.
Adventurers are rushing to the area to seek their fortune and possibly noble titles and land.
Even poor folk are making their way to the new frontier for a new and hopefully better life.

In the hills and mountains of the newly opened territory the current occupants sit and wait.
Goblins, orcs and worse will fight tooth and nail for every mile of their land.

Monkey ghost, the list of playable humanoids are as follows, but this is open to change as the campaign progresses and other opportunities arise.

Kobolds
Goblins
Hobgoblins
Orcs
Gnolls
and trying minotaur.

There will be stat requirements for some of the races. Orcs need a strength of 12. Minotaurs a minimum strength and constitution of 15.

All of that sounds fun!

I've already got plans, schemes, and machinations for things and do-hickeys turning the gears of my brain!

So the base system is AD&D with sprinkles here and there right? In regards to the humanoid monster races, have you thought of any classes or traits you already want to put in the game?

Besides the Orc and Minotaur attribute req's you already mentioned...

Are the races limited in anyway? For example Goblin rogue/thief is good but not a cleric? Do they have to be a set alignment? Like an Orc can only be chaotic evil?

Just curious on how hashed out it is.

It very fluid right now.
I have supplements from other systems for classes such as Goblin battle rager/ barbarian.
Goblin rogue would be fine, a cleric would be a witch doctor.
If you want a lawful good orc who has been cast out from his tribe, im willing to let that fly, I think it would be an interesting take.
I'll post a couple of the classes i've got tucked away for the humanoids

I almost mentioned if you went with AD&D 2e you could use the complete humanoids handbook supplement for further ideas. But I won't go there ;)

Ah I will check that as well.
Here is a sample of some of the stuff im finding from my vault of treasures

Spellbinder for generic races
Gnolls are available as monster race
Have the supplements for this "Monster Codex provided a fast and easy way to add the abilities of the core heroic classes to monsters, which is great when what you need is a monster with druid or rogue abilities, but that still leaves no quick way to create monstrous alchemists, antipaladins, oracles, samurai, and warpriests"
Hobgoblin - Rhakhan (Infantry),Shagha (Calvary), or the mighty Agaken (Sorcerer)

OK complete book of humanoids is in play as well

This supplement spread its net wide when giving rules for new races. Fully 30 races are detailed, including such classics as the aarakocra, bugbear, bullywug, centaur, gnoll, goblin, hobgoblin, kobold, lizard man, minotaur, ogre, ogre mage, orc (including the triumphant return of the half-orc to 2e), and the satyr. More esoteric races were also included, such as giant-kin, half-ogres, pixies, saurials of many types, swanmays, and wemics.

I'll be getting private forums as part of the campaign set up.
The idea is so you can communicate with me and not have the others see what is going on, since I will have people start in areas in line with their character choice and you may be in direct opposition with each other.
There will be an OOC forum and I'm thinking a broad recent events and rumors forum that everyone will have access to.

Just double checking you know how to get a forum created for a game by sending ToniXX a PM right Bigtaff? For the private ones he'll ask for player names I am sure & sometimes a forum gets setup fast sometimes it takes a little longer. Depends on how busy ToniXX is in RL. Just as a fyi. ;)

Sounds intriguing. Would were-creatures be included? No biggie if they're not. Anyway, count me in.
