Wes

Wes considers trying to ensnare the escaping man again but realizes it would serve little purpose since he's probably beyond the reach of any vengeance Wes can mete out...at least for the moment.

Wes decides to sit for a moment and wait for Chauncey to finish his search, since he has no idea where any of the mage's companion's might be. Hopefully they'll be safer here together until they return. "You won't find anything Chauncey," he calls out "We searched this place pretty thoroughly when we passed through."

Alordan notices finally that the man he is struggling with is more than meets the eye. He hears lightfinger's suggestion but worries about leaving the man completely on his own. Alordan recalls his times at sea and those times where he, indeed, had to swim for his life. He starts to relax his grip slightly to give the appearance that he is weakening and allows the man to head to the far shore - his arms still around him and now keenly aware of the sword at his hip...

Seeking Out The Village People
Rumble In The Jungle: Round 15
Godsday, 2nd of Goodmonth
Late Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Buggy

The halfling thief wiggles even further towards the end of the tiny trees to get them hanging as low as possible over the water to help his floundering friend. He shouts out a warning, encouraging Alordan to save himself. Just when he is sure that his rescue attempt will be a success, Alordan and the sailor veer sharply for the muddy bank on the other side of the river. The sailor swims with some noticeable skill, even with the ranger still slumped over his back, and it takes the pair little time to get to the shore. They start to climb up the thick muddy bank, attempting to use overhanging branches to pull themselves up out of the water. "Well, thanks for not murdering me, I guess. What do we do now? Did you really come over here to talk?" Lightfinger can still see the two men from his position in the trees, but he cant hear what they are saying.

Further up river, Luther and Monocar decide that it is time to get off of the shaky raft and make a jump for it. The ranger tries to time his jump perfectly, but as soon as he is about to leap, Monocar barrels off of his end of the raft and makes it easily to the bank. The twisting of the raft causes Luther's jump to fall short and he splashes directly into the water. He starts drifting downstream, grasping for trees or anything else that will help him keep his head above the surface. Neither man can see their former target, (4) but maybe Lightfinger's tree rescue attempt will still come into play? (a normal Dex check will get you safely up the tree lined bank)

Chauncey digs through the dead sailors stuff (2) as Wes watches the last man chop his way out of his spell on the other bank. The man gets himself free, looks back at the druid, and starts laughing. He waves nonchalantly before disappearing into the thick underbrush of the jungle. Chauncey finds out quickly that these men were not some rag-tag band of motley sailors. The dead man has a few things of interest on him. The high quality leather armor the man wears appears to be tailor fit. His longsword looks normal enough, but the sheathed dagger at his side is finely crafted and a beauty to behold. Even for the mage who has no real interest in such things. The man wears 2 unremarkable gold rings on his hands and another small gold hoop in one ear. He also has a small coin purse inside of his tunic that jingles sweetly when the mage shakes it.

"Hmmmm." says Chauncey to himself. He'd perhaps unrealistically hoped to find a map or a scrawled note from an evil mastermind in the man's pockets. Perhaps he'd read too many mystery scrolls in his youth. He has no interest in "looting" a dead man - especially one that died needlessly due to a perfectly good plan gone awry. He should have just been sleeping now. Ah well.

Chauncey does open the money pouch to see if the coins within hold any clue as to these mercenaries origins, for they are clearly hired mercenaries of moderate skill.
Was there another dead sailor on shore? This is it, right?

You checked #2.
3 is dead and secured to some trees at the edge of the riverbank.
1 is also dead, still trapped in the webs. He is also tangled up in the foliage at the rivers edge.

Monocar

Sees Luthar struggling and snaps into action. He looks for a sturdy vine or branch to hold out to Luthar, otherwise he will encourage the ranger to swim with the current and run downstream. The big man has an idea...

Alordan pulls himself out of the water sword still in hand - and keeping a sharp eye on the man's sword still in it's scabbard. "I'm not here to kill anyone. I am here trying to help the town and it's people carve out a life here - and maybe one for me, as well. What are you up to out here in the middle of nowhere - it hasn't been good for the villagers as I understand it. Who is this captain of yours and what are you boys after?"

Hey, The Thief perks up his attention at Alordan and the pirate, Hey! Are you guys... Talking?? What, you try to kill one another, try to drown each other, now you're best friends? What am I missing here?

At just that moment, Luther goes bobbing by, struggling against the current, mere feet away from Arte's position. The Hobbit sputters and does a double-take. Wha...? Loomis?? You're too late to help Alordan, he and his new "pal" are over there. Oh... You're not trying to help Alordan, are you? Reach! Grab the saplings! He intends to further encourage the large Ranger, but the obvious gets in the way, so he makes his own way back to solid land, calling out to the rest of the party. Ah, would someone care to fish our Bear-Man from the river?

Monocar watches as the struggling Luther drifts away in the current. But, he has a plan! He races down the trail after him until he spots Lightfinger dangling from some riverbank saplings. He badly wants to tie and toss the little thief, but resorts to simply helping him pull the soaked ranger from the water instead. It takes some effort, but the three of them eventually get themselves off the bank and safely back to the trail. They look across the river to see Alordan and his new friend crawling up the steep mucky bank to get to the flat jungle beyond. They seem to be carrying on a conversation, but the noise of the rushing river masks their words from this distance.

"Are you guys some kind of goon squad for this town you speak of? Do you make a habit of attacking any strangers you find out here? I don't even know where this town is, but if this is the welcome we will receive there, I'm glad we didn't look for it."

"I don't know what happened to the village either! We were just cleaning up the remains of the burnt huts because Bing told us we could use the clearing as a home base. We aren't part of his crew, we are just hired hands, like most of the other men he brought here on the last boat. We weren't affiliated with his group of cut-throat pirates, we just follow the guy with the most gold. And Bing seems to have plenty to spare!"

The man never takes his eye off of Alordans sword hand as he talks. He looks a bit concerned for the others that he was with, peering up river occasionally to see if any of them are still alive.

"So now what do we do? Were the others all killed?

Chauncey and Wes leave the clearing to go and seek out the others before any more trouble arises. They find the next dead sailor tied up in the foliage on the riverbank. Just past that they spot the wizards handy work. The third dead sailor is still half wrapped up in Chauncey's sticky strands and stuck to the raft. The entire mess is tangled up into some tree roots and thicket growing from the muddy bank. The frail mage and the nearly dead druid definitely lack the strength to pull either of those men up to the trail by themselves.

Luther

The soggy ranger coughs, hacks, and gasps for breath. Thanks. New rule, Monocar: Wait to see what's happening _before_ you act. Otherwise, you get shitshows like this.

Now, let's get back to the clearing and see who else survived.

Monocar

Grins. "You needed a good bath anyway. I bet your butt was getting itchy by now. Got any leeches? If not I might take a dip too..." The big young moves forward, tromping a path for Luthar and presumably LF later that a mule could pass through. "Hate that other guy got away, but I really did think that Chauncy was going to turn you into a Bolly Wog or something else... unnatural... I just couldn't live with myself if I let that happen to a friend of mine. I suppose I owe him an apology. He's a good lesbian. Had me completely fooled. What do you think they were doing here anyway? Looked like someone had whipped out the place and burned it down to me. Why would anyone do such a thing? I know there have to be answers out here, but you know what? I sometimes worry what our problem is, is that we don't know what the right question is... you know what I mean? Like imagine we are all in a box, but to us, it is just dark because we don't know we are in a box... All we have to do is open the box but instead, we keep asking why it is taking so long for the sun to come up. Oh, hi Chauncy! Sorry about earlier... I thought you were going to turn Luthar into one of those Billy Wickets things with the funny legs. Hi, Wes. Anyway, Chauncy, sorry I didn't trust you more... You're one good lesbian. Acting is really your thing... wait..." He looks over at Wes and rushes over, skidding to a stop and hugging him. "WES! Where have you been?! Where are the others?! We were looking for you, but we have to deal with the bitchy water women of beach town... then we had to go halfway back before we came back here but through the trees to right here... then there were pirates... then Chauncy did the finger wiggle... and then they attacked.. but I wanted to protect Chauncy cause... well... look at him! Then he did the pointy thing my drill instructor back home used to before he said JEAMARA! CUT THAT IN HALF! So I cut it in half... the pirate... but then everyone stops and starts doing the talky-talky thing again... I don't know why... and I thought Chauncy was going to torture him to death or something but instead did the finger wiggle again... but this time at Luthar... he got all hard up and I was afraid Chauncy might turn him into a horny toad or something so I knocked him on the boat to get the pirate that fell in the river and next thing I know... Luthar is cured! Turns out a boat ride fixed the magic... Maybe I am magicy too! Hey! Chauncy! Maybe I can do magic too! Anyway... where was I? Oh, yeah! The boat didn't work well... it went all spiny and we couldn't catch he pirate that was going the wrong way and we wound up in the mud over yonder where Luthar took a bath to cure a case of itchy butt and now we are here and I found you and you know what I know. Hey... has anyone seen Alderon and the little guy?

That being said he looks like a puppy waiting on a treat.

"Mmmm. Thank you, Wesley..." replies Chauncey, frowning, lost in thought. He looks around at his "good work." He seems more irritated than anything. Everything happened so fast and nothing went to plan. The ingenious plan he had in his head. Perhaps, in future, they should stick to plans that are shared verbally, he thinks. No notion of fault ever enters his mind, of course.

Before they move on, he checks over the non-web-wrapped dead sailor for any more items or clues, though clues is all he's really interested in - he won't take any money or valuables. He suspects the smart, dare he say, omnipotently insightful, one that got away was likely the leader and therefore carried anything truly useful.
I'm not sure Chauncey got far enough down river to hear Monocar's speech yet? But when he does, he will stare, blinkingly dumbfounded, nearly forgetting why he was mad a the big brute in the first place.

Alordan "I don't know what happened to them - i hope they aren't. Everyone is pretty twitchy out here as this island does everything it can to kill you. Stinging swarms of bugs, giant beetles with acid that will met your body, and giant sea trolls that can bite you in two with out much effort. In fact, we lost a friend the other day to that. It was...gruesome. So everyone's on edge in trying to do the right thing. So what's your deal here with this captain - what's the cargo? You are no novice peasant, you can use that sword no doubt. Where you from?"

Lightfinger stares.

He waits politely during Monocar's speech. And waits. Then waits some more. Yes, ahem, of course. Nice work, by the way, hauling our big, hairy Bear-Man from the river, I doubt anyone but you could've done it. Ah, Alordan is across the river, chatting up one of the pirates. They tried to kill each other, now they're ready to down a few ales. I mean no offense, but you Humans are a strange lot. He then hurries to collect up his gear.

Seeking Out The Village People
Godsday, 2nd of Goodmonth
Late Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Buggy

Lightfinger notices the once battling humans seem to be getting along swimmingly now, so he decides to go about his business. Possessions are gathered and the group reassembles near the dead men still stuck in the water. Monocar explains himself while the others begin to long for the danger of life or death battle again.

Once Chauncey can take no more, he peeks into the pilfered pouch of the first man to search its contents. (sorry chub, I totally missed that in your last post) He finds 57 small gold coins and 2 tiny red gems. There is also a short, slender brass tube with a hole in one end of the cylinder and a thin slit on the opposite end.

Meanwhile, on the far side of the river, the unlikely friends continue to get better acquainted. The man looks around nervously and just shakes his head when Alordan speaks of his past turmoils here. "Jeeeez! Sounds horrible! Bing never mentioned any of those dangers........of course. I am really starting to regret my decision to come here now. From what I heard, they are smuggling some kinda black lotus plants or some other herb, but I'm not into any of that mind altering stuff. Heck, I figure reality is weird enough as it is!"

"I'm from Westkeep, originally, but I've been all over the place. The others were guys I met during my travels."
He risks another look up river, but his face shows that he doesn't see what he was searching for. "So, you aren't really striking me as a horrible person. Why did you attack us exactly?" The man seems very intent on keeping an eye out for any of his friends. (Please make a normal Wisdom roll with your next post, rav)

Wes looks to the top of the tree line, estimating it will only be a few more hours before he will have to spend yet another miserable night outside in this awful place. He is not sure his body will survive another night of exposure. He picks at the larvae sacks starting to fester inside of his already infected, bug bitten flesh.
