I think we should continue on the current path.

Yarthmont 11, AC 1000
Hex 27.22
Subhex 0604
The adventurers rise in the morning. It's cloudy, but rain seems unlikely, and the party packs their gear and begins to head out. Before them their path takes them back into the forest they had passed through earlier the previous day, that seems to have curved around to the south. When they're some one hundred yards distant from the forest they espy a number of small, shadowy forms watching them from the treeline, carrying bows. Their weapons are raised, but it doesn't appear as if they are going to attack directly.

Re: IC I
Nerith scratches his chin and watches the short shadowy figures trying to make out what they are goblins? Halflings? Kobolds? he squints his eyes trying to see if that helps but it doesn't really do much more good. "Anyone got a spyglass? Think they're friendly?" he asks.

No spy glass here, says the cleric grimly as he readies his sling. Maybe they are friendly?

Nerith "Let us hope so. Perhaps if we move closer and indicate we mean no harm they won't attack us?" the outdoorsman suggests.

It's worth a shot, says the cleric, concealing his loaded sling in his pocket.

The party advances cautiously, advancing another thirty feet before there's a shout in the rough, gutteral goblin tongue. Only Nerith understands it: "You there!" it calls out, "Longshanks! Halt where you are and state your business before we fill you full with arrows!" The party can now see there are eight short humanoids amongst the trees, spread out maybe ten feet apart at the edge of the forest.

Nerith softly says to his friends before replying to the goblins "Appears to be goblins fellas. Stop where you are I'll see what i can talk them into. Be ready though." then replies to the goblin in it's native tongue "Ok we're stopping." hands held out in front of him "We're not trying to intrude on your territory. We're merely trying to find a faster route home without taking the long winding roads. If we're on your territory we will leave and if you might tell us where your borders are we can avoid intruding upon them in our travel."

I am for my part at full strength. I say backup and take a more southerly route cross-country as was suggested earlier. The goblins have announced a territory; we'll mark it on the map. If they follow or impede, though, let's waste them all, the suddenly cagey preacher whispers to Drust and just loud enough for Nerith.

Bull rush with sling stones and arrows flying, if it comes to it. These creatures are craven, returns the cleric in a whisper.

Nerith listens to his fellow adventures and replies to the goblin talking to him in goblin "No we wish to not invade your territory. We will leave."thirdkingdom wrote:GoblinGreyWolfVT wrote:Nerith softly says to his friends before replying to the goblins "Appears to be goblins fellas. Now moving back to the others he nods and agrees "Back and southerly direction but if the buggers force a confrontation we need to do something crazy and drive the things away. Though i wonder how many more numbers they may have concealed from us as well."

"Hard to say on their numbers, would be easy to hide a significant number in the forest. I think we should keep moving and fight only if necessary. Once work on a road starts they will most likely have to be dealt with."
