Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
Abstentious: "Pleased t'meetcha, Lothar. I'm Abstentious Device, an' over there's Ambergris, and I'm hopin' Payterish hasn't wandered too far off. But, ah... don't get too excited. I'm all f'r doing civic duty and alerting the constabulary that we've got an invasive species on our hands, but I don't plan on being on the frontlines, 'r ennything. I'm suppossed to be out shopping for a second-hand cuckoo clock."

Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
Little map note - grid is roughly 5ft
Ambergris:
The urchin looks up at you, nodding dutifully. "Name's Guppy, sir," the guttersnipe says in awe, then begins to jog down the street. "I'll see if Mother Miriam ain't gone to bed yet!" He shoves the coin in his pocket before taking off at full speed for the church.
Abstentious and Lothar:
Within the boathouse, you see the men carefully lower the long crate into a waiting rowboat at the center of the room. However, the cargo is so large and takes up so much of the boat that only two men can fit on, one at each end. As the pair prepare to row out the river-facing side of the house, the gathered cultists send 5 men out to check on the outdoor commotion. The push the double doors open, and prepare to viciously defend the others' boat escape with the coffin.
Actions and Initiative, please! The men are outside the double doors, right to the left of the pink X.

What a nice map!
"Yikes! We're in it now! HALP! Murder! HAAAAAAALP!"
Abstentious retains his perch on the window ledge (assuming it's out of immediate reach) where he can ready BOOMCASTER. He fires on the boat, in hopes of sinking it.
Initiative: DEX (17): [1d20+3] = 15+3 = 18
BOOMCASTER: DEX (17)+Prof: [1d20+5] = 14+5 = 19
Damage: [2d6+3] = 5+3 = 8 EDIT: I forgot to add my DEX bonus! Damage is 11. Nope, nevermind.
If anyone tries to climb up after Abstentious, he'll use his bonus action to disengage, climbing higher.

Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
Ambergris
Ambergris initiative [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22
for the second time in a night he finds that a motley crew of thugs seem intent on a bit of mayhem. Having used his mind affecting incantations earlier he has little choices but to melee. Grabbing a fishnet from the boat he run to challenge the group of men and throws the weighted mesh at the closest opponent hoping to restrain and snag him. Ambergris to hit with net at disadvantage [1d20+4] = 5+4 = 9 [1d20+4] = 2+4 = 6, It billows harmlessly in the wind.
Is the man we intended to follow one of the five or is he in the escaping boat?

Lothar
Lothar charges the men, pulling his greatsword with ease. He positions himself with the wall of the boathouse on his left to protect his flank, and attacks the southernmost man.
Initiative: [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6
Attack: [1d20+6] = 7+6 = 13
Damage: [2d6+4] = 7+4 = 11
first time using the US dice roller. Hope I did this right. If not, let me know. and UUGGHHH on initiative

Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
ROUND 1
As the net flaps harmless in the breeze, the madmen sneer, intending to move in on Ambergris--when a sudden blast cracks the night air! A shot from Abstentious' boomcaster splinters the rear of the cultists' boat, and the craft immediately begins to take on water. The other cultists running for the water are shocked at the display of firepower, but make it into their own crafts safely. The cultists transporting the coffin prepare to float their sacred cargo, or swim away with it if necessary.
Taking shrewd advantage of the chaos created by the goblin boomcaster, Lothar leaps to action! When faced with the first ruddy-faced cultist, a sturdy-looking middle-aged bruiser, Lothar cuts him down in one swipe of his greatsword. The others, spurred on by some unholy determination, rush the barbarian, pummeling him with meaty fists but doing only minimal damage--one cultists boxes Lothar behind the ear. As blood trickles down the side of his neck, Lothar knows he's been cut (Lothar -1hp)

Lothar
Lothar laughs at the boxer who actually made him bleed. He shouts, You men are no match for my sword. Prepare to die, or run away! Either way, I shall have my victory!
He then swipes at the nearest cultist with his greatsword, and a grunt. He sees it strike true and smiles.

Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
Abstentious takes a moment to appreciate the splintering of wood and gurgling of water as the boat sinks... and to snarl and spit when he sees the casket stay afloat.
Shouldering his BOOMCASTER, he takes aim on the casket, hoping to punch a hole in it and make it take on water, too.
BOOMCASTER: [1d20+5] = 10+5 = 15 Damage: [2d6+3] = 10+3 = 13

ROUND 2
After Lothar's blade strikes down another raving cultist, the remaining trio turn heel and run back towards the boathouse.
With the second crack of Abstentious' boomcaster, the red casket cracks, but does not shatter. A faint crimson glow emanates from the splintered wooden wound, and all cultists stare agape at its light as it begins to sink into the murky river.
Down the street, Guppy the urchin is hollering for the priest at the Chapel of Solemnas, and will likely return soon with help.

Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
The surviving trio of outside cultists are fleeing inside, the others are boarding/launching rowboats. The coffin artifact is torn open and glowing, on a sinking rowboat.
Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
Lothar
Lothar doesn't take kindly to cowardice, especially when those who started this whole thing decide to run away. He attempts to catch up with any of the stragglers and swipes his greatsword in a huge arc to cut him down. "You are honorless", he says as the blow strikes at the man.

Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
Abstentious Device peers towards the church to see if qualified help is on its way. Then, curiosity getting the better of him, he stows BOOMCASTER and climbs down from his perch. He goes to edge of the dock to get a closer look at the coffin. Can he reach the dinghy?

Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
ROUND 3
Lothar cuts down fleeing cultist at the rear of the group. Frenzied, his fellow dock workers reach their goal--the line of barbed harpoons leaning against the boathouse wall. The turn and jab at the warrior to no success.

Abstentious can see the urchin named Guppy down the street, shouting at the church windows. Leaping down through the cracked window, Abstentious makes it close enough to the sinking coffin to see the source of the ruby glow--skeletal remains of some unknown being, mouth agape in a terrifying shriek, eyes shimmering with harsh red light. The odd symbols adorn the inside of the casket, as well as the figure's skull.
It's hard to tell if it's the movement of the river waves or the coffin itself, but the skeleton almost seems to be moving...

Lothar
Lothar really starts to feel the bloodlust growing as he strikes another down. While he was striking at the one, the others attempted to stab him with makeshift whaling devices. He manages to deftly avoid the untrained men while preparing to swing at the next one. He pulls his greatsword in a wide sweeping arc attempting to disembowel the cultist nearest to him.

Re: Part 1: Adrift on the River of Madness
Abstentious swings BOOMCASTER around and lines up a close-range shot at the glowing skeleton.
(any chance of claiming advantage for a shot at a prone figure?)
BOOMCASTER: [1d20+5] = 5+5 = 10 Damage: [2d6+3] = 11+3 = 14
BOOMCASTER: [1d20+5] = 7+5 = 12 Damage: [2d6+3] = 8+3 = 11
Abstentious will then use a bonus action to disengage, withdrawing into the docks shadows in order to reload next round.
