Saracen ponders the situation. Come around from their behind I think, stay in the darker areas of the sea so that we are not as easily spotted. the half-orc covers any metal he has that might catch and reflect the light with his cloak.

Only one light lit he whispers to Joe and Avaala, that bodes well. How does one usually board these things from the surface of the ocean? Is there a ladder perhaps?

Avaala the Grey

"Well," says Avaala."I spent part of my youth in shore towns, but I never actually worked on a ship." His voice lilts up a bit as he continues, "But I do know that when a ship is just sitting, they have usually dropped their anchor. We could probably climb up the anchor chain without too much trouble."

The Mystery Of The Green Flash
Godsday, The 2nd of Goodmonth
Night, Cloudy, Humid, Buggy

Fisherman Joe rows hard around the back side of the ship, staying a safe distance away as he does so, trying to be as quiet as possible. He holds his index finger to his lips once they get close enough to look over their options.

The light source is coming from a hooded lantern that sits near the bow of the ship which is pointing towards the shore, about 200 feet away. A lone figure can be spotted next to the light, unmoving and apparently staring towards the beach. A thick cargo net is slung half way over the starboard side of the ship and 2 thick anchor ropes are strung tightly off of the stern that stretch into the calm sea.

The night is dark and overcast, making it hard to see any other details from this distance.

Avaala the Grey

Avaala whispers to Saracen, "I'll leave it to your better judgement, but I think I could climb the net easier than the anchor rope."
Looking up at the deck, he adds, still very quietly, "And how do we want to do this? You want to go first and secure an area? Or have me go first, because.... well, I can't think of a good reason to go first." He finishes with a grin.

Saracen nods at the wizard.

I can cast a spell of silence upon my flail, and we can climb aboard without making any noise! If there is danger I will wave, if it’s safe to come aboard I will gesture to come, if we need to stop or wait I will hold up my hand palm up, if I need you to cast your sleep magic I will wiggle my fingers. Once on board I will leave the flail in the middle of the ship so that it will incompass the front of the boat and the sailor on watch. Yes?

Before he casts his spell he gets Joes assurance that he will wait for the pair, and then look carefully into the crows nest and across the deck once more to see if there is any other sailors present. If there are none he can see and Avaala agrees, the half-orc will gather the wizards rope and tie it to his waist, handing the rest to the sailor and the magic-user, whisper his spell and then climb up the netting.

Joe gets the little boat pulled up to the larger ship, banging into it hard and causing a loud audible thud. His eyes grow wide in the darkness as he holds his breath, hoping that nobody heard it.

Saracen looks around and doesn't see any other movement at the rails. He looks up to the crows nest, but can't tell if it is occupied from an angle almost directly below it. Once he whispers out a plan, getting Joes assurance that he won't leave them there, he casts a spell of silence on his flail. He stretches up for the cargonet that is hanging off the side of the ship just out of his reach.

Normal DEX check to jump up to the net, please.

No more verbal communication for a bit either, please. :D

The heavily armed holy warrior jumps up for the cargo net in full armor, while still carrying most of his gear. It doesn't really work out the best for him.

He misses grabbing onto the thing by a few inches and comes crashing back down into the smaller boat. The noise he makes should be easily heard over the soft lapping of the water if it wasn't for the crafty use of the silence spell just moments ago.

Fisherman Joe winces and covers his mouth instinctively, but the loud crashing noise does not ring out through the magical silence, clearly saving the moment, for now.

Would you care to try again? Don't fail by a lot.

well we are here now. If he dies he dies. He’s got the rope around him if he falls in.

Saracen dusts himself off and grabs at the rope cargo net once again.

Saracen looks a bit embarrassed by his initial jump, so he composes himself and tries it again. This time his aim is true and he grabs at the thick cargo net with both hands.

Again he suddenly drops back down into the smaller boat with an unheard thud. But this time, the net is still in his hand. He looks around confused until he notices a few other things falling into the small boat from above. Plates and cups start dropping from the net and hitting him in the head. He also notices that the net has some metal hooks and other strips of metal tied to it that would most certainly be clanging together and making a raucous noise if it were not for the convenient spell that keeps the whole area silent.

With the net now fully deployed and hanging down tight against the ship, it becomes apparent that this audible alarm system was set up intentionally as a warning that someone is trying to board the vessel. But apparently, that doesn't work to well if there is an active silence spell already cast in the area.

A hard STR check will get you up the net and onto the deck. Well done on the pre-casting there. That might have saved your bacon. :D

Avaala the Grey

Avaala looks at all of the noisy, would-have-been-clanging junk sitting in their little boat. As the full meaning of what happened dawns on him, he almost laughs. As Saracen climbs up the side of the boat, Avaala carefully listens for the water lapping against the side of the small fishing boat, so he knows when Saracen's spell has passed out of range.

Once up over the rail and standing firmly on the deck, the silent half-orc takes a look around. Avaala notices that once Saracen is over the rail and out of sight, about 15 feet away, he can hear the normal noises of water sloshing against the side of the boats again. Joe excitedly starts collecting up the silverware and non broken cups and plates, storing them near the back of his rowboat.

The larger sloop is about 20 feet wide and over 3 times that long. There is an 8 foot high raised forecastle at the stern of the vessel where the wheel that operates the rudder is located. Two stairways lead up to that raised section that straddle each side of the ship. Next to those stairways are 2 normal wooden doors that must lead to private quarters underneath. Both of the doors seem to have a feint light burning from behind them that shows through the cracks at the bottom. Nothing else is seen at the back of the ship.

A wooden latticework covering spreads across a large lower hold that takes up a 10 x 10 area in the center of the ships deck, underneath the main mast arm. The hold appears to be mostly empty at the moment and no light is seen coming up from below.

There is a lone figure standing at the rail near the bow, only 20 feet away from Saracen.(x) The figure seems to be humming softly as it stares out over the beach and the jungle beyond it. There is a hooded lantern sitting on the rail next to the lone figure.

The half-off moves over and motions for Avaala to climb aboard, putting his fingers to his lips as he does so. He will place the flail upon the floor (trying to get as much of the 15’ radius to cover the net and the humans climb aboard as he can safely) and hold onto the rope still tied to his waist, in case the wizard needs pulling aboard. He will keep a look out at the sailor at the bow of the ship, and anyone that might be upon the castle at the back of the vessel.

Avaala the Grey

Puffing his cheeks out, Avaala shrugs and reaches for the net. His hands grab tightly and he starts climbing, remembering not to look down or think about it too much. "Just climb," he thinks. Near the top of the net, his fears almost come true as one foot slips off the wet rope, but the mage manages to hang on and pull himself over the rail.

Avaala has a hard time seeing things on the deck in the darkness, but is eventually able to make out the same shadowy shapes of the mast, wheel, and cargo hold. He also sees the guard with the lantern at the front of the ship.

One noticeable difference on this ship compared to the one they arrived on is the cleanliness. The deck boards here are sticky and spotted with black resin that smells of burnt rubber. The smell reminds the men of the black trees that the loggers were cutting down.

The silence around the pair is somewhat weird and hard to get accustomed to, but so far, it appears that they haven't been found out.

Saracen points to Avaala and then to the steps leading up to the wheel upon the castle, and mimes popping his head up over his arms held vertically at head height. He then motions the wiggling of his fingers.

Hoping the magic-used understands his message he moves further along the deck carefully, flail in hand, taking the zone of silence towards the front of the ship and the guard. As soon as it’s clear the man has lost his hearing the half-orc will charge the sailor and attack him with the flail to subdue.

[1d20+2] = 15+2 = 17 : [1d6+4] = 2+4 = 6 : [2d4+3] = 7+3 = 10 not including the +2 to charge or possibly the attack from behind.

Avaala the Grey

Avaala nods, only fairly certain that he got the message right. He moves quickly to the 'castle deck, in the center of the foreward rail in front of the wheel and stands ready to enspell anyone who comes up from below. Which spell depends on how many come up.
