Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!

Nimh

Nimh will examine the pedestal for any clues to what the glove is (writing, pictures etc.).

[Piper]

Kohrek will replace the cover on the remains, leaving the odd glove untouched.

[drpete]

Nimh notes that the pedestal is carved with leaves and nature decorations. She sees the outline of a small panel or lid on the top of the pedestal, in the area which had been covered by the velvet box.

[Rex]

Nimh

Nimh will use her camp knife to try and pry it open.

[drpete]

She pries it open, and finds a small compartment. It is empty except for a small lever.

[Rex]

Nimh

"Hey everyone, check under the boxes for a compartment, mine hides a lever."

[Piper]

Kohrek grunts assent, then checks for a compartment. If he finds one, he'll open it to check for a lever.

Kohrek finds a similar small door under his box. Opening the compartment, he finds a similar lever.

Theglid will also check for a lever in his pedestal.

Perhaps we should take one of the gloves as we leave, so that we can have it examined back in town...

Kohrek uncovers the remaining pedestals if no one else does so.

Once they are all uncovered, and assuming 4 pedestals = 4 levers, he suggests turning all 4 simultaneously

Kohrek (the fighter) agrees with Theglid, but doesn't volunteer to take one of the gloves.

[Rex]

"Agreed on pulling the levers simultaneously. Should we try it with the gloves on?"

[drpete]

A quick check reveals that each of the four pedestals has a compartment with a lever in it.

It sounds like there is some thought of pulling levers. I would need a clear statement about who pulls which levers, etc. There are two on the east, and two on the west. We can call them north- and south-east, and north- and south-west if you have particular plans in mind.

"We could try pulling them simultaneously without the gloves on. I will take North West. If nothing happens then we could try with gloves on. Anyone game or have another idea?"

This is really Kohrek's idea, just moving it along.

[Piper]

Kohrek takes the NE lever, and when everyone else the station themselves by lever he’ll countdown from three.

If that yields no results he agrees to try with the daemonic glove on.

Lhainor

Lhainor will continue to stand guard, expecting a secret door to open when a lever is pulled and monsters to rush in...though it's just as likely the lever will do something nasty to Kohrek, trigger a trap, or teleport us somewhere.

Theglid will take the NW lever and wait for the count.

Moony loots Fane's corpse, aND finds that he has the following:

Leather Armor
Torso: Heavy Crossbow
Belt: Dagger(*), Short Sword, Case(30 Quarrels)
Pack: Lock Picks (in S Sack), 7 days Std Rations, 50' Rope, 2 Oil Flasks, Tinderbox(*)

Moony then joins the group on the fourth lever, and every one pulls, producing no visible effect.

Following a brief discussion about wearing the gloves, these are put on and the levers are pulled again. This time, though, a panel in the north end of the east wall slides back, revealing another room to the east!

Lhainor

Lhainor looks into the room beyond the secret door, expecting attacking foes within. What does he see?

[Piper]

The door now open, Kohrek hastily removes the glove and places it back where he got it. Then he joins Lhainor by the newly opened (and no longer secret) door.
