The deal was research on two items OR identify the eight potions. I can identify the gem if you're willing to pay an extra 50gp. The Templars also already told you that it needs to be placed in a jewelry setting to be functional.Zhym wrote:Once we know what the gem is, I can update the proposed allocation with potions and gems. But not until this afternoon at the soonest.
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Ohhhh. That wasn't clear from the phrasing, at least to me.
Sure, let's spend 50 gp to ID the gem. I assume that's okay with everyone?

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Good enough for me...
It is 10gp to reset it in a simple unadorned setting (pick jewelry type), more gp to make it artful. Receiving PC gets to specify.
It will then be a Periapt of Proof against Poison once it can be worn.

The wearer is 30% immune to poison, taken into account before or if a saving throw is allowed from exposure to poison.
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Nice. Would Halfpint be good with the shortsword and the Periapt of Proof Against Poison? Then everyone take a potion?
Earc has no potion preference. If he gets one, that's cool. He'll take last choice.

Heh. So, if we'd gotten the gem identified and set, we could have safely identified the potions ourselves.

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
...or investigated other items.
So, everyone has agreed to the items and you're divvying the potions? I am good to move items onto character sheets?

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
FYI, here are the values, per OSRIC, of the periapt and the potions:
Periapt of Proof Against Poison: 27000
Potion: Extra Healing: 800
Potion: Giant Strength: 900 - 1400 (depends on type of giant)
Potion: ESP: 850
Potion: Diminution: 500
Potion: Flying: 750
Potion: Clairaudience: 400
Potion: Dragon Control (green): 13000
Potion: Animal Control (amphibians and reptiles): 400
Holy socks! Halfpint made out pretty well. I'm okay with that, personally—onlyme took the risk that the gem would turn out to be worth much less, so he gets the benefit of it turning out to be really nice.
I'll do an allocation soonish. The Dragon Control potion might be useful to someone who wants to go back where Earc, Olaf, and company found the green dragons in a previous expedition. Or we could assign that randomly. It's not going to work as a value filler.

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Okay, here's a proposed magic item distribution with all potions except the potion of dragon control (which, as I mentioned above, we need some other way to distribute. My suggestion: give it to Earc to use in a future trip back on the path to the Morlock holes where we found green dragons before).
1406 gp, 32 ep, 6 sp, 7 cp
1812 gp in gems (excluding the large brilliant light green jade, which went to pay Pierpont)
314 gp of stuff to sell (assuming the medical tools are sold at material value)
-50 gp to identify the gem.
Total: 3498.67
Divided 8 ways, that's 437 gp and change each. Did I miss any deductions?
If not, I'll have a go at solving the knapsack problem to distribute gems. If anyone doesn't have a need for gems (e.g., you've got a plan to spend that money right away), please let me know.
- Earc (MU): Ancient spellbook (7,200), 1 box of ink (200), potion of ESP (850) [8250]
- Winnie (MU): 3 other spellbooks (1,500, 3,000, 1,500), scroll (900), 2 boxes of ink (400), potion of flying (750), potion of animal control (reptiles) (400), potion of diminution (500), potion of clairaudience (400) [9350]
- Bianca (Elf): Chainmail +3 (≥10,500), 2 boxes of ink (400) [10,900+]
- Olaf (dwarf): Longsword +3 (7500), potion of giant strength (1000), potion of extra healing (800) [9300]
- Isaachar (cleric): Banded mail +2 (8000); Flail +1 (2500) [10,500]
- Halfpint (hobbit): Shortsword +2 (4000), Periapt of Proof Against Poison (27,000) [31,000!]
- Funil: Shield +3 (7,500), Longsword +1 (2000) [9,500]
- Drunil: Shield +2 (5,000), Bastard sword +1 (2000) [7,500]

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
To be fair, the OSRIC periapt is immunity to poison, while this one is 30% immunity. So, you could call it 9,000xp.
The medical tools would be sold for metal-value; however, they have intrinsic value to Earc as lab equipment for medical research.

Earc would take those tools in lieu of a like amount of coin.Marullus wrote:

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
What's that intrinsic value, approximately, so I can figure the total value of stuff?
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Value to Earc's lab is 100gp.
Resale for used equipment is 50gp, if there's a buyer.
Value to usurer as silver goods is 40gp.

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
We'll call it 50 gp value, then, just like used sword and armor and such.
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Here's a money and gem split:
And as I mentioned before—if anyone has immediate spending plans, I can shift gems to other PCs.
- Earc: 100 gp, 1 sp; medical tools (50), black obsidian (100), 2 deep blue azurites (50 ea.), 3 golden brown tiger eyes (25 ea.), 2 polished opal roundels (10 ea.) [445.10]
- Winnie: 145 gp, 1 sp, 1 cp; deep blue lapis lazuli (100), 3 deep blue azurites (50 ea.), 2 golden brown tiger eyes (25 ea.) [445.11]
- Bianca: 145 gp, 1 sp, 1cp; violet garnet (100), green zircon (75), 2 deep blue azurites (50 ea.), large dull banded red and white sardonyx (25) [445.11]
- Olaf: 128 gp, 1 sp, 1 cp; banded black onyx (100), blue jasper (75), 1 deep blue azurite (50), blue quartz (40), 1 golden brown tiger eye (25), pink rhodochrosite (17), blue quartz (10) [445.11]
- Isaachar: 145 gp, 1 sp, 1 cp; flawed pale blue-green aquamarine (80), cloudy pale blue-green aquamarine (75), large muddy red zircon (50), black obsidian (40), muddy deep blue lapis lazuli (25), 3 polished opal rondels (10 ea.) [445.11]
- Halfpint: 145 gp, 1 sp, 1 cp; cracked black jet (75), cloudy light green jade (75), dull clear rock crystal (50), small blue azurite (45), golden brown tiger eye (25), 2 polished opal rondels (10 ea.), pale blue lapis lazuli (10) [445.11]
- Funil: 436 gp, 16 ep, 1 cp [444.01]
- Drunil: 436 gp, 16 ep, 1 cp [444.01]
And as I mentioned before—if anyone has immediate spending plans, I can shift gems to other PCs.

Thank you Zhym for being talented at loot divisions. These could otherwise be painful and arduous.Zhym wrote:

As you all parse out your portions, you see that the (now-uncursed from Olaf) bastard sword lies off to the side in its sheath with Olaf's things. The "cursed" sword was not considered in dividing the loot.
If anyone wants to request to use it, or objects to it remaining in Olaf's share, speak up IC.Zhym wrote:Ellurian steel bastard sword which glows faintly with its own soft yellow light (Cursed +2 bastard sword)
The cursed sword is unusual. It:
- is far better than a normal weapon (+2 bonus)
- compels its owner to use it as weapon-of-choice
- resists being sheathed until it has drawn blood
- improves the wielder's vision in darkness (ignores -2 in darkness penalties)
- makes the wielder sensitive to sunlight (-1 to hit outdoors during the day)
- feels like it is coursing energy through your whole body (and causes hair loss)
- Is cursed (owner will have to get a Remove Curse to be rid of it)

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Hey. Did Olaf drink the entire Growth Potion? I believe he did, but if not, Winnie would take the backwash-tainted remnants. Yum!
Winnie agrees with the party that the Rod should go to the Church of Moradin at Idmi d'dum. She asks Bianca if there is anything she can tell the Drunil and Funil about it before they leave. Blushing from both shame and pleasure for having received its gift, she offers, It is unnatural for anything to return from the dead, but it is not for us to determine what the dwarfs may do with it. Their gods likely have a different view on these things.
Seeing the cursed bastard sword near Olaf's pile, she smiles. You have the right-shaped head for baldness, should you choose it. She makes no indications that she objects to him keeping it.
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
"Don' mind top of me head goin' bald," grumbles Olaf. "But me beard! Don't be right to got a naked chin!"
What's left of the beard, anyway, after most of it got burned away fighting Scatha.
As far as I know, Olaf drank the whole potion.

OOC: vials of Toll's Growth Tonic will occasionally be available for purchase at Toll's Tower, located on a rock outcropping along the River Gaul just north of Frogmorton Ford. Inquire within for details.
