yes, Ull would. The idea besides survival is that maybe they will go back into the pool, or get scattered where we can take them on one at time.

Ull will retreat back toward the cliff, while maintaining a defensive position.

Day 1, Turn 8 - The Black Pool


Round 3

Party Initiative: [1d6] = 2, Monster Initiative: [1d6] = 4

Segments: Giant Grubs 2nd, Party 4th


The grubs that are fighting Onn and Ull lash out again...

Onn: Giant Grub attack: [1d20] = 14, Damage: [2d4] = 6

Ull: Giant Grub attack: [1d20] = 15, Damage: [2d4] = 6

...and both things manage to latch on to the brothers.

Their trio of mates waddle from the pool's edge eager to join the feeding frenzy, however there is only space along the pipe for one of their number to fight alongside the other two that are already munching on the half-orcs. The on that manages to squeeze through finds itself facing Theket...

...and poor Theket is also bored by a grub.

Meanwhile, yet another grub makes is making its way out of the black pool.


The three brothers fight madly for their lives. Theket slices the grub off him with a mighty swipe of his scimitar. Ull plunges his shortsword on the grub trying to become one with him, the thing shudders, dies and falls off. He then bolts away in a strategy retreat. Onn, feeling the untender caresses of a second grub trying to eat his tripes imitates his brother Ull with a dagger. His attack, strengthened by despair, also dispatched his assailant. He keeps apeing his older brother and likewise dashes away in the direction of the descending pipe. Seeing himself alone and facing a bunch of hostile giant grubs Theket decides following Onn and Ull ain't such a bad idea and gets his legs a-moving too.


Gruumsh verily did smile upon the players and their PCs! You dealt exactly or slightly above the damage needed to slay your grub and I have the HD rolls to prove it . I am assuming Theket doesn't want to be left behind here and also joined the retreat. Everyone is moving in the direction of the shaft which lies one Turn distant at normal walking pace.

Ull feels quite unlucky, despite his killing of the grub. Even when he tries to stay out of trouble, it finds him. He will keep moving, looking out for the edge, while making sure the grubs aren't following.

Does anyone have a potion of healing, or anything like that? Ull is getting close to his gas light coming on.

Onn keps moving, speaking to his brothers: "wees need healin'. Maybe we can find a place to hide out?"

Day 1, Between Turns 8 and 9 - The Shaft


Crossing the tunnel of formerly flickering lights at a brisk pace, Ull, Onn and Theket arrive by the edge of the shaft. No where to go but down now, apparently. The giant grubs were long left behind and there is no sign of them. Either their pursuit is slow, or did not attempt it altogether.

The arrival at the shaft actually comes as a welcomed sight, the trio is wounded and wheezing from the retreat so a nice breather is welcome.

Ull slows to a stop and looks around. He calls out to his two brothers. Listen. Do you see that? Nothing. We lost 'em. Oh, and great slicing. I just wonder how many were left for Pol and Lippet to play with. He sits and rests. I suppose we should look to camp here to rest for a bit. If I am as sore as I feel, I can only imagine how much worse you two are.

I dont think we have time for that, brother, whether we need it or not. Puls, I think them grubs sensed us on the ground. No reason to give em another meal.

Day 1, Turns 10 - The Shaft


After about a quarter of an hour of rest Onn, Theket and Ull hear the unmistakable sound of footsteps approaching. Soon the forms of their brothers Pol and Lipput emerge from the pipe.

The arrived pair sees the trio set up by the shaft, looking somewhat worse for wear than what they remembered.

Ull looks at the two returning brothers and utters, "You can thank us later for sacrificing ourselves to make your return safer. But for now. Best we get going down that rope. Theket, you still got some of those spikes?

Theket nods, rummages in his gear, and holds up three spikes. "Got five here, and eight if you grabbed the one was back with the rope."

He started with four, so has three now.

Ull will hammer in a spike and configure the rope, then. (assuming no one else was begging to do so.)

"You guys look horrible. Way worse than usual. How'd you let a bunch a WORMS do that to ya?" Pol scoffs. "Lipput and I just ran right past 'em, easy as that," he says, leaving out how he protected himself with magic but still about soiled his breeches in the mad scamper to avoid those horrible, slimy creatures. Or how it was all he could do to not squeal like a frightened schoolgirl. Or how he ran so hard out of fear he threw up. Twice.

"Which one of you needs patching up the worst? Onn or Ull? I can't even tell. You both look like road kill." Envision a cat run over by a medieval cart...

Ull looks up and answers. I 'spect its me that is the most beat up. If it were any other one of you, we'd hear you moaning throughout the whole blasted pipe.


Ull is at 9 hp left of 23. Onn is at 13 of 26.

Lipput can't help a quick smile at seeing all of his brothers alive and more-or-less in one piece. He then quickly turns away and rolls his head and neck in a stretch to ensure they didn't see that. He gladly sinks down to the floor; leaning against the wall to take a quick rest for a few moments before the quest for the lens continues....

"We gotta think about when we ARE gonna rest pretty soon. A long one. Takin care of you weaklings and your boo boos all day is wearing me out. Otherwise there's not gonna be any more patching up after this..." Pol walks up in to Ull and stops, facing him. "Hold still a second," he says. After a moment of intense concentration and faint mumblings to the Dark Ones, Pol abruptly head-butts Ull squarely on the bridge of the nose. As always with Pol's "healing" there is intense pain followed by a distinct feeling of overall better health. Although, frankly, this time Ull doesn't feel all THAT much better. After his eyes focus again Pol says" You're welcome..."

Day 1, Turns 10 - The Shaft


Ull hammers in a spike and ties the rope. He launches it to the void and is pleased to feel its other end drop against the ground somewhere down the darkness of the shaft. Whatever is down there, the rope is sufficiently long to get to it.

Onn prepares to go down after his brother. He always thinks he can just run of by himself...
