Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Lightfinger notices others looking.
He feels his performance has been neglected. What could possibly be more interesting? He follows the others' eyes and spots the sinister-looking pair approaching and continues playing possum, all the while ready to bolt away at top speed.

Chauncey, crouching in his trench behind the net, peeking over the mound of sand, checks to make sure he has remembered to remove his pointy hat. He'd hate to spoil everything with an amateur blunder.
Wait... why are there two creatures approaching? he thinks. This does not fit with our carefully laid plans!

Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Back To The Hunt
Sunday, 28th of Reaping
Late Morning, Sunny, Humid, Buggy
Time seems to drag on forever as the group watches the pair of figures slowly making their way up the beach as they approach the ambush site. Another hour passes, maybe two. Saracen may be the only one happy to see the clouds begin to part, allowing the great burning orb to once again expose you all to its intense heat and burning rays. With the mists now gone, the bugs return as well, stinging and biting, making the hot, sticky, sandy, sweaty wait even more miserable for everyone involved.
When the approaching figures get close enough to see better, Lightfinger is somewhat shocked to find that he knows both of them. The lead figure is the lost elf boy, Jack, once again putting his shortbow to good use. He is running ahead of the trailing monster you seek, leading the beast right to you all. Every few hundred feet, the boy turns around and shoots an arrow at the trailing monster, who, in turn, plucks each arrow back out of its rubbery hide, collecting them all into one hand as he follows the boy from the safety of the shallow, lapping shoreline.
Seeing the flabbergasted Lightfinger standing at the waters edge, Jack rushes up closer to him, close enough for the halfling to see him smile and wink as he turns to fire another arrow. Though, this time, the boy reaches back to find that his quiver is empty.
The ten foot sea troll continues lumbering forward slowly through the shallows. Noticing that the boy has stoped firing, the troll waves his handful of spent arrows at the elf before tossing them forward out into the sea, about 20 feet from the shoreline and into the deeper water. Jack looks back at Lightfinger, still a few dozen yards ahead, and shouts cheerfully. "Keep leading him towards you while I go get my arrows!"

Alordan watches the beast lumbering up the beach. He tries to remain patient and still while watching Jack dance around - to allow the trap to spring.
Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Saracen mouthes thanks to the god of blinding light as the clouds part, and he clutches his lens all the tighter. Seeing the annoying elf child leading old Scraggy the half-orc can’t hekp but smile that the nuisance is still alive.
Waiting patiently for the beast to step into spell range and spring the trap the holy champion tenses with anticipation.

Luther
Luther cringes just a bit when he sees Jack leading the beast toward them. You little idjit! definitely got more guts than brains!
He carefully adjusts his position and his grip on the bow, ready to fire if Jack or Littlefinger are in real danger. If he dies, I'll never forgive myself.

Monocar
Happy ending!!!!
Monocar jerks as if he is about to charge to the rescue and stops himself with great effort, remembering his spot in the plan but still pawing at the ground like a beast as he watches the foolish elven boy. He grips the rope in both hands and makes ready to pull with all his might. Gritting his teeth, he watches as events unfold, praying to Phlotus through it all, body tense.
I don't know if I can take seeing him die! I vote a portal to the Fea Wild opens up and accepts him back into the fold! Happy ending!OGRE MAGE wrote:Unfortunately, Inferno has informed me that he is leaving the game.Even though I loved the character concept of Jack, I just can't take on any more former player NPC's right now. So, I thought it might be a fitting way to pay homage by letting you all be involved in the decisions of how his ending plays out.

Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Lightfinger can't believe his eyes.
Jack! He shouts in disbelief, then realizes the Lost Elf Boy has brought the party their quarry, and so begins his own part to play. Oh, no! A Troll! A very large, very ugly water Troll! I must get away before it devours me! He intentionally staggers and flails enough to get the monster's attention, careful to stay out of it's reach.

Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
I have really enjoyed the whole 'Lost Boy' Jack character. If my opinion carries weight, I'd as soon see him taken back to the Fae, like Bluehorse. Can't go killing off Peter Pan.

Avaala
Avaala keeps both a close eye on the troll and a close eye on Rollo, including a hand wrapped fully around his collar. He doesn't want Rollo to scare off the troll or getting himself killed.

The Net
Sunday, 28th of Reaping
Noon, Sunny, Humid, Buggy
Jack seems completely oblivious as to what the huge troll is trying to goad him into doing. The boy starts high-stepping through the shallow water towards his incredibly important arrows, not concerned in the least about entering into the vicious enemy’s domain.
Lightfinger gasps at the boy’s foolish actions and knows he must do everything in his power to convince the troll to eat him instead. He begins his theatrics again, flailing and calling out to the beast as it nears him. The monster looks back and forth from the elf boy to the halfling several times, as if it isn’t sure which one to eat first. He knows he can easily catch the morsel in the sea, so it decides to go for the mouthful on the shore instead.
The green beast lunges towards Lightfinger’s position, moving slowly and awkwardly through the deep sand. When the halfling starts moving up the beach towards the trap, the monster slows even more, looking back and forth between his 2 targets again as if he senses something dangerous.
Eventually letting his stomach make his decision for him, it lumbers after Lightfinger who starts slowly making his way towards the others hiding in the tree line. The beast figures it will be no problem to swim back out to grab the next meal as soon as he catches this one, and Lightfinger does a splendid job of luring the thing closer and closer to the buried net as he feigns his injury.
Rollo struggles against the tight grip of Avaala, sensing great danger in what is coming towards his masters group. Everyone tenses as the monster gets close to the trap, anticipating some degree of success. Lightfinger senses the monster’s trepidation of getting too far away from the water, so he falls down in the sand and starts crawling, hoping to really seal the deal. The monster obliges and steps over the first pulling rope, very near to the edge of the buried trap.

Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Chaucey keeps his head down. Upon finally glimpsing the massive, slimy beast, he is suddenly... slightly worried. He listens for sounds indicating the trap has been sprung and wonders if all the sand on this beach will be enough to Sleep this thing...

Luther
percent[1d100] = 28
Luther's hands tremble despite his training, watching the Elf he's gotten so fond of dancing in the dragon's mouth.
Again, he feels his hair start to stand up as ancient reflexes awaken. His teeth bare as he snarls, silently.
I hope I didn't steal anyone's thunder by taking the plunge.

Saracen waits to see how the net trap works, and once the thing enwraps the troll he begins his spell casting, calling to Pholtus and raising the lense.

Lightfinger sweats.
The Troll has left Jack alone, but is upon him! He staggers, he falls, he tumbles, but mostly he BEGS silently for someone to snare the beast before he becomes breakfast. At the first sign of rope activity he turns on the dash, as fast as his slender legs can scoot him.
LF's thunder has rumbled, great roll!

Nice! Trap the bastard! Based on where the thing is in the net - can we reach it with swords and stuff or are ranged attacks needed for now?

Your choice. Let me narrate what happens with the net this round. Once that post is in, you can all go crazy on the thing. Do keep in mind that splash damage from the acid will apply to anyone close enough to melee though.ravenn4544 wrote:Nice! Trap the bastard!
