Lug wonders what's going on up there.
Not enough to, y'know, go look. But he wonders.

On the rooftop:
The grey tinge and numbness develops rapidly, spreading in seconds up his arm and into his chest as his flesh petrifies into smooth, grey limestone. He has only a moment before his lungs and mouth calcify, perhaps enough for three words before his final shout is cut off, if he makes one. Or if he focuses solely on his task, a chance for a single blow...
Choose one final act: Yell three words, strike a dramatic pose, or get one attack roll.
On the ground below:
You wait, curious, while Rhybek passes over the lip of the roof, his grappling hook and rope still hanging behind. After a minute you hear him bellow to frighten the birds, followed by a frenzied squawking and clucking, then silence.
Date: 10:41am, 18 July 2021
Light: Daylight (outside)
Distance: None
Injuries: Rhybek (Dead), Amistad (minor damage)

Clay wonders.if anyone else will follow Rhybek up to help him. Clarabelle is too much a novice to send to fight on a rooftop.
Re: Expedition: Blackjack/Return to Kobold Tower - 16 July 2
"Hey, Rhybek!" Lug calls out. "How's it going up there?"
"Rhybek?"
"Uh oh."
"Rhybek?"
"Uh oh."
Re: Expedition: Blackjack/Return to Kobold Tower - 16 July 2
Rhybek turns his head towards where the others are down below and shouts, "It's a trap!" before being overcome by the transfiguration into stone...

"Well, crap, that can't be good," says Lug. "Ya think we should climb and see what happened, or just get the heck out of here? He did say it's a trap."

Clay points oit that it couldn't be a trap. Beith would have revealed it to me when I was looking for them. I've travelled with Rhybek before and feel we ought to check on his safety. Clay looks around for another structure they could get on top of safely, thereby spying out the situation.
Oh dear!

The millhouse is adjacent to the pavilion, whose roof is collapsed but the beams are still upright. It would be hard to climb and hurt to fall.
Re: Expedition: Blackjack/Return to Kobold Tower - 16 July 2
"What about that tower?" asks Lug, pointing to the erstwhile kobold tower. "Maybe we could see the roof from in there?"

'Blackjack' Amistad
hears the dwarf shout something about being trapped. trapped on the roof, its a trap, more kobold coming?
Perhaps we should take the internal route after all? He will enter the floor room of the tower and cautiously open the door or trap door for another view of what is inside.

Clay asks the muscled logger for a lift. Clarabelle joins them.

Poking at a cockatrice. This is shaping up to be the most avoidable TPK ever.

Re: Expedition: Blackjack/Return to Kobold Tower - 16 July 2
Inside, the ladder leads up to a small (one-man) trap door which has collapsed inward already, the hole thus exposed and open to the roof. The other is a larger (barn/lumber-size) pair of double doors in the floor above, which is closed. Which are you opening?Spearmint wrote:Perhaps we should take the internal route after all? Amistad.
Well maybe we should climb the ladder one by one into the first room above us then pull open the barn doors from underneath. We don't know that Rhybek is dead only he said "trap" and it went quiet apart from the chicken - lizard. Our duty should be to rescue him.
Ooc: we applaud good character successes, should not the DM get an accolade for sucking us in with the Morlock hybrids. How many saw the cockatrice coming?

Why do you think Fingers left the thing alone the first time around? A chicken-lizard sitting in a bunch of stones looking like it ain't afraid of nothing? Yeah, you leave that the heck alone if you want to live.

What do you do?Spearmint wrote:Well maybe we should climb the ladder one by one into the first room above us then pull open the barn doors from underneath. We don't know that Rhybek is dead only he said "trap" and it went quiet apart from the chicken - lizard. Our duty should be to rescue him.

"He yells 'It's a trap,' so you go into it?" says Lug, rolling his eyes.
"We could probably see what's up there from the tower over there," he says again.

Clay volunteers to go up and check on Rhybek. Get me up to the hatch and I will peek up through.Inside, the ladder leads up to a small (one-man) trap door which has collapsed inward already, the hole thus exposed and open to the roof
As a bit of metagaming, Benefits: "Upon achieving third level, all Druids of Beith move their result on Monster Reaction Table (page 52) one category better (thus, they never get "hostile, attacks" and get "friendly, helpful" on a 2-5)." Add to that that this thing is neutral, Clay can communicate with it. Perhaps he can convince it to allow us to retrieve Rhybek and give us a few feathers to craft a potion. And a golden shell (or ten) to pay for it.

Amistad & Acheadany
give a hands up lift to the badger to push him through the hatchway and stand behind with weapons drawn to charge in afterwards if needed.
