Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
Zoster will indicate to the others (from a safe distance) the location of the pit trap he detected on the previous night.
Please note that the magic I used would not detect other types of spells, so there might be more hidden tricks in this corridor.

Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
You follow the path up to the spot that Zoster indicated (marked with a red x on map). You find no traps along the way.Nuke66 wrote:Mason will lead.

The wall next to the pit is painted to look like a door with a barred window. A hideous creature is gripping the bars with clawed hands. To the north of that a bronze box protrudes from the wall (marked by orange square on map) the painting shows a pair of jackal headed men holding it.

Mason backs up a bit and looks to tie a rope around the box without disturbing it or touching it. If he get the rope secured, he will back up to the entrance once again, and give it a tug.
Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
Nothing happens. The box is sturdy and securely fastened to the wall.Nuke66 wrote:Mason backs up a bit and looks to tie a rope around the box without disturbing it or touching it. If he get the rope secured, he will back up to the entrance once again, and give it a tug.

"Need a pair of stronger arms there?" asks Halbrad.

"Not yet my friend."
Mason returns to the box and begins to inspect it for traps and locks. He is curious how it is 'attached' to the wall, and if there appears to be any doors or drawers on it.

Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
The box is embedded into the wall. The front of the box looks like a lid, hinges at the bottom, push button latch at the top. After a few minutes of careful inspection you find a small hole in the center of the button, just big enough for a needle to poke through.Nuke66 wrote:"Not yet my friend."

Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
"Ah Ha" Mason exclaims. Digging into his belt pouch, he takes out his thief's tools and selects the appropriate one.
Standing with his back to the wall, he reaches over the box and attampts to work the mechanism from the top, allowing the front to fall open without him being in front of it.

Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
Using one of the larger metal wedges in your "tool" kit, you tap the button. The front does not open, rather the bottom of the box flips down on the same pair of hinges, so that it is hanging from the front edge of the box. Inside the box you can see there is a lever that looks like to could be thrown to the left or the right.Nuke66 wrote:"Ah Ha" Mason exclaims. Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
"Well. that is interesting." he says to himself.
He quickly figures that he can pull it without being in the area, but pushing it would require a physical presence. He loops the rope around the lever, tying it tight enough to hopefully prevent it from sliding down the lever and retreats once again to the entrance.
Once the group is present and accounted for, he will slowly pull the lever to the right.

Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
With a tug on the rope the lever is easily thrown. The floor under the box retracts into the wall with lightening speed, revealing a 30 foot deep pit.

Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
Walking back, avoiding the pit, Mason keeps the rope attached and moves to the other side, repeating the pull on the rope.
Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
Xale notes the pit trap and offers a quiet; "Clever thinking there Mason". He will move to closest edge of the pit; with the ever-loyal Malvexa beside him and study the hallway and all of the pictures, writings, stonework, etc. to see if any of it makes any sense to him. Once at the pit edge; he will peer down into it to determine if anything of interest can be seen....

This is good thinking Elsa says.

Re: Into The Tomb of Horrors
The paintings in the area of the pit seem to be of a wizard's workshop. The jackal headed statues painted on the wall appear to be holding the box that protrudes from the wall. On the opposite side of the pit the mural depicts a barred iron cell door. The clawed hands of some foul creature grip the bars of the window. (This is directly to the west of the area that Zoster indicated had a pit trap). Malvexa taps your arm and points to the red tile path that you stand on. It takes a moment for you to see what she's pointing at, but then you can see it. Letters concealed among the tiles create words that stretch from the entrance to the pit and beyond. They read...max_vale wrote:Xale notes the pit trap and offers a quiet; "Clever thinking there Mason". ACERERAK CONGRATULATES YOU ON YOUR POWERS OF OBSERVATION. SO MAKE OF THIS WHATEVER YOU WISH, FOR YOU WILL...
The words continue on the other side of the pit.
